TED Z

Ted,

I agree that the 1910 Coupon cards deserve serious consideration as T206 offerings. Others would disagree.

In the interest of making this a complete (and unqualified) set, I ask that the board post a Robert Edgar Willett...with a back that is generally accepted by mainstream collectors as a T206.

Please know that this is not a knock on you. I sincerely appreciate everything you have done for this thread. And I personally thank you for your contributions.

To everyone...a genuine T206 Wagner that is posted by a board member who owns it, at any stage of this thread, would also be something for which I would be truly grateful. Powell...KO...anyone?

Best Regards,

Eric

Bruce,

This is an excellent idea. I would be honored to shift the focus of this thread after the final sixteen subjects have been posted.

I would compile the front/back combinations shown here on an Excel Worksheet. After this, if the board is open to the idea, I can change the title of this thread. Instead of "The Net54 virtual T206 set, alphabetically," it would be,"The Net54 virtual T206 Master Set."

Just a thought. Please let me know what you think, everyone. And...keep 'em coming. We still have 16 cards to go.

Best Regards,

Eric

Backtrack a little per Eric's request....

Also, I'd love to see a real board member owned Wagner posted as well :)

Sincerely, Clayton

(T213-1 is not a T206, why are you trying to re-invent the wheel Ted? ;) (jk))

Ted, great Uzit, and I love that Puttman proof.

I'm curious about the T213 Coupons. I own some Type-2 and Type-3, which have the different printing font and color. The Type-1 looks like the T206 font. And they were printed during the same time period as the T206s. This is why you consider them to be part of the set?
Were the Coupons all lumped together as one issue because they were from the same manufacturer, instead of being divided into separate issues?
What do they feel like? Are they glossy or are they the same as T206s?
And while I'm bothering you, what about Red Cross. I believe some of them were printed in 1910. Do you also consider them to be T206s ?
As you can see, there's a lot I don't know about this. I appreciate any help you can provide. :)

Thanks for the compliments and some good questions regarding the 1910 COUPON issue.

I will start by saying that Jeff Burdick's records regarding the the 1910 COUPON cards indicate that he was unaware that the "T213-1" were printed and issued in 1910.
Burdick's records show that this issue is dated circa 1914-1919 along with the other two COUPON issues (T213-2 & T213-3). We now know this was incorrect info.

The 1910 COUPON cards are indeed identical in all respects to their T206 counterparts....with this exception....these cards were printed on thinner cardboard stock.

My theory regarding the thinner stock is that these cards were never intended to be used as "stiffiners" in tobacco packs. No cigarette pack has ever been found label-
led "COUPON" cigarettes. However, cartons labelled "COUPON" Cigarettes have been found that would have contained 100's of this brand of cigarettes.

1910 RED CROSS

Yes, I'm of the school that considers the 1st series of RED CROSS cards (circa 1910) should have been classified as T206's.

Best regards,

TED Z

Please allow me a moment to thank everyone who contributed to this thread. I sincerely appreciate all of your contributions and am grateful for your time and efforts.

Since joining Net54, this has been my favorite endeavor. To witness the board working in concert to build this virtual T206 set has been a tremendous experience. Not only have I learned a great deal, about the set and many of the board members here, it has been incredibly fun.

I tip my hat to all of you fine people for everything that you have done to help this, "neat idea for a thread" take a life of its own.

Once again, thank you all very much...and happy collecting.

Best Regards,

Eric

Best thread I've seen yet on Net54!

What a great thread! Best I've seen on Net54 so far. I just spent much of this week going thru and looking at all the great Monster cards. I learned a lot. Some examples:

1) I saw many great looking cards with rich color that were lower grade. In fact ... most of my favorite cards were not graded :-)

2) Loved being able to see all the different backs that I read about but rarely see. Like the Old Mill Brown Back Sid Smith ... well I could go on. Just a great education on T-206 backs in this thread. But would like to see more!

3) The mis-cut cards lead me to a ton of questions ... like are there any know uncut T-206 sheets in existence; did the sheets have just one player on them e.g., I saw a few mis-cut top/bottom cards that lead me to believe that the same player was above and/or below ... ?

4) Some of the scans were high resolution and clearly brought out the backgrounds that the American Lithograph Company created that reminded me of some Conlon photo's of the period. Thus ... I guess many/most of the T-206's were based on original photo's by a handful of period photographers?

5) I made a list of my favorite card poses as I went thru the entire thread and noticed that many of my favorites were poses where the player was wearing a jersey/sweater with the team name logo prominent. Again ... reminiscent of many original Conlon photo's I've seen and enjoyed.

Bottomline ... a great thread and resource that I will continue to use as I educate myself on this historic "T" set. Thanks to everyone for sharing their time/photo's!

One more thing to add ...

I forgot to add to my list yesterday that after looking thru all the cards, I found it a bit surprising that there were so few Piedmont 42 backs. I guess they are a little rarer than I thought.
