Easy grid today except for the Cardinals/Padres. It took me a while to think of a Padre that I knew had left, but didn't know where, and Thomas Howard was a complete guess, I only knew he was a Padre, not sure where he went after that.
I was a bit shocked by the low percentages for Williams, Joyner, and especially Sandberg. |

Bobby Grich never won a Gold Glove

Finally got one. Probably the only one I will ever get, as I am terrible at the teammates.

This was mine today. I thought I did good to use 9 Hall of Famers and have them all be 2% or less.

You did a lot better than I did, although I was surprised to see some of these guys with such low %'s. |
I finally got a Zero score yesterday.
My method: I play twice, first through my phone, where I depend on my actual on-the-spot memory to get qualifying answers, but sacrificing the lower scores. Once I completed all 9 on the phone, I can see the summary, then get access to all the possible answers...I know, I know, but, even with this 'insider-trading' information, I can still get stuck with 3% like I did today with Jason Isringhausen for 300 saves by an Angels...thought for sure it would be much lower since, he only played for them in his last season, and already had all the saves he would ever get....but, some others must have thought the same way. Anyway, after 'harvesting' what I think will be the 'rarest' answers, I use them on my PC-based grid. Yesterday's choices: TBR/CHW-JHAN MARINEZ=0.03% TBR/DET-JASON JOHNSON=0.05% TBR/PIT-CHAD QUALLS=0.07% MIL/CHW-FRED TALBOT=0.05% MIL/DET-ED ROMERO=0.04% MIL/PIT-JOHN GELNAR=0.06% A-S/CHW-JIMMY DYKES=0.04% A-S/DET-GEE WALKER=0.02% A-S/PIT-DAVE GIUSTI=0.02% 732 others scored zero out of 118,152 grids played. |
Part of the fun I've had playing this is the names of some of the players I research:
A few days ago, I used Mysterious Walker. Today, I chose Phenomenal Smith over Ice Box Chamberlain. They sure don't have nicknames like that anymore... . |
I will admit to spending way too much time on this game.
There is a serious recency bias in the answers. Almost anyone pre-war will give you a good score. Because I have a lousy memory and can't keep track of the peregrinations of random relief pitchers I will often miss one though. My best score so far was 39, and I'm happy when I can keep it under 100. |

I agree about the bias towards newer players. My answers will pretty clearly tell someone that I grew up during the junk wax era.
|
I do well until the post 1976 teams come into play, especially in the AL.
|
I love a game where there is a good chance that Tommy Davis or Orlando Peña will be an answer

Scored Zero for the second time today!
thanks to Ollie O'Mara and others just as famous. . |
Got to zero again today- relying on my go-to guy, Mysterious Walker.
I'm going to have to learn more about him...LOL . |
Same here - thanks, Sammy Strang!
|
Just tried this for the first time today. Fun! Having to be perfect with your guesses makes it quite a challenge...
|
My best score today was 59...difficult when there are only four choses for two of the blocks...even Richard Hidalgo score a 5.

Troy Glaus=19; Ken Griffey, Jr.=11; Frank Robinson=23; Eddie Mathews=1 I now play three times: once via my phone(154); once on the website (59) & once via email on my PC(62). My lowest 'scores' on those you asked about were: Albert Pujols=11; Sammy Sosa=5; Reggie Jackson=4; Eddie Mathews=1. . |
Got a perfect grid today for the first time. The "All Star" row made it pretty easy but I'm still irrationally excited, lol. Rarity score 257. Not sure if that's good or not.
*Spoiler alert* my answers |
Tricky one today. You had to name pitchers that had 200 strikeouts in a season for the Cardinals or the Orioles. The answers I chose for each team both had a high of 199 strikeouts in a season. Bummer

I tried Mudcat for the Twins (142 high) - then Kaat- Carlton & Mussina for the others. |
I was shocked at who never got to 200 K’s for the Orioles, or for that matter, the Browns.
|
Today, I got to use Bobo, Ice Box and Bones Ely. The names you find among the best part of IG!
|
Today's is a really good one to go for a low rarity score on. I got all 9 with a rarity score of 17.

for some reason, I thought Chipper had won a GG. Nope. Used only Braves or ex-Braves...scored 106. . |

Nice score with the Braves/ex-Braves restriction! |
Quote:
Because of my 'system', I was able to get a score of 11 restricting to Braves or ex-Braves with the exception of Dodger A-S which I used on my Cousin Whit Wyatt. On my third grid, I got it down to a score of 1 with all connecting to the Braves. It does help, of course, that the Braves have been around since 1876. |
I got it perfect today for the second time ever. Rarity score 104. Best of all, I got to use a 19th century player for the first time!
(Spoiler alert!!): My grid |

Hardy Richardson, nice!

I read a story about him once that stated he 'invented' the way shortstops play. Not sure how true that is, but it helped me choose him. . |
I completed the football "bonus grid" today. Rarity score 37! I've never come close with the football grid before...
No luck with baseball - I couldn't think of anyone who played for Toronto and Cleveland :( |

Joe Carter doesn't ring a bell? After starting with the Cubs, he and Cory Snyder were the S.I. cover-boys when so many were predicting a World Series in their path, then he won the '93 series off 'The Wild Thing'. . . |

It helps to learn the teams of some guys who played for tons of teams as you can use them quite often and they tend to be rare picks that not many people think of. E.g. Edwin Jackson (14 teams!), Dotel, Kenny Lofton, Rickey, Orosco, Mike Cameron.

I do these things strictly from memory - no look-ups, references, etc. besides what's in my head. Blue Jays and Mariners present a serious challenge, and if any teams newer than that are included, I am helpless. Here's my best lately, with the old school teams (Sept. 13.)

AWESOME! I got a 64 today (9/15) using only my memory. . |
Today had 2 columns of awards and 1 for the Phillies so I was able to get all 9 for a change.
|
I'm not sure when it got added, but there's now a link that let's you go back to grids from previous days so you can try ones you missed.
|
Another good day to go for a high rarity score!
Got a 14, as always not using any resources other than memory. Spoiler: https://imgur.com/5q2HQ6e Took a while for me to come up with anyone besides the obvious pick for Royals HOF. |
