A Monster Number "Attaboy" goes out to Steve D today.

Steve, I also have some vintage lottery tickets available.:D

jp1216 11-19-2013 12:51 PM

Congrats Steve! 520 is/was my magic number too. That O'Hara is a toughie.

Lgarza99 11-19-2013 01:38 PM

Great job Steve! I've got a long ways to go but I hope to join you someday! What's next?

Steve D 11-19-2013 05:20 PM

Thanks Guys! :)

Getting to 520 cards in T206 took me just over 10 years (I started with a Cobb red background in Aug '03).

I'm not sure what I'm going to do next set-wise. I have been going after Old Judge HOFers the last 4 years (I have 8 of the 27 different HOFers), so I know I'll be continuing that goal.

Steve

Bocabirdman 11-23-2013 04:32 AM

I feel like I am chopping down a redwood with a nail file but I have grabbed two more Monster bits....New MN is 434.9

The New Two:

115a. Bill Dahlen (Boston) P150
151. Bull Durham P150

Wildfireschulte 11-23-2013 07:20 AM

I'm new to the site, but this post has renewed my interest in T206's. So time to break out the shoe boxes, separate the doubles and count some cards. What is the best source for a current checklist? Wikipedia and T206 museum sites list 514 and Lipset Volume 3 has 523 cards listed.

ullmandds 11-23-2013 07:36 AM

As dis-interested in t206 as I am...even I am curious to find out what you have in those shoeboxes wildfire!!!!

518 is considered complete by some not including demmit, o'hara st louis variations.

520 will include them and is complete to many.

524 is the way to go and will include wagner, doyle ny nat'l, magie error and plank!

frankbmd 11-23-2013 07:59 AM

How to get from 514 to 524

Some of the 514 checklists include a and b variations for cards with basically the same front image but with different teams or captions. They are

Doyle NY & Doyle NY NATL
Magee Portrait & Magie Port
Demmitt NY & SL
O'Hara NY & SL
F Smith White Cap Chi & (Chi & Bos)
Lundgren KC & Chi
Kleinow Catching NY & Bos
Elberfeld Port NY & Wash
G Brown(e) Was & Chi
Dahlen Bos & Bro

Peter's explanation of 518 and 520 are of course correct.;)

wazoo 11-23-2013 08:15 AM

Peter, you say you're not interested in t206 threads, but I've seem you commenting on a lot more t206 threads lately. Maybe there's some interest and you just don't know it ;)

ullmandds 11-23-2013 08:36 AM

Right, Waz...I'm just trying to be kinder...and gentler!!!:)

Wildfireschulte 11-23-2013 08:43 AM

So Lipset's list with 523 is only missing one card - seems to include all of the variations Frank listed, but I may be off a Smith. First time through, I'm at 304 but haven't found my Cubs box yet.

Technically correct because my spreadsheets were backed up when my computer died, but the last remaining building on the grounds where the infamous Mustang Ranch brothel once stood went up in flames Sunday, March 26, 2007 and no, I wasn't there.

43 new sets have been added.

Everyone did not post on day 1 of course. The Monster number archives are as ragged as an A & G advertising poster before restoration.

Initially there were some lists from the early months that were posted. I would suggest Post #79 for the first list of the Top 40, posted on Feb 20, 2012. You needed 46 cards to be in the Top 40 then. Now you need 508 to be in the Top 40. Somebody must still be printing these puppies.:eek::D:D

I currently update a master list on my laptop, and then copy & paste to post #1 as an edit. I'm really glad we switched over to posting the whole list in Post #1. It's easier for me and more accessible for you, plus I don't have to add a post for the purpose of updating the list.

stewbacca 12-23-2013 06:24 PM

I was at zero two years ago. Started in Oct. of 2012 and just picked up number 140(no need to up date though) and it was a Ty Cobb sgc 10. Also picked up one of those Dakota wood boxes from JP's father in law as a Christmas gift. Love working on this set. Thanks for all the help guys!!!

Don't feel too bad. I have added 344 cards since the Summer of '12 and only moved up FOUR places. Speaking of which, I have picked up five since my last update. My new MN is 446.9 :)

Two years ago I held three T206 a Bastian, Crandall and Rhoads ( or was it Rhodes or Rhoades) and still have them. Hit 518 with numerous dupes, some of dubious heritage, this fall. Have not decided to expand to 520 but have not ruled it out. Upgrade is the word, it never stops!
