Took me a while but I finally incorporated my Joe D Exhibits card into my office display. I wish I could say the bat has historic, but it's just my souvenir from the Louisville Slugger museum.http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...d03f43e290.jpg

Picked this up recently and just got around to scanning it today. Technically not an August pickup; however, is being shown for the first time.

Please options wanted ! I never bought a card that was graded by BCCG .

jason.1969 08-10-2016 03:43 PM

I don't know BCCG well nor do I collect graded cards. However, I'll share two opinions.

1. Any Aaron RC is a great pickup!

2. The card definitely wouldn't get anything close to a 6 from PSA! (Unless a really big customer submitted it.)

Thanks Jason ! I know the grade from BCCG is crap I was more concerned with
Authenticity . I assumed since it was Beckett that at the very least the authenticity would be something they check the same way they do with the regular grading to make sure it is unaltered .

Should that card not be graded in a BVG slab instead?

I don't want to assume anything, but I believe BCCG slabs are for modern cards ?

At this time, BCCG is only able to grade cards of standard size and thickness. For vintage cards (1980 and older) the book value (ungraded price based on the Beckett price guide) can not be more then $300 in value if you wish to have the card graded by BCCG.

Beckett Vintage Grading services is the way to have a vintage card graded. The service recognizes the difference in production technologies between modern and pre-1981 cards, especially in the condition of the cards' surface and edges. Cards produced earlier than 1981 are generally recognized as "vintage" cards by most dealers and collectors.

Hard to get more historic than 61 Maris. (Still the record, in my opinion.)

Is that a pin hole? (Top right corner looking at it)

Nice card either way, but if that is a pin hole, I believe the best you'll get is a 1?

Sinker Slider 08-12-2016 07:27 AM

That is a good question, which I cannot answer because I didn't see it until after dropping my mail at the post office this morning. But yes, if it's a pin hole, a 1 will be coming my way.

I am hopeful that it is something on the scanner, because I did take a pretty good look at that corner at various angles. I have made worse mistakes, though.

ETA: It shows on the seller's scan too, so it may very well be a pin hole. Ugh.

Hopefully, and it if is a card you wanted badly, I wouldn't let it bother you as it is hardly noticeable, imo.

Good luck. :)

Was it mentioned by the seller? If not, you may have a case for the card not being as described if you want to go that route?

Sinker Slider 08-12-2016 08:06 AM

No it wasn't mentioned. But it's a nice enough card that I'll probably just bust it out of its case, eat the grading fee, and include it in my ungraded collection if it turns out to be a pin hole, as now seems likely (see edit).

ETA: I looked at a bunch of others online and it is almost certainly a recurring print defect. They pretty much all have a spot there.

Today at our local monthly show I found these in the dollar box. So now I am the second person hoarding this card LOL!
http://i176.photobucket.com/albums/w...can%202_2.jpeg

Then I purchased "The Julie" collection, and also a '64 Topps World Series card with a '64 Bazooka stamp of Elston Howard afixed
http://i176.photobucket.com/albums/w...03%20copy.jpeg

Best find of the day a trio of 1964 Topps Beatles cards. Shari writes:

"Ella isn't he a doll?"
"Ella Here keep this & think of me everytime I get a double I will give it to you".
"Ella Please never give up your dreams and always remember me"

You were a true friend Sharon!

I know it's a PD but why would anyone put a pin in the right corner of a card? It would just kind of dangle instead on being straight for display. I've had pinholes in cards but usually in the center somewhere.

I wondered the same thing but noticed what looked like a hint of another pinhole on the left side too.

I have seen pics of pinholes in all sorts of places but thought maybe the previous owner liked to hang his cards at a 45 degree angle?

John, please accept my apologies. In retrospect, I didn't even need to say that. I see that you were just providing additional information. I could have just said "thank you", and acknowledged that you were posting something that could benefit the OP (or others) down the road.

I didn't mean for my comment to come off as being snotty, but it sure looks like it did. Thank you for chiming in. :)

No worries. I often digress, and can understand if that was annoying.

Gorgeous Morgan RC. Tough to find centered. Considering how nasty his numbers are, he's kind of slept-on.

Memory Lane Win

1 Attachment(s)
After looking for quite some time, I was able to score a '54 Kaline last night in the Memory Lane auction. I got it for $532 + BP = $638. While it is not the $450-$500 card that it was 6-8 months ago, based upon recent trends, I was pleasantly surprised to have landed it. What was more surprising was that it was only 4 bids and I placed the winning bid over a week ago.

There was one on Ebay (a 6) that sold on Thursday for $720 and one that will end soon that is heading in that direction.

My upgrades are now down to just a couple and Kaline was a big hurdle. PWCC sold one for $1400+ last month and it might have been a PWCC exception/higher end example, so happy that I got it where I got it and maybe a sign that things are starting to settle?

Neal 08-21-2016 08:45 AM

Great mid grade examples fellas!

When I saw it, I thought it looked good; but then I realized I didn't have a clue.
I just thought it looked naturally old. What would one look for/at to determine authenticity? Anything in particular? Thanks
