Default T206 team by team checklist?

Posted By: Dustan Hedlin

Hey guys, I'm mostly a lurker on here, but have a question. I'm trying to find all the Cubs in the T206 set so I can go for the team set, and have found the following:

G. Brown
M. Brown
Chance
Evers
Lundgren
Moran
Needham
Pfeffer
Reulbach
Schulte
Tinker

I have 4 of them so far, but want to see if I am missing anyone. I found a checklist of the set with pics of each card, but haven't had the time to run through all the cards. If you know any others off the top of your head, please let me know. Thanks in advance!

go to Baseballreference.com - search 1909 Chicago Cubs
and then check against an alphabetical list of T 206 players

Quick Examples of missing cards would be Steinfelt (the third baseman)
Zimmerman and Jimmy Archer and Jimmy Schekard

Thanks guys. I quit being lazy and scanned through the photo checklist. I found that there are 20 different Cubbies in the set. With a few of them having multiple cards, this should be a fun, attainable challenge. Now I just need to find myself a throwback 1909 Cubs jersey.

***this is not the full list (full list posts above)...i have added some basic notes to several of the cards...just for your knowledge (HOF=hall of famer)

G. Brown- semi-tuff
M.Brown(Portrait)HOF
M.Brown(Black Collar)HOF
M.Brown(Blue Collar)HOF-semi-tuff
Chance (Batting)HOF
Chance(Portrait/Red)HOF
Chance(Portrait/Yellow)HOF
Evers(Portrait)HOF
Evers(Batting/Blue Background)HOF-semi-tuff
Evers(Batting/Yellow Background)HOF
Lundgren- tuff card
Reulbach (arms at side) semi-tuff (there is no portrait version, the other one is pitching)
Tinker(Portrait)HOF
Tinker(Hands On Knees)HOF
Tinker(Bat On Shoulder)HOF
Tinker(Bat Off Shoulder)HOF
Zimmerman-semi-tuff in higher grades, also cool that it is the last card alphabetically in the set.

***also interesting to note, i have heard that harry steinfeldt (3rd base), was probably the best infielder on the team, but was not celebrated as much as T-E-C, who shot to fame with a period song about their double-play prowess...

"Baseball's Sad Lexicon", also known as Tinker to Evers to Chance after its refrain, is a 1910 baseball poem by Franklin Pierce Adams. The poem is presented as a single, rueful, stanza from the point of view of a New York Giants fan seeing the talented Chicago Cubs infield of shortstop Joe Tinker, second baseman Johnny Evers, and first baseman Frank Chance complete a double play.

1 These are the saddest of possible words:
2 "Tinker to Evers to Chance."
3 Trio of bear cubs, and fleeter than birds,
4 Tinker and Evers and Chance.
5 Ruthlessly pricking our gonfalon bubble,
6 Making a Giant hit into a double --
7 Words that are heavy with nothing but trouble:
8 "Tinker to Evers to Chance."

Jason's list left out Moran...

I'm scanning them in a pile for you.

Here's a scan. Try to get a Kling and a Moran early on, they seem a bit tougher than some of the other commons. The rest follow along guide prices; that is my mere opinion, could be wrong about it.

Frank.

And those last 2 Pfeffer cards should be Pfiester cards.

What MVSNYC has is correct, the list above him miscatagorizes some of the poses, and he's corrected that.

very helpful, as I am still new to this quest, with only a Kroh, Chance, Tinker, Overall, and Pfeffer to my credit thus far...thanks for correcting my oversight regarding Moran...

So Wow, Trea.... when are you gonna do that to T207??? and T205??? Hint!!!

And I guess I should have laid those T206 Cubbies out starting at the bottom, so all their little faces would show... I might redo that.

When you start spelling my name right.

Just kiddin' with you, I don't see myself ever getting into another set, but I suppose it's possible. T206 has enough going on to keep me busy for a lifetime.

There's a book "Sport American Team Baseball Card Checklist" put out a few years back that has team checklists for T205, T206, T207, the major 1903's issues and of course the modern Topps and Bowman. Very useful. The one I have is #5 - 1990. I don't know if it's been updated since. I can scan lists if anyone needs them.

Frank - love the "Cubbie Pile" scan - I just saved it off for my wallpaper - hope you dont mind!

Trae - that team list feature on mlbvintage.com is great work - thank you!

I'm bummed there aren't any horizontal Cubs cards in this set...

Thanks for all the help, guys. I've got the following to give me a start:

Schulte Front view
Schulte Back view
Moran
Needham

I know there are a few that will be tougher, such as the Lundgren. I'll attempt to get them all in PSA 3 or SGC 40, but 3 of the 4 I currently have are raw. If they don't get the grades I'm hoping for, I'll put them towards the ones I want.

Thanks again for the help.
