Yeah, it is from the ebay lot. The person who bought them listed it on ETSY, which I check maybe once per week. Got lucky.

Note to self: Check etsy a little more often.

I check etsy very infrequently. Are their selling fees significantly lower than ebay’s? I see etsy as a marketplace for “crafty” items and can’t see why anyone would list baseball memorabilia there (eyeball, wise). I’m glad you found your pennant!

I’ve bought three Giants items on etsy….one was a smoking deal; another I never received and a pin from France that took a loooooong time to get here. :p

You need the patience of a saint to troll Etsy. There are a couple vintage sellers on there but aside from them you will be sifting through basically the worst items that get pulled into your eBay search. If you're running low on 1980s mini pennants or homemade flags of your favorite team, it's the place to be.

If you're just doing a couple teams, I guess it's not too bad. But for me, collecting all teams football, I lose interested after the Rams.

Well, you guys clearly aren't as bored as I am :)

Here are a few others I've picked up from ETSY this year. Usually the things I find/buy are relatively modern (1970s/1980s) but much more rare than people think.

One is a one-year pennant that is tough in general, but especially tough in orange (although there is a very beat up one on ebay right now).

The second is the rare cloth/1969 version of a rather common design.

But, yeah, mostly what I see is modern and not at all rare. It helps that I'm only looking for a few teams.

That cloth Giants is an awesome Etsy score Marc.

Here are a few of the very rare modern oddball/bootlegs I've picked up, whose value doesn't quite match their scarcity. I think some, possible all were made in the 1990s.

Those bootlegs are great, Rob.

Here are two that I really, really, really want to find.

It's interesting (to me anyway) that some of the bootlegs (like the one on the left) are made on thicker stock and others (like the one on the right, and all the ones I pictured) on thinner stock.

(Wow...Have vintage pennants really dried up this much?)

So, how is that any different than ebay? :p

I saw a good Etsy deal today on a Giants "coin purse" with the 1958 schedule on it. Good deal, but I have one.

Cloth Giants is the second-rarest, only to the A’s. Must be something about the Bay Area LOL … very nice

I like the Indians. Kinda unique.

Where is our 1971 Pirates guy??? This pennant is wild:

https://www.ebay.com/itm/32487618023...e&LH_Auction=1

It looks like an Ad Flag with “stolen” ASCO graphics. Same style and mascot-lifting logo seen on the 1966 Orioles, but ASCO was still using cloth and the thicker softer felt. Still I can’t say I’ve ever seen this before. …

I recall that some 1973 Steve Blass pennants were made but the graphics were way, way off center ….

These are very nice, they are from that unidentified company that almost certainly made the pennants pictured here …

Anybody have a picture of the American League 1964 version?

I’ve never seen the American League version. I’ve had hat pennant twice over the years, but I haven’t even seen one of those in years. That’s in nice shape too. Nice pennant.

Thanks, Jason. I’ve never seen the AL version either but figured if one exists, this group would know [emoji3166]

I only collect pennants directly related to the 1971 Pirates. There were 8 versions of such pennants that I was aware of until today when I discovered this photo of Steve Blass on EBay. It appears that there was a 1971 World Series Championship pennant made for Steve Blass day in Canaan CT. The last census indicates there are less than 4000 residents in Canaan. Due to this I can't believe many of these were produced. Has anybody here ever seen one of these in person?

Two years later I finally landed this one tonight thanks to a huge assist from Rob (ooo-Ribay)! After doing a bit of research I learned that in 1970 there were 931 residents in Canaan Ct. This was likely the only opportunity I would ever have to add one of these to my collection. I owe you one Rob! I can’t wait to have it in my hands.

perezfan 11-17-2021 12:39 AM

All right!!!!

Glad you got it, Mike! To say beautiful and rare pennant would be an understatement. Congrats!

Great pickup, Mike!!!
Congrats, my friend. Very cool...

The Blass pennant went to the proper home! Sure wish I could get that Holy Grail feeling!

It’s in damn nice shape, but maybe a little Oxy…….?

I’m kind of conflicted.

On one hand, I’ve got plenty of stuff and any new pennant I get gets ironed, put in a sleeve and stashed away.

On the other hand, I rarely see Giants pennants I “need.”

Well... looks like I outbid Rob for this one. I love the look of the batter. Wish it wasn't 3/4 size, but that seems to the only size for many of these NY Giants pennants.

I've not seen the pennant before Marc. Love the bright red on that one.

I won an auction on Sunday for a lot of DiMaggio memorabilia including this pennant. I can't wait to get it in my hands. I'm pretty excited about the cap too. I've only managed to find 2 sales of it. One at Hakes in 2009 and the other at Lelands in 2001.

Love the pennants with grommets. I've seen a couple of those from 1961. Even though it's not dated, any chance that it's from the same year?

Very nice Gary! That one is definitely "frameworthy"...

Wow! That Mathewson is a beautiful pennant but $21K is a heck of a price.

The same pennant sold for $13,750 at Christie's not even a year ago. https://www.christies.com/en/lot/lot-6296494

Agreed it is a beauty and I had a few bids in for it. But it was way over what I was willing to pay.
Yes I was amazed that it would be that much over the year priors price.
Sadly it will not be in my collection hopefully someone here added it to theirs.

$21k is a big price, but people will pay 2x, 5x, 20x, even 50x that for a small, cardboard portrait of Mickey Mantle.

So would this be the right time to put this up for auction?
