I'm not a big T206 back collector, so it's interesting to me to see so many of them slabbed by PSA with the back showing on the front of the slab like the ones in Jason's post.

Is this something you just have to ask PSA to do when you submit them? They look pretty cool that way, especially the Cobb back.

Thanks,

AndyH

IMO this is not a good indicator of the state of the hobby. The way people do business has changed - the internet through its auctions and stores are the way now. Declining show attendance is a false indicator. (Similar to saying that the closure of 511 Borders stores shows people don't read anymore...nope...they just get their reading material from more modern sources, including the internet).

You're spot-on Blair.

If those photo's were during business hours it looks like a small crowd.

Yesterday was my first national, so I have nothing to compare it too. But in my opinion, there weren't many people there. I'm guessing it was because it was Thursday and there were very few autograph signers. I'd expect it to pick up the rest of the week.

That said, I spoke to a handful of dealers and all said they were doing well. One dealer in particular said that he already had his best National and he'd been doing it for ten years. His sales were mostly on signed memorabilia as I recall.

Nice to get a glimpse of the show. Thanks to those that posted pictures.

Would be nice to see more memorabilia.

Next to the Ty Cobb back is one of the brown OM overprints. Could someone take a better pic of it? :D

Watch the video link I posted earlier. It shows quite a bit of the memorabilia.

Heh yea at this point I just want them to bring up as many new players as possible so I have more names to add to my 2012 card list

Team has quit on Acta though unless they finally gut Shapiro and his flunkies not going to make a bit of difference

Lots of T206s but did anyone pick up any caramel cards from the E90-1, E92, E93, E94, E95, E96, E97, E98, E99, E100 sets? Were there any there? Prices? Especially curious about the E94s and E98s (in light of the Swamp Find).

ullmandds 08-04-2012 09:34 AM

Bob...my 6th sense tells me there were no e94's...other than the ones that have been rotating on and off ebay...and the few e98's present...besides the swamp find...were grossly...grossly overpriced!!!!!

Jon, that cabinet of the three Pirates looks like it could have come from the same estate I got all of mine from.

Seems that way at all card shows. Every year they are getting less traffic and smaller.

traffic seemed pretty strong to me, in comparison to the last few years.

Bob, I can't comment on the E94 or E98 since I wasn't looking for them. I was specifically looking for E93's to build my set. I was especially hoping to find a poor/fair Cobb or Wagner, but had no luck. In general, there was not a huge selection. I don't remember seeing any of Chance and only a single example of several other cards. Prices in general were above recent auctions, but you could talk dealers down below the current buy it now prices. I ended up with a Leach (SGC 40), Jones (SGC 20) and Mathewson (SGC A - blank back).

The T-E ratio had to be 100-1 or more.

Thanks for the photos Lyman and Brett. Large Ass(ortment) Herzog had a nice breakfast with my table-mates and myself one morning but mainly kept to himself until the Dinner. At the Dinner he was on the podium next to the speakers the whole time. For those that don't know (and no one that came to my table knew) the reason he is called "Large Ass" isn't because he has a big rear end. It's because on the back of the card there are paper remnants over part of the word "Assortment" and all you can see are the words "Large Ass"......I will be updating the other Bucky thread soon and looking for a member to take him on another trip. His log book has been updated and Bucky is hanging out in North Texas at the moment. Actually he is watching me type this and saying he is ready for some lunch!!
