Awesome scans, guys.

I collect Cardinals team sets as some of you know. I was attracted to this thread because I have every 1969 Topps Cardinals card except for the 1969 Topps 4-in-1 with the Cardinals Rookies and Carl Yastrzemski on it.

Kirk,

Your pics of your "stash" brings back great memories. Add a few pieces of orange Hot Wheels track in the background and I would feel like I was in a time machine. Thanks for the trip down memory lane.

Jeff

Well said Jeff.

I remember those Hot Wheel tracks. In fact, I had a pair of Hot Wheel pants back in the day.

Posts like this keep me excited about collecting.

Well, I got the poster, now I just need to add a Super ! Sorry for the not-so-great pic, but it is minty fresh !

Any 1969 collectors out there ? In addition to Topps regular sets, I also collect any insert or test set they put out for each year. The 1960s and the early 70s were golden years for Topps test and insert issues. For 1969 there were Stamps, 4 in 1s, Deckle, Supers, Decals and even Bowie. There were good variants in the set too, and several different backs. But the set missed a few good men.

It's a cool set. I've seen some PSA 10 Decals on Amazon recently.

Sorry to dredge up an old thread, but I've been looking for a Mamas and Papas card for 2 years since this thread and finally got one from Sweden. See what you put me through, Kirk!

Thanks for bumping this thread Troy, I picked this up @ The National this summer and had been meaning to throw it in this thread.

Congrats on finding the M&P card!

Great year for the Mets, for baseball cards, lots of cool inserts

Heres a group of Willie McCovey cards..all deckle edge..some OPC, some Proofs, some..whatever..and a cool white letter McCovey

Anybody need these ?
Id love to swap them

ALR-bishop 02-25-2019 04:21 PM

A sad tale indeed for Wagner . He at one time sponsored a clothing line for which his advertising slogan was "get your glad rags from Daddy Wags"

Sad, but interesting article. IMO, with Wagner's 69 card, it looks like some minimal airbrushing was done to the hat as the uniform otherwise appears to be a 67 Indians uniform.....see the Duke Sims card below for comparison. In the late 60s, the odds are that most any image used by Topps was recycled.

Harliduck 02-25-2019 07:31 PM

Looks to me like the 69 Wagner is a touched up 67 Wagner picture...here is his 67 Topps card. Might need to edit the article...of which I really enjoyed. Sad to hear how his life went...reminded me of J.R. Richards...

Hi does anyone know how the 1969 white letters went out or where? 4th series, right? I heard it was because Topps started a second print location and the white letters plate setup made it through edit/review/proof to prod.

On a note on this topic, one of my biggest lot finds came from a smaller lot purchase via eBay where a seller had a 1969 ~125 card lot for sale...pic had 10 cards and 1 white letter. When I received there was a note that read " I had these for 50 years, enjoy".. They were all 4th series and had about 8-10 white letter variations..many near mint...no #567...but still a great find. Had me thinking the master sheets had to be this way vs running out of x color ink etc. Shipment came from northwest Florida...but the cards might not have originated there...not sure if this helps in the white letter distribution/print mystery.

Best,
Ed

Thoughts on the 1969 Topps baseball stamp full panels. The vertical panels are so much harder to find compared to the horizontal. Not sure why Topps cut the panels in the horizontal format and vertical format. Maybe the full sheet was just loaded into the cutting machine in a different direction

Adding this here... (Apologies if not the best post for it) 1969 topps white letters seem to have been proofed that way.

I didn't write about it in that post but I don't believe the white letters were printed in a different location than the corrected versions. Topps did have multiple printers (at least two and possibly a couple more) at the time but it seems to have just been a production error.

I have to say of all the Topps vintage sets, this one has grown on me the most.

stlcardsfan 08-27-2020 12:56 PM

I agree Dave. Apparently others also since that Hunt Auctions set went for $11,000 the other day!
