That was one of my 3 favorite Lots in the Auction. I went after the oversized White Sox instead, but think you may have gotten the true prize. That is undoubtedly Matty portrayed, and the graphics are stunning. Congrats on a great pickup!

Here's what I came away with...

Position Pins

I was able to get these Position Pins. For some odd reason I just think these pins are awsome. I will add them to the other ones that I have. When I get them framed I will post a picture.

Mark,

Congratulations on adding a piece from your Holy Grail list (and mine;)). The White Sox pennant is among the best pieces in that niche of the hobby.

Jeff,

Your pennant is a killer as well...thanks for posting your winnings fellas.

Mark & Mike,
Just curious, what year/era did the White Sox pennant originate please?
Thaks!

Probably overpaid, but in the long run this is one of the best shots of Ruth in Boston ever.

I don't think it's possible you overpaid for such a piece. The price was higher than I could afford, but I still recognized it as being reasonable.

Scott:

We probably cannot pinpoint a year, but early to mid teens would be a very good guess (based on the style, graphics, and oversized nature of the pennant). This makes it 100 years old, so I guess we should be forgiving of it's minor condition flaws.

I did once see it portrayed as a 1919 White Sox Pennant, but that was either wishful thinking (or more likely an attempt to drive up the price) by the Auction House selling it. In 20+ years of collecting pennants, I have seen only 3 of these. Incredibly, one was NRMT, one was trashed, and then this one (which falls right in the middle).

It went strong but it is really a nice shot of Ruth pre NYY. Nice pick up as I was in the mix for awhile.

Thanks Mark! Congrats on some more stellar pickups for your awesome collection.

When you say it went strong are you referring to any shenanigans?

No, it went above my max on it and I think the market for pre NYY Ruth items including cards are going through the roof these days.

My favorite postwar Cleveland Indian. As an added bonus, the ABL's only full season was 1961-62.

What an amazing shot of Ruth, Splinte1941. I think you made out quite well and still would feel the same if it went for twice as much. Babe's smile is GOLDEN.

Bravo!

I completely agree with the "Boy Wonder". Congrats on adding such an outstanding photo to your collection. I do believe that your Ruth photo would be a cornerstone in any Baseball memorabilia collection!
