awesome! estate sales and garage sales and local flea markets! especially if you can pinpoint estate sales from people who are related to former players! good luck..i bet that's a tough team to find items from.

yeah..i just checked ebay and see what you mean on pricing. i did notice some team pictures from 1937 and 1939 offered by r.cedeno. I have bought a ton of jim thorpe pictures from her and you can usually give her an offer of less than half of her 'bin' price and she'll accept. they will have been taken out of spalding and reach catalogues. i collect jim thorpe items and have bought alot of catalogue photos of him and team pics with him in it from her. pictures of teams that go with the programs might be a nice addition! just an idea!

Just back from PSA. Raw purchase from the summer.

Love that Brady!!
|
That Brady is sweet.
I decided to start a graded HOFer RC PC and picked the Elway up at the LCS today. Got the Pujols at the same time, but I know he's not a HOFer. May be at some point though. https://i.imgur.com/aWtc8n3.jpg?1 |

I bought a collection and this was in it. The card was in an old snap holder from the 80s that was so roached and old that it made the card look horrible and shattered when I tried to take it apart. But the card was really nice. Also got these two in the same manner: http://photos.imageevent.com/exhibit...%20PSA%206.jpg http://photos.imageevent.com/exhibit...%20PSA%204.jpg Have since had them slabbed. Needless to say, I was very happy with the acquisition since I valued the trio at poor condition based on how they looked in the holders. |

Picked up another Paterson Panthers program. Beat up but I still love it.

Lately I've been collecting auto rookie cards. If anyone uses instagram: https://www.instagram.com/goatrosters/
If not, I will try hosting some of them on here too. The larger project at hand, is for each major sport I make an all time roster and then collect cards of the roster. Figuring out which players make the 53 player football roster was fairly tough but quite fun. |

After seeing Adams post, I had to have a "blue-flame"fart card for myself:D Best $2 I ever spent!
1960 NFL Rookie of the Year with an 11 year NFL Pro career. Cogdill underwent bypass surgery in 2002 after a virus damaged his heart. In 2012, his heart was failing, but he was ineligible for a heart transplant at age 75. He turned to the crowdfunding site, GoFundMe.com in an effort to raise $35,000 to pay for experimental stem cell treatment in the Bahamas. He died on October 20, 2016, from complications of heart failure, kidney failure and dementia. http://www.net54baseball.com/picture...ictureid=27260 |

A grail of sorts for me.
|
Oh my! That is amazing. Congrats.
|
On the PSA side the AUTHs are obviously second-class citizens, but given how difficult some of these are to find at all, I was very glad to find this one.
|
The "Auth" wouldn't bother me a bit on nice box cut issues like that.

Great pickup Peter. Nice price and they had some other ones that were nice as well. They didn’t last long either.

Helluva Brown...I am envious.

Rarely post here, but got in a little lot I liked with some older stuff so figured what the heck. All came in one lot with the exception of the Payton. Not a big one, but a little Sweetness is never a bad thing. The Fears is by far the oldest card I have, and I think the Blanda is pretty cool. Anyway.....

Very nice pickups, Rob! I love that Fears and the entire '51 Bowman set. Such classic artwork and poses.

One more (#23 Cookie Gilchrist RC) to complete my set! Larry http://www.net54baseball.com/picture...ictureid=27504http://www.net54baseball.com/picture...ictureid=27505 |
Has anyone seen this card or have an opinion on it?
https://www.ebay.com/itm/1948-Bowman...C/352857609129 I stopped bidding on PWCC cards after the scandal broke, and have continued to avoid them. What's curious is this is at least the 3, maybe 4th time this card has been for auction this last year. It 'sold' for 845 on Oct 31t, 688 in Sept, and I am pretty sure once or twice by PWCC before that. Seems suspicious as hell. |
I didn't have much time for the local show yesterday, but managed to pick these up in one purchase. One dealer had brought a large stack of Unitas because he knew I collect Unitas, but as I already had at least one graded, and in some cases more of every one, I decided not to splurge on those. Added these to my early '70s dynasty Dolphins collection. The NFLPA iron ons aren't the most visually striking things ever, but a nice oddball and since I had the Unitas already these jumped out at me. Love both of the Kellogg's football issues, so had to have these as well, on my way to a graded set on these I think. And neither here nor there, but got them all for $32 which I thought was a really good deal without really knowing the values. It was a deal to me regardless.

I love those two OJ cards. Those action shots were what defined a great football card for me back in those days.

Nice pickups, Rob. I've always liked the Kellogg's sets too! Agree the NFLPA iron ons are not very imaginative but it's a nice little oddball set to put together.
Congrats! jeff |
I love those Iron Ons. I remember buying them from a vending machine in our local bowling alley.

Nice pickup, Mike! Early NFL season passes can be hard to find so congrats on a great snag.
jeff |
Thanks Jeff. Like I said, I don't know much about these, but knowing the bearer of this got to see Bronko Nagurski play was a big part of the purchase.
|
Yeah, yeah, yeah, I know, another Payton RC. But ya know what, it's mine, I love it, and it finally finishes my set, so I'm showing' it.

I remember buying a few of those player patches from a shop back in the 90s.
They were in those little toy/candy vending machine plastic bubble holders. They were not sold via a machine at that time, but he had a box full of them in the plastic capsules. I assumed that is how they were originally sold, but never actually checked on it. Quote:

Great Perry image.

If anyone here happened to buy the heritage auction lots last night that included the auto RC of Stanfel and the other lot with Christiansen, and they were not the primarily reason for buying the lots...let me know!
|
OK I love the 1965 Topps football "tall-boys" and I love Topps inserts too. So why have I waited so long to start collecting the 1965 inserts "Rub-Offs"? Just arrived today so I'm off collecting another set!

Just picked all of these up today at a local show.
I guess I have a bunch of nice Gale Sayers Rookies now |
Oh my goodness. Gee whiz, I'm just hoping to get ONE someday. Such a great card, or should I say, such great cards. Congrats on a great day at the show.
|
OK, hit an antique store today and my little score made me happy, so that's all that counts right.
Yes, that's just the Parker Brothers Pro Draft game, but what I got it for is the complete 50 card set that originally came with the game. The game is in basically new condition inside, the box probably EX++/EXMT. But the cards are just as nice, ranging from EX+ to NM for a solid EXMT group. Yes, I checked each card, they are all the PB version. Pretty excited with this pick-up as I'm a big '74 guy. The other is the old 1972 Sunoco album and set. Yeah, the album has seen better days, but the entire set is inside, all 624, in much nicer shape than the cover. I already have a nice NM empty album in my collection. Just a shot of the Cowboys team set as an example. I have always wanted this set, but its a little pricey to build. Now, I definitely would have preferred they be either in a NM album or all loose, but for the price I am quite pleased to have the whole set. Just for my my own personal collection, so not worried about re-sale value. https://images15.fotki.com/v1669/pho...MG_2118-vi.jpg https://images54.fotki.com/v1662/pho...MG_2119-vi.jpg https://images46.fotki.com/v274/phot...MG_2120-vi.jpg |
