Yep. Bowman was based in Philly, so used Shibe Park as the convenient location for many of the AL photos. Kind of like Topps being in NY - if you look particularly at the 1970 Topps set - almost all the National Leaguers were photographed at Shea Stadium.

Picked up ten 66 high numbers, including toughies, for cheap at a show today. The White Sox Rookies at .75 was the cheapest, and Clarke at only $8 in VG/EX was the most expensive. Clarke, Norhtrup and McFarlane are listed as SP's and Snyder has a rep as a tough one, or at least it used too. Love the design of the 66's, but man these 7th series cards take a long time to find at reasonable prices!

Did you pick these up at the Sacramento show?

Great card, Topcat!

When I got back into collecting in early 2016, that was the number one card I pursued.
It took a bit to get my copy but I was pretty happy when I did. :)
(PSA 3 older flip)

Thanks irv. I just got back into it as well and had to be patient to find a copy that looked good and was actually affordable. Now I just need a nice black back to put next to it.

Nice card. I always wondered what the little flesh colored nodules were in the background, especially the one seemingly coming out of Warren's neck to make him resemble Frankenstein. Just something on the wall behind him?

I had this card as a kid (probably in the early 90's) but traded it somewhere along the line. Mine was in much worse shape, with heavy creasing across the length of the card horizontally near the bottom.

Yep! First time going to it, pleased there was a decent amount of vintage post war

Jason, very cool that you're collecting the 59F Ted set! It took me about 2.5 years to slowly complete 79/80 of a "collector grade" set. Then I sold some stuff and bought a PSA 1 of the #68 short print. I really love that set and it's the biggest I've ever completed. (I'm not usually a set guy).

I had been sitting on about 25/80 since college. What got me going almost 30 years later were three things--

1. Unexpectedly stumbling on 5-6 more at my local card shop.

2. Having a couple years to kill before I'm ready to throw down on Ruth and Gehrig.

3. The awesome PBS documentary that just came out.

Am getting to around 70 shortly if a couple current bids hold up.

Did you know David Ortiz owns the production company and commissioned that documentary?

I did not!! Saw Big Papi name in credits at the end but didn't know the connection.

I picked these up over the last couple weeks. The 56s are for my 56 HOF set that I will never complete. The 62 AS and 63 Fleer are upgrades for those sets. The 58 AS is for my 58 AS subset

Congrats on the Clemente rookie, David. A classic! That is one on my list for sure.

Nice other pickups, gentlemen.

I'm late to the party, so congratz on your '52 Mantle! The mother load of all cards.

Thanx Kris for the Clemente comment.

. I'm not even bothered by the (MC) either as it is a common issue with these. Don't see too many card shops anymore and to have a shop here in town have one is pretty rare in its own context.

jason.1969 08-28-2018 12:27 PM

Now up to 71/80 with yesterday's mailbag. Some creases and soft corners but am happy to be building this set on a very small budget.

A bit of an oddity. My binder has 9 pages, and each is missing exactly one card.https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...1afda39d2e.jpg

Grabbed this up from a fellow board member. Slight tilt aside, it's centered pretty nicely...

Been working on the Clemente basic the past couple of weeks. I've always admired him and picked up his RC from a board member in the Spring and decided to grab all the basics.... have three more that should be arriving soon, but here is what has arrived:

Jack Morris RC. I'll never forget the 91 WS where Jack ptiched ten scoreless innings against the Braves. WS MVP. Loved him when he played for the Jays as well.
Deserving HOF, imo.
