Yes i came across the pond...but technically I came across the pond for a business trip. But it was incredible fortuitousness that it coincided with the national. :)

“Hey boss, from a company standpoint, the first weekend in August would be the best time for that trip” :p

Yes, first year Rangers (and their best by a mile). They barely snuck this one in prior to the days of corporate logos and mass-production.

Chicken or the egg situation with this one. As we know (thanks Kyle) Keezer never got an MLB license so this had to be early for the Rangers...and extremely late for Keezer.

Just realized this pennant is a blatant ripoff of the Midwest Badge & Novelty Co. pinbacks which came out in 1962. Although Keezers are super cool, their artwork was almost always inferior to Trench, WGN, etc.

Pennant pickups have been very slow for me lately. Just have not seen much that fits my niche.

The 49ers is missing one tassel, but the cost to me was only about half of what a 4 tassel version sold for on ebay last week (about $400... and that one had a stain). I'm thinking about using the small piece of the 4th tassel that is left to fill in the missing white in the spine. Just set it in. Or I may leave it alone.

My pennant collection started with Santa Clara about 30 years ago. Just when I thought I'd seen every Santa Clara pennant, this new (to me) one shows up. Glad to add it. And it provides the type of intermittent reinforcement that behavioral science tells us is such a potent predictor of behavior. And thanks to all my Net54 friends who send me links when a new Santa Clara pennant shows up somewhere.

Come on Rob...The design is nothing like that of the pin. The bats are pointing up! :D

What kind of behavior is that? If the same pennant keeps showing up we can accurately predict you'll buy it. :)

This was Dale's Sports Collectibles. Great booth.

He had these Jimmie Hall and Bob Allison pennants for sale. I bought the Allison pennant because it was in much better condition. I haven't seen either of them before

Rick Haskins had one of those too. But my budget necessitated that I make a choice. I've seen the keezer for sale before but never the blue one. So I channelled my best American Pickers...if you've never seen something before, the time to buy it is when you see it.

That was the old (Frank Fritz) American Pickers. These days, Mike gets all philosophical about why people collect and what stuff “means” to people. Robbie is just annoying and says “iconic” a lot.

Absolutely legit....

Just look at the spine. Common sense dictates that a stiff cardboard-like spine with perfectly straight rows of stich holes emanates from the 1970s or newer.

Contrast that with a soft felt spine with slightly wavy/curved rows of stitching that indicate pre-1960s. The imperfect stitching is a tell-tale sign that some overworked seamstress performed the task, as opposed to a post 1970 automated system.

Who made that funky series? Green, red and yellow is quite the color combo.

I like them. I own a purple variant of the Orioles funky pennant. I've never seen the other 2.

We have another mystery manufacturer.

A $15 pennant (tip issues). It's nice to find an ebay seller (and Net54 member) who realizes his item isn't the Holy Grail. My other purple one is monochromatic and has spine issues.

I decided to "save" this torn and battered Seals pennant from ebay. Nothing too drastic. Just some very light fabric glue to keep the torn areas from getting larger and replacement vintage trench tassels for the bottom (also light fabric glue). I also have a damaged red/maroon one with the the player names written on the graphics. I can't seem to find a clean version.

It's strange to me that the green felt has faded so much (the back is much darker green) while the pink paint under the Seal has not.

ooo-ribay 08-14-2025 11:48 AM

Very nice, Marc. Green NYG pennants always seem to be faded.

Doesn't look vintage to me. The spine looks off and the graphic looks more iron-on than silk screened. Looks more like this 1990s issue.

Not UKGary quality, but I just picked this up. Cedar Rapids was the Giants' affiliate from 1975-79. Notable alumni included Bob Brenley and Chili Davis. Rob Deer also played there...he went on to hit 11 HR's with the Giants and 219 elsewhere. What's interesting about this pennant (to me at least) is that I have 15 SF pennants with this basic design (in white, black and orange) but SF never used the white outlined ball on any of those 15.

Funny you should ask. I tried to post a picture of an SF pennant a few days ago but my Net54 access was blocked. Leon said it was due to new software, Waterbury was a Giants affiliate in 1977-78.

Wow, sure looks like a Repco-inspired pennant. But I don't think it's by them--it's just not printed as well as your Senators/BBC pennant, also from ca. 1913.

I believe it’s the same company that made the Athletics pennant that you nicely reproduced and featured on your blog. Also pictured a left handed pitcher. I used to own that, many years ago, it also had the continuous loops for tassels.

The BBCs are in a class of their own …

Wowza! I'd love to know the story, but then you'd have to kill me. I'll trust your expertise in adjudging this genuine, but color me at least a little skeptical from a distance. Strange they wouldn't have made the player a righty for WaJo in his greatest season and following his second greatest the year before. Overall, a mind-boggling acquisition. Congrats!

It’s definitely authentic and of the time, the construction and feel of the pennant all point to that. My guess is that this was a generic graphic that may have been used for other teams.
