I have not much done nothing in 2021-22 dealing with my bladder cancer doctor visits kept me busy.
I did acquire a few Big Heads early in Jan. and did nothing until latley this Nov, i decided to scratch a itch and on a spur got a 101 Jordan, which now see i have no interest.
I tried very hard in REA to gather more Big Heads, but failed in a war.
So now.....
2023
Goals are no where??
1. Keep going on Big Heads
2. Sell the 101 Jordan
3. Seek what i have always like- t206 Cobbs & Ruth Goudey
4. or something special/rare
5. low on list is a 49B Paige, 52T Pafko (both low ends)

KCRfan1 12-23-2022 09:21 AM

Fight the fight Chris!

Wishing you well and good health. Many of us on the board have had a go around with cancer and we are pulling for you!

dealme 12-23-2022 12:09 PM

I would like to pick up a '54 Banks to complete my '54 Topps set.

jh691626 12-24-2022 05:54 AM

My main goal is to keep finding, collecting, (and probably totally overpaying for) high grade, unusual Pele cards from the 50s and 60s. There are so many different Pele issues from various countries, they are often hard to find, and I weirdly love them all.

Barriers to my goal will be my personal financial situation and my ability to be distracted by REALLY COOL baseball items.

John V 12-24-2022 06:26 AM

I am reducing my collection by slowly selling off items. Slowly.
How to price items is an ongoing challenge.

echelon0911 12-24-2022 06:43 AM

Honestly my goals aren't too lofty. There are some key cards that have eluded me that I hope to find:
- 1954 Red Heart Stan Musial and Red Schoendienst
- 1933 Goudey and 1935 Diamond Star Rogers Hornsby

I also look forward to continue building Cardinals team sets from throughout the years.

I guess finally it's time to start trading/selling some items to make room for more good stuff!

I'm in the same boat -- planning to spend a LOT of time on eBay sold sales and the quarterly Vintage Beckett guide pricing things up. Good luck to ya!

MuncieNolePAZ 12-24-2022 06:50 AM

I would like to pick-up one of the WaJos in my want list. Most are highly unlikely to impossible. Maybe 3 are just pretty unlikely.

T205 Walter Johnson Hindu
T206 Walter Johnson Portrait Brown Hindu
T206 Walter Johnson Hands At Chest Cycle 460
T207 Walter Johnson Napoleon
T214 Victory Walter Johnson
T215 Type 1/2 Red Cross Walter Johnson
T222 Fatima Walter Johnson
1908-09 Rose Co. Postcard Walter Johnson
1914 Texas Tommy Type 1/2 Walter Johnson

I also want to acquire a Pop Lloyd card from his playing days.

nebboy 12-24-2022 08:31 AM

My goals this year are not hard to find and 4 of 5 and should be in budget.
(1) Like to also continue to reduce my overall collection down to core cards.
(2) I'm always picking up items at sells/auction or where ever to sell and use funds for a nice card. If I can sell off all these things I should be able to make my biggest buy ever (white whale). So sell sell sell
(3) goal is to buy no more than 5 cards this year including:
--old judge Omaha n172 low grade I don't have - grade a,1,2
--Sam Crawford - D,E,T,W - grade 2, 3, 4
--Ernie Banks Topps RC - grade 3, 4
--T206 Brown Cubs on shirt - grade 2, 3
--white whale card of a Hof player from 1st hall of fame class -

alaskapaul3 12-24-2022 11:40 AM

Just one

An E107 Doyle is my only goal. Is this too much to ask? .....Probably!

Happy Xmas to all!

Paul

Sell a special Ty Cobb card to a worthy collector to be cherished for a long time.

egri 12-25-2022 11:21 PM

I'd like to break the losing streak I've been on for my signed 1953 Topps project; I haven't added a new one since February. I've learned from experience that at this point, setting a number goal is unrealistic, so for the time being it's just be closer to completion than I am right now.

wnp22 12-26-2022 02:45 AM

I had a pretty good run at the end of the year for my Memphis collection, picking up three cards after not adding any others in 2022. Hoping to carry that momentum/luck into the new year. My pre-war goals include:

1) Pick up at least (2) T210/T211/T213 Memphis cards (fingers crossed)

2) Add a Coupon or Hindu of Cranston/Carey (already got the easier legs of the CHOP run completed)

3) Grab a couple lower-grade T206 portraits

4) Familiarize myself more with “E” type cards

5) Decide how I want to store my Memphis cards. Currently have raw, PSA, and SGC examples, and would like to pick just one so everything is nice and uniform

riggs336 12-26-2022 09:21 AM

Continue to work on completing various E and W sets. I spent my entire collecting life ignoring E's and W's and now I'm paying for it. Literally.

Exhibitman 12-26-2022 09:37 AM

I'll add a few wishes to the list, all are virtually impossible:

1959 Cleveland Browns Team Issue Jim Brown

1952 National Tea Al Rosen

1964 Penafiel Sandy Koufax

1930s Exhibit Bronko Nagurski

1961 Bell Brand Jerry West and Elgin Baylor

1983 ACC Michael Jordan

Joe Louis signed Exhibit card

jethrod3 12-26-2022 05:02 PM

Maybe 2023 is the year I finally pick up a T206 Mordecai Brown....or complete my Topps 1955 baseball set, or come to think of it, my Topps 1971 baseball set!

peanuts 12-26-2022 07:31 PM

A few goals:

Broadly – be selective with purchases. Obviously can't lose the fun of collecting and buying a card for the joy of it, but I want to be sure that I'm being conscious of how I'm building my collection.

T206: Add two off backs (probably Tolstoi and Am Beauty, but I'm hoping to catch a Carolina Brights on a weak sale). Finish Providence Greys subset!
HOF RCs: Focus on adding some of the cheaper junk wax era RCs to keep card expenditures low
The Chase: Continue to buy and sell to raise funds to add a Red Cobb. I've been on a good streak and the goal is getting to be well within sight.

kmac32 12-26-2022 08:50 PM

Hopefully fill in a few holes in my T207 Cubs front/ back set (mainly Napoleon backs), pick up A T205 Hindu backed cub (Kling or Pfiester), find the few missing E121 Yankees of Giants I an missing, start up an E91-B Cubs set.

pitchernut 12-27-2022 08:14 AM

Pass the baton

Find someone with deep pockets to pass the torch to.

cjedmonton 12-27-2022 08:33 AM

1. Finish a Topps era HOF pitcher run. All 40 representing a different year with no rookies. Down to Roberts, Paige, Feller, and Bunning.

2. Find a nice low-mid grade Jimmie Foxx + auto. Still regret letting a PSA/DNA signed 1929 Kashin get away. A tremendous deal for that lucky buyer.

3. Greatly reduce random impulse buys (basically anything not above or Kershaw)

4. Appreciate what I already have

Jobu 12-27-2022 11:03 AM

That's very nice of you, I'll be waiting for your email.

My goal is to have fun collecting.

StraightRaceCards 12-27-2022 11:46 AM

2023 goals

This year will be a simple year for me, hopefully.

The two biggest pickups will be my wife & I’s 3rd child, coming August, and working on finding a new home! Big year ahead!

Card wise, the main goal is a T206 Speaker, and hopefully getting that deal worked out now. Other than that I’ll try to pick up a minor HOF’er at a show and enjoy some other things like Secret Santa etc.

bbcard1 12-27-2022 12:14 PM

I will add my annual "get organized" hollow promise.

Tere1071 12-27-2022 12:22 PM

Retiring in June after 36 years working as a teacher. Two goals: finishing my 1970 Topps Baseball card set and finding another job, hopefully hobby-related. That will help me continue upgrading my current sets and perhaps, get the money to purchase a 1969 Topps Baseball set along with the stamps set in the booklets as these were the first packs that I ever purchased.

Phil aka Tere1071

Complete 1953 Bowman Color, 1971, 1972, 1974, and 1975 Topps Baseball sets under revision as the budget and wife allows

Under construction:

1970 Topps Baseball - missing over 100 cards, mostly after #450 and the three insert sets

1971 Topps Coins- 107/153

1973 Topps Baseball 659/660, missing #305 Mays

1974 Topps Baseball Washington variations

LOL, been saying that for close to 20 years now. Still far from it.:)

Natswin2019 12-27-2022 03:25 PM

I have a few different goals for this up coming year,

My main ones are
finish my 1955 topps set (need 4 more)
finish the virginia SL'ers sub set (need 4 more)
add a few richmond t209 and t210 cards

my like secondary goals would be to
add more washington t206s
add more RVA pre war cards outside the t209 and t210s
add more cards off my random cards I want list

jbsports33 12-28-2022 10:15 AM

Grading some cards that have been just sitting for a few years and focus on prewar!! too much of the other stuff came around the last few years

DeanH3 12-28-2022 11:43 AM

No goals for 2023. If 2023 is anything like 2022, I doubt I will be adding anything of substance. I feel that I'm in a bit of a collecting rut when it comes to cards. The escalation of prices for top tier HOF'ers, Ruth, Cobb, WaJo, Matty, Gehrig, etc., has essentially priced me out of cards I would have liked to chase. That has led to a lack of interest and excitement I once felt. I have no plans of completely quitting. I guess it's more of a collecting hibernation, if you will.

However, I will enjoy visiting daily and appreciating the awesome additions that will be made by the folks here throughout the year.

Prince Hal 12-28-2022 02:01 PM

I finally landed a Highlander Rose PC and next on the list for my type set are an E107 and a Big Head. I need a Chance to close out my CJ Yanks.

Also looking for type cards of Grover Cleveland Alexander and Eddie Plank along with a T205 Joss for my HOF set.

All that being said, having fun is the ultimate goal for sure. So far so good!

Happy New Year everyone!

Hirbonzig 12-28-2022 03:17 PM

Adding more Addie Joss cards to my collection as I live just 20 miles from his birthplace (Woodland, WI).

dfletch00 12-28-2022 03:18 PM

may be the same this time next year but in no order .....

'54 aaron to complete my aaron high grade base run
'15 CJ Jackson (decent SGC) or '14 im not picky
proper storage and display of the good stuff I have
pair down the stuff i don't want

Cheers
Darrell

Continue to buy or trade for 1956 salesman samples and other oddities from the set.

jason.1969 12-28-2022 04:30 PM

Complete some Dodger team sets that are in varying stages of done.

T205 - 13/14
T206 - 26/27
1935 Goudey - 2/3
1939 Play Ball - 3/19
1940 Play Ball - 12/18
1952 Bowman - 3/16
1972 Topps - 31/32

Touch'EmAll 12-28-2022 05:16 PM

What Dean said, same here. I can let go a few hundred here and there, but nowadays that gets me a nice eye appeal mid-grade Hank Aaron/Mays/Nolan Ryan - woo hoo.

Jeff1970Red 12-28-2022 05:44 PM

2023 goal

Haven’t posted here in some time. I’ve actually had a nice run in the vintage, pre modern & modern soccer market. I’m looking for e90-2 Wagner this coming year.

Otherwise, just hope to pick up a couple of cards that I enjoy. For post-war, would love to finally add a 54 Bowman Ted Williams.

Got the Blackburne EPDG, so one of my 2023 goals is done already. Let's hope for more progress in 2023...

donmuth 12-29-2022 06:48 AM

Goals

For 2022 my goal was to acquire at least 24 T206's to average 2 per/month. I am right at that goal and hoping to pick up 1 or 2 at the Nashville card show this weekend. I also had goals of focusing more on HOF cards including picking up at least one Mantle and making progress on my '55T and '65T sets which are nearing completion. I did get a 60s Post cereal Mantle, a few 50s-60s HOFer cards I've wanted, made an awesome buy on a Mike Schmidt RC ($2.50!), got a George Brett RC, and a few 65's this year, but didn't make a dent to the '55 set.

For 2023...
I was going to up my goal to 36 T206's, but I think I had better stick to 24 for the year. Getting 2 per month is still a decent goal given prices and my desire to collect raw cards with off backs if at all possible. Of those 24 I would like to pick up 3-4 HOFers and increase my off backs particularly polar bears, sovereigns, and old mills.

Other 2023 goals include getting another Mantle or two, getting Ozzie Smith and Rickey Henderson RCs, and focusing on picking up more 50s-70s HOFer cards - particularly Banks, Brock, Mays, Musial, Williams, Aaron, Clemente. Maybe I will try to get another prewar HOFer card ('33 Goudey or '34-36 Batter Up or something?) too.

CancerForCure 12-29-2022 09:59 AM

The only cards I'm looking to buy next year is the E91 Rube Waddell and Cracker Jack Sam Crawford. My dad had to sell his cards years ago to pay bills and Ive felt guilty for it since. I want to make sure he at least has those 2.

As for me I might finish my 1975 Topps Set and pick up some cheap 90s inserts of my childhood favorites.

metroac 12-29-2022 01:40 PM

I'd really like to find the Gehrig Salutation Exhibit to finish my set and the 1935 Wheaties Series 1 Dean brothers card, also to finish a set. And a Patty Berg in Action to finish the '52 Wheaties set. I'll also be working toward a master set of '62 Post football - need some CC13's and Top3's.

BobbyStrawberry 12-29-2022 01:48 PM

To spend less money on cards! :D

here2havefun 12-29-2022 04:01 PM

Goals for 2023:
- Black Cat Mystery #50 (comic book)
- 1947 Bond Bread Jackie Robinson Portrait
- 1915 Cracker Jack Ty Cobb

inceptus 12-29-2022 04:52 PM

T206 Goals:
-Hoping to convert some modern cards into a decent Matty portrait, because that thing is just a work of art.
-Sitting at 42 Brooklyn off backs-- I'd like to make it to 50 this year.

jjbond 12-29-2022 07:09 PM

Started 2022 with nothing, and now settled on a few collections that should keep me occupied on ebay looking for obscurities. So 2023 will be to focus on making a dent on these:
- Federal League material
- Baseball-themed Victorian trade cards
- 1910s "Baseball Lovers" postcards
- N48/N508 Dixie Cigarettes/Virginia Brights/Sub Rosa cards

Start My T206 Team Set

Hello, I am new to the site. I have collected cards since the eighties and never collected prewar cards, but recently started reading some historical articles about my favorite team the White Sox and specifically the 1906 Hitless Wonders. I decided that modern collecting seemed to scattered and I wanted to be more focused in my collecting. So, in 2023 my goal is to start collecting cards of the 1906 World Series Chicago White Sox players. I just purchased my 1st T206 card of Jiggs Donohue. Can't wait to learn more about these cards and players.
Cheers,
Matt Cortese

Welcome to the forum Matt and good luck on your collecting goals in 2023.

Fred 12-29-2022 08:40 PM

Maybe complete the 1940 Play Ball set after 40 years. It's been one of those sets that I keep overlooking because of other interests. Less than 20 cards to go (albeit, Jackson's one of them). Most of the high numbers checked off the list already.

Scan as much of the collection and catalog it better than it is now. I've been slowly adding to the spreadsheets through the years but it'd be nice to just complete the effort. If for any reason, so that the family has access to a quick reference list of the junk there will be available for sale after I kick the bucket.
