Picked up my first short print, ( offer I couldn’t refuse) , but concentrating on the first 49, which soon will be a tough road as it is.

Mike, you are a card-acquiring machine! I enjoy seeing all your pickups.

Thank you Daryl, never should have bought that re:LEAF book, and being a set collector ( now 3 ) and a specific player collector, there is no hope of the machine stopping if good deals keep popping up.LOL!

Jeff, thanks for IDing the VERY TOUGH ad backs of your M101-4 Cobbies. Congrats on having these spectacular cards in your Cobb collection!

Thank you, Val. I'm not sure there are many others who collect this group to this level of obsessiveness, but I always seem to find one other person during the auctions :)

I regrettably missed a lower graded example in REA a few months ago, and was thrilled that this one popped up in Scott's auction.

Hi Jeff! Congratulations on the pick up! Wasn't there a Cobb in the almost complete set of Gimbels backs that REA sold maybe 10-15 years ago?

No, the Cobb was missing.

Jeff: I checked and the card was actually part of the find but it was broken out as a separate lot. I thought the fellow who won the large group had also won the Cobb but I see that he didn't. Bad for him, good for you. Great card!
BTW, I love that McGraw. E107s almost never come that nice.

More for the dugout, but I don’t think Ty will fit in there. I absolutely love the 1949 Leafs in SGC holders, the black really makes the colors pop.

Only one today……but it is a cool misprint or miscut on the back of the card, 1949 Leaf Ewell Blackwell, with his name and a partial #117 Joe Gordon on the back.

Finally arrived, i have completed the N162 set (all 50 cards, not just baseball). These have gotten so tough to find at all, let alone in nice condition. Have been building a set with clean fronts as my primary concern, so was thrilled with this card (wasn’t cheap). A multiyear endeavor.

hammertime 10-16-2025 03:05 PM

Amazing achievement! Congrats!

Roughly 25 years ago, I began collecting the rare, very-small 1910 E222 A.W.H. Caramels 12-card set of Virginia League minor league players. VA League cards interested me because I was born in and have lived my entire almost 82 years in VA. I also collect the VA League players in the T206, T209 and T210 sets.

I've had 9 of the 12 cards in the E222 set since I got my 9th card in a trade with a Net54 member way back in 2017. So, you can imagine how thrilled I am to have won my 10th E222 card (see pics below) last night in Scott Russell's The Collector Connection auction! And, kudos to Scott, who had this E222 card on display over the weekend at the Chantilly Show, for letting me come to his hotel near Chantilly this morning to pick up this card from him before he departed for home in PA - thanks again, Scott! Also, thanks to Net54 member Tom A. for making this card available in Scott's auction.

The 2 remaining E222 cards I need are Revelle and Ryan, who both also appear with the same images in the T206 set. Anyone knowing a collector who has any E222 cards, kindly ask them to get in touch with me, even if they have no interest in parting with their cards, for I would love to at least see pics of the cards I don't have.

As a Richmonder, I love cards like this. I’m also surprised that Virginia based cards don’t turn up here too often. I’m sure they must be hidden away in someone’s closet or attic.

There are certain collectors in the hobby that I still get excited when I have something they want, because their collections are so advanced (and specific!) I think this is only the second card I've ever sold you Val, and the first one was from before I started the auction so at this pace I'll have something for you around your 90th birthday!

Matty arrived from the recent October Goldin auction today. Redoing the baseball room soon and this will be another great part of a Matty display.I know this isn’t an image of when he was active( or even alive at that time) , but , at 9 1/2 x 13 1/2 it is a beautiful display piece, the photo here doesn’t do justice to how great and clear the colors are. It is the whole magazine, October 1949.
Can’t wait to get started on putting the display together.

Look at the clarity and corners on that CJ O’Toole.

Jim, I hope you do come across some E222 cards that have been tucked away in someone's closet or attic. Your "neck of the woods" is a likely place for such a find. In fact, it could be that some descendants of Arthur W. Havens still live in the Richmond area and have some of these A.W.H. Caramels cards!
