Here are some 1914-1915 Spanish cards and a 1912-13 (I think)
The Roma Forns is from 1912-1913 or the year after, I believe. 1913 is the last year that he played. The others include team cards of Espana and Irun, as well as an action card of Armet and Belauste (played for Spain in their first Olympics) These are some of the earliest Spanish cards that I have been able to put my hands on. http://i931.photobucket.com/albums/a...ps8633680d.jpg |
Hi! These are some items I picked up today and made me excited :)
The first two are Tinghäll cards of Ademir and Barbosa. Tinghälls were Swedish candy cards, and these were issued in 1950. I think they are really rare. Ademir Marques de Menezes was one of the greatest players of the time, and highest scorer in the 1950 World Cup. I think this is the only card issued depicting Ademir: http://i614.photobucket.com/albums/t...lsAdemirF.jpeg Moacir Barbosa Nascimento was the goalkeeper of the 1950 World Cup Brazil team. He was also one of the greatest, but he had a tragic fate - his name is written in history as the man who made Brazil cry. He was considered as responsible for the most tragic loose of Brazil, this against Uruguay during the 1950 final, a match better known as "el Maracanaço". http://i614.photobucket.com/albums/t...sBarbosaF.jpeg Then I found also this. An example of the Swedish Record magazine, issued in 1958 with number 37. What makes this issue special, is the fact that in this issue one of the two Swedish 1958 rookie cards of Pele was offered as a hand-cut card. It is not impossible to find this card, for example on eBay, but this was the first time I saw a complete issue in such a good state with an uncut card. http://i614.photobucket.com/albums/t...1958Rekord.jpg ... And a closer view: http://i614.photobucket.com/albums/t...RekordPele.jpg I also got a very nice example of 1965 Bergmann Franz Beckenbauer (one of the two 1965 rookie cards of this great player): http://i614.photobucket.com/albums/t...ckenbauerF.jpg Happy hunting everyone :) |
Very nice!

I finally got the time to scan some new arrivals. I will probably present all here, so stop me if I get boring :)
I also started a blog at mysoccercards.com and I will try to upload my nicest cards there, as well as add information mostly about the cards. My ambition is to update it often, with cards I acquire or new cool info about cards that are already published. Anyway that beauty here arrived the other day: http://media.tumblr.com/69c22727df7a...YpS1t0ntzh.jpg Issued during 1974 in France, by Ageducatifs, this is Michel François Platini´s rookie card. Platini is the current president of the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA), and he is -by many- considered as one of the best, if not the best, players of all time. He was a member of the French national team that won the 1984 European Championship, a tournament in which he was the top goalscorer and voted the best player. This card illustrates a young Platini from 1974 when he was currently playing with his first team, Nancy (Association Sportive Nancy-Lorraine), a French association football club based in Nancy, Lorraine. These cards are getting rarer and rarer to find, and finding one that has never been glued to an album is almost impossible. I love this. http://media.tumblr.com/27c51a26b95e...kWH1t0ntzh.jpg |

1902 WM Clarke & Son Ltd “Football Series” William ("Billy") Meredith This is the rookie card of William “Billy” Meredith issued in 1902 by WM Clarke & Son Ltd as a part of the series called “Football Series”. Meredith is considered by many to be the first, or at least one of the very first, real football superstars. He was named as the most popular player of the league, in a competition held by Umpire magazine in 1904. It has been said that he combined playing style of George Best with the attitude of Cantona. He played for Manchester City and Manchester United and his long career (he retired when he was 52!) was an adventure that among else included a bribery scandal during 1905. He is considered to be one of the top 5 players ever that have played for Manchester United. About this card: Clarkes was a Wills sister brand of cigarettes and they both did the same set of footballers, separately branded, in 1902, same photos, similar numbers. The Wills brand isn’t on the front of the Wills card whereas Clarkes is. The Clarkes have a single back whereas Wills have 2 types, albeit only one per card I believe. The Clarke’s cards are definitely scarcer. (Thank you James for the info above) |
Some odds & ends
Just picked up a few cards from South America.
Chocolatin Laponia Carlos Peucelle (Metal card with some 2 Monte Cudines Vincente de la Mata (Independiente great) and Emilio Baldonedo Los Cigarillos Dolar card of Espanol with Ricardo Zamora http://i931.photobucket.com/albums/a...psa8e5a89f.jpg |
Beautiful discs Bill. I also got in the mail today a 1946 Monte Cudine Alfredo Di Stefano. Straight from Argentina.
Di Stefano´s rookie card has been widely considered to be a (beautiful) card issued by Detergentes Platin in 1950. In reality, few collectors know that already in 1946 - in his home country Argentina - a disc card of the young Alfredo Di Stefano was issued by Monte Cudine. It is extremely rare to find, especially in an acceptable condition. I have one more for sale / trade if anyone is interested. https://31.media.tumblr.com/bfb48954...Mnc1t0ntzh.jpg |
Maradona Rookie card from 1977
http://media.tumblr.com/c6236bf46f72...yZ81t0ntzh.jpg
At last, I got my hands on this sweet Maradona rookie card from 1977. On 20 October 1976, just a few days before his 16th birthday, Diego Armando Maradona made his professional debut with Argentinos Juniors. He played there for 5 years, scoring 115 goals in 167 appearances before his extremely pricey transfer to Boca Juniors. This disc card was issued in Argentina during 1977 and it is the very first card depicting Maradona. He was then only 16 years old. It is extremely rare. |
Great Maradona! Thanks for sharing!

Some pick-ups from the last month. Some of them are on their way to California (PSA):
https://scontent-b-sea.xx.fbcdn.net/...37160034_o.jpg 1958-59 Quigol Pele 1978 Crack Maradona (the one is right now on ebay) 1908 Ogdens Billy Meredith 1958 Editora Aquarela (black number) Pele 1950 Tinghälls Varela 1950 Tinghälls Schiaffino 1908 Ogdens William Foulke For more info on these check my site, some of them are already there, the rest will be up during the next couple of days! Cheers! |
Wow nice haul there. The 1978 Maradona was really tough to find a few months ago but they seem to coming out of the woodwork lately. I'm glad psa decided to finally start grading it. It took me about 6 months to finally convince them.
|
I am glad you did ;-) I have the one of those two on its way to PSA right now. it should probably grade 1 or 2 but I will be happy to have it authenticated. Can you please convince them start grading those Ageducatifs Platini also? I would really like to submit that :-)
|
Do you have a checklist for that set or a link to one if it's anywhere on the web. I created a partial checklist of the crack set based on images I found of the album. That wasn't enough.. So I had to get the card graded by bgs and added to their database. Then I sent the partial checklist, scans of the album a link to the bgs database and the card in a bgs slab to cross over. I enjoy assinine projects like that
|
WOW! OK, lets try to work something out for that Platini rookie then. It should be easier, since there are a lot of full albums for sale out there. I will do some research and drop you a message if I find a check-list. Another interesting card that PSA should start grading is the 1965 Tarjeton Crack Pele, but that should be a bit harder to find checklist for. I will check it out.
|
I don't have that pele card but know the kne you are talking about. It's a great looking card IMO and one of his cooler cards. I'll be happy to help. I love to see new issues get slabbed for some reason. I just picked up this 1978 Argentina Campeon Libro De Estampas Maradona that I'm going to try to get slabbed. Any idea which 78 card more rare?

I got a package from England yesterday:

Very nice Adam. You can't go wrong with a Sir Bobby rookie! I really like the 1978 topps design. Classic Topps!
|
When I saw Charlton's wind tunnel tested hairdo I had to buy it. To lose a head of hair like that...poor bastard.
The 1978 is of course a Topps recycle of its 1977 football [U.S.] design. I like how many different Topps designs were recycled into UK soccer cards over the years and will probably pick up a type or two of each. |
My favourites from my recent pickups: the 1968 Cruyff rookie and a nice sample of the 1927 Dean rookie.

Not a card but WTF, this is kind of our soccer new items thread. 1958 wire photo of the Brazilian team landing in England after their cup victory. I believe that is young Mr. Edson Arantes do Nascimento dead center of the photo

I started this thread with no expectation that it would become to go to thread for soccer and cricket cards. It is really quite a selection of cards and players from top to bottom. All contributors should share the recognition for making this thread what it has become. Admittedly I do not look at the thread very often, but am always interested in the new additions. Thanks to all.

I have a lone Cricket card, a 1959 A&BC type example. This is a fabulous looking set, it reminds me of 19th century issues:

Here are some latest additions to my collection:
1978 Futebol De Ouro Socrates (his true rookie card and the only one featuring him while playing with his first team Botafogo) http://media.tumblr.com/d735dad4f3cc...6ol1t0ntzh.jpg 1987 Copa Uniao Romario (at last...! This one was tough to find) http://media.tumblr.com/4101cbdf235d...2SD1t0ntzh.jpg 1902 WM Clarke & Son Steve Bloomer (really like the looks of this) http://media.tumblr.com/fb5107c4af62...JZm1t0ntzh.jpg |
Very nice Ioannis! I have always liked the Romario and great Socrates!!

Since seeing it, I have always loved this card. It may not be the most valuable card in my collection, but it is certainly a favorite.

Do you like any teams in Serbia? I have a liking for Red Star as I saw them in Belfast, Northern Ireland in 1987 (1-1 friendly versus Glentoran) and then in the European Cup versus Portadown (4-0 to Red Star in second leg). In particular, almost a quarter of a century later, I am proud to have seen that great Red Star side. I have match worn shirt of Prosinečki but, unfortunately, from his days with Real Madrid. Would love a match worn Red Star Prosinečki or Pančev shirt. |
That Cruyff is awesome!
These aren't vintage, but I fell in love with this set when I first saw them and happy to add these. http://i1199.photobucket.com/albums/...s%20soccer.jpg |

Antonio Valencia Match Worn Shirt
I picked this up at an auction held at my alma mater. General Motors donated this and there weren't many other soccer fans, so it ended up in my hands. It is pretty cool to have a shirt from my favorite team and from a match vs. Real Madrid, but I am going to sell it. I don't have any idea how much something like this is worth. I have seen some ManU shirts sell for anywhere from $800-$3500 plus, so I put it on ebay for $3000 obo. Any guidance on value is appreciated.

However, generally, the market for modern day (ie recent seasons) match worn and match issued shirts is relatively cool - in part due to the large number of fakes on the market which, ironically, depress the market in its entirety, even the authentic ones. The other aspect that subdues prices is simply the large number of shirts available due to, in many instances, "multiple" match shirts being issued per game. It's a very nice shirt and would have demand but I think the price currently set is on the very high side. For example, I purchase Real Madrid match shirts but could not imagine paying a four figure sum unless it was worn by a high profile player in an important game - but maybe that's because I am more focused on older shirts. Anyway, not meaning to discourage you at all. It's a good shirt and best of luck with the sale :) |
