I haven’t posted an addition to my 1971 Bucs collection for quite a while. For some reason I have been in a bit of a dry spell. I know my focus is a bit narrow and probably only interests me but what the heck.

Great stuff, Mike! And I think you're very lucky to have a "narrow" focus. It lets you concentrate and I'd bet you have a pretty specific wantlist.

It's been a pretty good month and the Nat'l did yield some items for me. That said, most of the pick ups came via ebay or in trades...a couple might be late July additions but who's counting.

This first batch are the 19th Century additions...

Very nice Yogi glove.
Curious to know the value.
I have had one in my collection for many years (photos below).
Not sure if mine is the same year as yours. Any information would be appreciated.

From the Walter Alston estate, I am not one for these kinds of pieces but I really liked the look of this with all the players names and team logos on it.

I'm guessing the years are close, but not identical.

I have the same tray, Bob. Mine was issued to Juan Marichal. Marichal and Alston are both engraved next to their respective teams. There are 32 names, total. I wonder if there are only 32 trays out there? Is there an AL version as well?

71buc needs this. Besides being 1971, the Pirates had the most NL participants...Murtaugh, Stargell, Clemente, Ellis and Sanguillen.

P.S. my tray is much more tarnished. I sent it to a professional and even he couldn't do much with it.

Rob, thanks for the info, I was wondering the same thing myself (if there was a AL version) and would love to own them as a pair.

The piece that just arrived and officially caps one the greatest months of collecting I have experienced. It's a scale paperweight commemorating the pennant of 32. The scarcity of this piece, combined with the form, and subject make it a Cubs/Figural collectors dream. It's quite substantial and the ball is just shy of official size. I acquired it in trade from a distinguished long time advanced Cubs collector and gave a grail level item from his long time want list in return. So it was a great day at his house as well:D

I posted this on the main board page August pick-ups, but realized I may get a better response here, I think this is where the photo collectors would hang out. I am not that knowledgeable on photos, but I am a big fan of Southern Association memorabilia. This is what I think it is:

Circa 1913 Chattanooga Lookouts, the photographer checks out, Wiles of Nashville, Tennessee. The Tennessee State Library has a collection of 60 items from Marvin Willard Wiles, photographer, who lived from 1883-1957, Wiles Photography Studio (Nashville Tennessee). The back looks like it was removed from a cabinet mount. The listing said it came from the Fred Graf estate, he played for Chattanooga from 1913-1920. I think Graf is the guy back row fourth from the right, and I think Kid Elberfeld is front row second from right. I think this is the 1914 team.

So, what do you think? Does this look like a type 1 photo? Can any of you identify the players (I suck at photo i.d., they all look like multiple players from the era). I'm just looking for opinions, thanks for any help with it.

(full disclosure, I lifted the e-bay image from the auction)

Bob Feller by Gregg Packer

1 Attachment(s)
I just visited my good friend Gregg Packer top pick up this beautiful artwork he did on my Bob Feller signed home plate.

I bought the plate in an auction on the cheap. It was just so plain that I knew it would be a great candidate for Gregg's talent. We discussed a few different ideas but settled on this classic shot of Rapid Robert from 1937 ( I believe from the 3 stripes on the socks). The picture was black and white but we managed to find the proper uniform colors from a book he had. I really think it came out great. You see certain images in black and white so often that when someone puts it in color it looks like something completely unseen.

Very cool. Feller was a great representative and advocate for the game. While his autograph is so common due to how prolific a signer he was, I never tire of seeing his signature and it reminds me of what a great player and guy he was.
