That’s you, btw.

No one was comparing capitalism to socialism, just the statement that wealth inequality makes a country great. I’ll put you down for duh+1 on that.

Thanks for the lesson.

The guys are dropping $350 a clip for a lotto ticket. I don’t get it.

Amazing the come back kid after millions in his cards stolen.

I dont recall seeing anything like it.

Ya sorta have to do the dog years conversion to calculate the value of the cards that he had stolen. I saw the prices on the photos he posted. They were hyper inflated, which is my being kind.

Shoeless Joe Jackson, the single most overrated and overvalued player in MLB history. Has anyone ever gotten more mileage off a cute nickname than this guy? Don’t get me wrong. He was a great player.

Watched his YouTube clips. Interesting..

So you admit he was great so what is the basis for your conclusion he is the most overrated and overvalued? Also would love to hear what mileage he got off of his nickname.

Maybe this guy? (Although some may not consider it a 'cute' sobriquet?)

I would point to the 1915 Cracker Jack set. His card sells for more than several players in that set that had better careers than he did and also didn't cheat at baseball. Among them Ty Cobb, Honus Wagner and Tris Speaker. Jackson cards sell for crazy money and yes it's not really something anyone can prove but I do think the cutesy nickname plays into it because it invokes an image of simpler times and people associate it with it nostalgically. Ultimately a card's value is what it is and collectors seem to just adore this guy and pay insane money for his cards.

The issue with Joe Jackson is the number of cards he has in the market. No one would pick him over Cobb or Wagner, but they have a lot more cards. .356/.423/.517 OPS+ 170 says he was a pretty good hitter. That is 12th all time, 8th if you exclude Negro League Players and steroid users.

Still an amazing card and I have only heard positives about him.
Checking his website has some really amazing cards he gets and flips

I think it’s more the Field of Dreams & Eight Men Out effect than a nickname, same goes for rest of the Black Sox.

Yeah I agree with that. The field of dreams thing is big. Eight Men Out was an ok movie but field of dreams was better than ok and mythologized the man in a way that clearly resonated with collectors.

Hard not to cringe having his character bat righty instead of lefty as Jackson was. Costner bungled that one big time, especially being a fan. He also switched his throwing arm also.

If you pick up the Old Mill Jackson, maybe he'll knock a few bucks off this one:

He must be making a ton of money on those spots he sells for his breaks I assume? I haven't figured out how it exactly works. Is it live so everyone sees it? Is it all on the up and up?

I've watched one, and it all seems to be on the up-and-up. They don't need to do anything shady because, as you've surmised, the profit is built into the price of the spots. As long as the spots fill (and they do), they make money.

I just hope that I don't read an article about some shipping company that loses a $1m JJ card in transit.
