Or it could be like post Hurricane Katrina where the business owners took the insurance payments and never rebuilt. Some will stay in the market, many will get soured on it and give up.

According to the Blowout site, this quote from Joe Orlando has been removed from the PSA site.
"Today, there are those who are still trying it. Some of them are butchers and some of them are master artists, but it doesn't, in any way, change the approach of PSA graders. The tools have changed in some cases and the skill level of the whackers has heightened but so has the awareness of our experts -- that's what they are paid to do -- and that's why people have so much faith in the PSA process. Just as in the everyday world of criminal justice, it's up to the authorities to keep up with or stay a step ahead of the criminals in order to prevent crime and catch them. As the world's sportscard grading authority, we take the same approach and will accept nothing less from our staff." __________________ |

IMO the biggest issue with properly rectifying the situation - based on my understanding of the extent and value of the “conserved” cards known - let alone the unknown cards is that there’s likely little chance that ANY tpg has the financial capacity to make it right ... eg fully reimburse the loss from the last sale to the new/true value. If my thoughts on this are accurate ... it doesn’t matter how much a company desires to “do the right thing” ... if they lack the funds to do so.

At this point I have ZERO faith in the PSA Process.....very sad.... they will take no responsibility...scammers trimmers doctors will continue, PSA can't catch them or prevent them...no consequences for the trimmers/doctors ...they just submit under surrogates...then consign to auction houses Nothing to see here same business as usual ...Unfortunate :-( |
And now for something completely different:
PSA throws away a card worth $2,000. Two others in thread say they heavily damaged cards while in their facility and still graded both a 9: one with a crease and one with heavy corner wear. Hearkens back to the folded over corner that was kept a PSA 8 on the post-war board last year. PSA is just disgusting at this point. https://www.blowoutforums.com/showthread.php?t=1301445 https://i.imgur.com/YKM7bnzl.jpg https://live.staticflickr.com/7818/4...9b406978_z.jpg |

Think you're better than PSA's graders? Try your hand at the PSA booth at the National!

Well, I for one trust them. |
Hey Steve, has that internal investigation finished up yet? Anything "material" that is worth disclosing?

Only thing they done was to ban all the Blowout forum peeps that complained.
|
And a blowout member just posted that PSA is now HIDING THEIR CERT NUMBERS in the Set Registry. So scummy.
|
I got banned. That's not gonna stop me from going to Public Fridays, Long Beach Coin Expo, etc. Besides I have other friends who will submit for me. In my case PSA screwed up, and then banned me when I complained.
They also banned my email, but once again that didn't stop me. I just used other email address addresses. |

Got an email from PSA today.... The title?
"Sports May Be Shut Down, but We’ve Still Got Our Cards!!" I think there's a typo shouldn't it be "Sports May Be Shut Down, but We’ve Still Got Your Cards!!"? |

Good time for a repost.
PSA has suspended the account of blowoutcards store in Chantilly, VA from submitting because of their allowing the posters on their message board to report TRUTHFUL, DAMAGING information about PSA. |
Quote:
Most posters on the Blowout forum are absolute PSA homers so will only give rise to more suspicion and truthery from disgruntled collectors. Way to shoot your customers in the foot. |
Not trying to hijack the thread, but I received an e-mail about a hiring event at PSA for August 25. So, out of curiosity, I signed up. I immediately received a text and an e-mail from a group called Brazen about the event.
Brazen?! Rather an interesting choice of names. |

I'm not sure what kind of bizzaro-world we are living in these days - I can't seem wrap my head around how someone ends up in such an abusive relationship with a card grading company. |
No surprise, they are an integral part of the money chain. People will put up with a lot if you can help them with that.

CU - psa ripe for PE-VC hostility
My Bay Area tech sources tell me CU will be the subject of a "hostile" takeover in the next 12 months. Additionally, a major new player (an App) in the collecting world will be introducing themselves very soon. It will be geared toward super high end investors, and likely with an emphasis on modern (hoops predominately) cards.
Many, many VC-PE people are the ones driving the wild and crazy market this year, heavily investing in all things MJ, Kobe, LeBron, etc. Additionaly, my tech sources tell me Howard Schultz (Founder and Ex-CEO of Starbucks) who is generally known for high end art collecting has crossed the line and is diving in to the sports card world. Not certain if any of this is groundbreaking news or has already been topiced on N 54, however, in case it has not, I thought I would share the info. |
We discussed the possibility of some larger shareholders (including board member Nat Turner) trying to overthrow the Collector's Universe board of directors, but Nat pulled himself out of that.
BGS was bought out a few years ago, and their owner just got sentenced to seven years in jail for bribing political figures. Both companies are doubling down with PWCC that the cards they given number grades but have been PROVEN with VISUAL EVIDENCE that they were trimmed, new grades and a letter saying each company stands behind each of their HALF MILLION DOLLAR mistakes. It's becoming comical just how these companies operate in concert to scam the collector just so millionaires can brag that they have these cards in supposedly pristine grades. |
I just hope for 5 things...
1. The new parent company operates with honesty/integrity, and without favoritism. 2. That current PSA Management (i.e. Sloan/Orlando) are given their walking papers, and are in no way involved with the new endeavor. 3. That the new company is competent at identifying alteration, and will make good on PSA’s fatal “mistakes” and mid-grades. Hopefully the customer is able to seek recourse under the new ownership, as opposed to being stiffed by PSA. 4. That the new company will not censor or ban its customers for voicing legitimate concerns. 5. That the new company will be able to provide significantly better turnaround times than the current PSA model. Hopefully that isn’t asking too much. |
Mise en Place of ingredients for failure. I wouldn't hold my breath that things change. Ever been in a relationship where the other said "I'm going to change".
