1893 (believed) Army Navy Football game played on The Plain at West Point. Only the 4th time these two teams met.

Babe Ruth, Ted Williams and Eddie Collins photo

I picked up this nice image in a small lot of Ted Williams wire\press photos recently.

This one is different in that it has a "Sporting News Collection" www JohnRogersArchives com sticker on the back instead of a news service stamp or paper caption.
Are photos with this sticker generally regarded as Type I if all else looks right?

The writing on the back of the photo appears to be in original ink. The glue residue is on top of the writing. It does not fluoresce under black light.

According to newspaper articles, Babe Ruth was at Fenway Park on September 12, 1947. Paul J Maguire was a photographer for the Boston Globe for 50 years.

This image is similar to one used for 1959 Fleer Ted Williams card #75

Pick up a Pee Wee Reese DQ Statue this week. I like to pick these up now and then and feel they are an under appreciated collectable from the 50s. Can't seem to get a clear photo with the iPad.

Jonathan,
I'd have to agree with you on the comment about the iPad picture quality. It looks like a sand storm in the middle of the Sahara desert. :D

Nate, that's an awesome Murray bat. I believe he is the greatest switch hitter of all time. I'm sure Mrs. Murray enjoys Eddie's knobs as well:o

Took a ride to the Jersey shore today.

1941 Playball pinball head. Wish it was all there but this will be repurposed for a bar also a 1908 trophy 10 1/2" by. 9" both bats have rings. From a. Delaware Catholic Church league. And the last one a Baltimore Babe statue. This was made by Susan Luery in 1993 as her first shot at getting the honor of designing the statue for Camden Yards. This design was turned down so she made 30 bronze statue that sold for $3500 and also a molded urethane edition of 2000 for $300.00 the bronzes only sold under 20 and the resin ones didn't do much better and stopped production under 100, this is number 8 of the resin. It is 23" high on a 7 x 15 oak base

Forgive me, since I posted this on the championship ring section, but in case you have not visited over there, I picked up a player's World Series 1996 ring.

Only players received rings with a large center diamond. Almost all rings sold from 1996 have been the front office version without the large center diamond.

Bench coach Don Zimmer was incensed when he received his ring and it did contain the large diamond.

He never forgave George Steinbrenner for that.

Are you going to her slabbed or just get a PSA/JSA sticker put on her belly?

parker1b2 01-18-2015 10:46 AM

Congrats Chris!!!! That's the best pick up. My son just turned 2, and fatherhood is the greatest thing.

Chris - Congratulations to you and your wife. A pick up to be proud of for sure.
She's adorable.

MurphUSA - Great graphics on the 1941 Playball pinball glass. It's a beauty.
Terrific trophy too. I'd say you had quite a productive day.

Congrats Chris! An addition to the family is better than any memorabilia pickup one could offer, hands down.

Anibal Sanchez game used rookie cleats and glove 2006

6 Attachment(s)
Just picked these up from another net54 board member. Thanks Giovanni!

In his 2006 rookie season, Anibal Sanchez joined the ranks of immortality by pitching a no-hitter on 9/6/2006 against the visiting Arizona Diamondbacks.

I had the opportunity to meet Sanchez shortly after the end of the 2006 season and got him to sign a rare season ticket to his rookie no-hitter.

These Sanchez rookie game used cleats and glove are a neat compliment to one of my current favorite pitchers on my hometown Detroit Tigers. :)

YankeeFan 01-20-2015 11:13 PM

Wow Scott! Great group of Sanchez items.

murphusa 01-21-2015 10:22 AM

great that you can read his name, class act by a current player

Seems like it has been a long time since I have been able to post something on here and the last time the autograph guys were brutal on a honus wagner signature. Anyway had a pleasant surprise thumbing through a scrapbook I bought from ebay. Two 1947 AP wire photos of the world series. Love the shout with Jackie Robinson celebrating.

Sanchez was great when he was on the Marlins in terms of fan interaction. He signed for anyone and everyone and was very friendly towards fans at spring training. Good guy in my book.

Recently Bob Freedman reached out to me regarding my possible interest in an original pre-MLB debut photo of Roberto Clemente. I thanked him and explained that I was terribly interested. However such an image was currently out of my financial reach. Without prompting or request Bob made my ownership of this photo financially feasible. I have to believe that it is one of the earliest images of Roberto in his Pirate uniform. Thanks to Bob's generosity this 1955 Type I photo of 20 year-old Roberto Clemente at his first Pirate Spring Training arrived today. I am thrilled to add it to my collection. He also included a free Burke image of Cobb. Thanks Bob I am more grateful than I could possibly express with my limited vocabulary:o

vintagesportscollector 01-22-2015 09:20 PM

Beautiful image Mike ...and Beautiful generosity Bob!

Scott Garner 01-23-2015 04:51 AM

Wow, Mike! What a terrific Clemente photo for your Pirates collection.
Well done!

Scott Garner 01-23-2015 04:56 AM

Jack, Jim, Gary & Packs,
Thanks for your comments about Anibal Sanchez. It's nice to hear others regard him as a good guy in the hobby.

I love watching him pitch! It's like watching a surgeon operate.
If only the Tigers can give him some run support...
It seems that they always saved that for Max Scherzer games. :(
Maybe Anibal will get those runs in 2015?

Bobmc 01-23-2015 09:02 AM

Boundless.........

Scott,
The vast collection of no-hit memorabilia you've amassed is just amazing. Honestly, I don't know how you are able to contain your excitement enough to sleep at nights.

I look forward to reading and seeing your future posts....keep 'em coming!

...modern stuff :)

Prior to attending last year's NFC Championship Game, the hugest sporting event I attended was the 2004 NLCS game where Houston beat Atlanta to win their first playoff series ever. I sat right behind the Astros dugout, so got to really revel in the celebration. Us Astros fans have not had much of that over the years.

Yesterday I won this 2004 Astros Phil Garner road jersey. Garner was one of my favorite Astros back in the early '80s and hit about half his home runs when I attended, which was kind of weird. Other than Carlos Beltran, he's the guy whose jersey I would want from that season. Not sure when it was worn, and I guess it's possible it's not really a gamer, but for now I'm elated to finally pick something up related to that season:
