Pete, big congrats on the postcard. One of the coolest items in our hobby (IMO).

Ryan....just WOW!

I am sorry to follow that amazing post card with these, but I am too excited not to post my most recent pickups. The (Detroit) Wagner and the Doyle come from the collection that was shown in the Detroit Institute of ArtS for two years. Needless to say, I am tickled. I will try to post bigger/better pics later.

Good Lord, all 3 of those at once?! What a pickup day!

Rhotchkiss 06-10-2020 06:51 PM

Thanks guys. Yea, my head is spinning. I just looked back on the thread - June has been awesome. There are some really beast cards picked up by board members this months. Lots of rare backs.

Holy Shit Ryan!!!...Jerry

Congrats Ryan. Not many have completed the set, truly impressive.

(Congrats, my friend.)

Blunder19 06-10-2020 07:50 PM

Ryan,

ill come out of the woodworks to congratulate you on that one... well done my friend!

great pick ups! very happy for you.

brass_rat 06-10-2020 08:05 PM

Congrats, Ryan! That was quick...

ValKehl 06-10-2020 09:51 PM

Wow Ryan, just WOW! But now that you've scaled Mt. Everest, what's left to conquer? :)

I don’t think he has completed the set. He just likes Wagner and Cobb, major hof’ers, and rare backs/ combos. Ryan, correct me if I’m wrong, but I don’t think you have any commons unless they have a truly tough back, do you? And that is really sweet! Congrats, man.

ahumes13 06-10-2020 10:15 PM

Great job on nailing down the Honus, but an ever better job on the Doyle!!! Genuinely awesome!

pcoz 06-10-2020 10:40 PM

Ryan, CONGRATS!!! Pickups of the year by far!!

wow. congrats man. THE grail.

PS will trade you - take my wife.

She's not vintage; only 29 so she comes from the junk era. good centering; and rounded corners; with very good eye appeal for the age. rare back!

Rhotchkiss 06-11-2020 07:41 AM

Thats Funny Joe. Thanks again all. Ed (Hi!), you are correct that I dont have a T206 set. But now that have the big 4, I think its time to endeavor putting one together.

Picked up this T222 Fatima Jimmy Archer on eBay recently. I now have both back versions for Archer.

Tough to find in this nice condition!

Oh, happy day!

Nothing compared to the Cobbs and other high dollar items on here, but a great mail day for me!

Picked these up from another local collector that contacted me. He told me that he had three Fort Worth cards and a price. I picked them up without even checking to see if I needed.

Welp, two out of three were needed. The third, my copy was graded so this will go into the page. I can't imagine this going any better.

I'm now at 14 of the 16 for the Fort Worth Panthers team set, just need the Morris and Weatherford cards.

Very awesome cards this month. I had a great day, both of my purchases arrived today. Not only did my first Cobb arrive today, but my first honest-to-goodness card of Gehrig arrived today as well from the BST. Both are very eye appealing. Going to send the Gehrig off to SGC along with a couple other vintage pieces in need of slabbing.

thecomebacker 06-15-2020 10:53 PM

Very Sweet CJ Joe Jackson! Very nice condition and color. Looks more like a 4 than a 2.

Been tinkering with this graphic of the scarcer variations in my set for a while, and now pleased to complete it.

At 518/520 on the Monster in PSA 4-5, and it's been a heck of a fun ride. Lots of good friends made along the way.
Nearly there now...

After some of the cards posted in this thread this month; this one is almost a letdown. but I've fallen smitten with this set.

packs 06-16-2020 11:57 AM

Picked up this possible M116 proof of Barney Pelty. I've seen suggestions that these cards may have come from an advertising piece, but I believe them to be proofs. If this card came from an advertising piece, the piece would have had to have been huge. This card originally appeared in a lot of 65 other "proofs". A poster that size would have been beautiful:

I don't think a Christy Mathewson is ever a letdown. I don't have anything with his name on it! Great pick up. Congrats!

Hmmm. I rarely post anything on this side of the Net54...
I am really starting to enjoy these little cards. Maybe a little too much.

Usually, I collect game used bats.
I do not think this is an addiction I should be starting...but they are so colorful...

Here are a few additional new pick ups. I have too much free time, with all my NYC customers closed down/boarded up, I’m playing online poker and buying cards.
