Picked these up recently. Only 12 left to get and I'll have the full '59 through '68 Venezuelan run of Braves base cards.
|
Wow, Ryan, those 2 PSA cards look a hell of a lot better than their technical grade! I'm guessing the Roach has back damage, but with a front like that, who cares??

Picked up this really nice 1964 Venezuelan Cubs Team Card. Had almost given up finding one this nice!

Also, I know there are threads about this but does anyone know how to safely crack PSA cases? I actually have a setup for my VZs and I don't need the cases. Double also, once I crack them I should contact PSA and have the cards removed from the pop report, correct? |
|
To crack a PSA case, buy a pair of "snips" at any Home Depot or the like. These are used to cut metal ties around bundles of lumber and they're perfect.
2. Use snips to snap off a healthy chunk of one of the top corners 3. Take the smallest flat head screwdriver you own and slide it into the gap you just created with the snips. Rotate the screwdriver to break the seal in that area, then move down, repeat, and keep going around until the seal is broken all around. Do NOT push in the screwdriver, or you might slip and gouge the surface of the card. Simply insert the tip and rotate it. Hope this helps. And yes, I always save the labels and mail them to PSA with a note when I've accumulated a few. There are many of us who appreciate your efforts to keep the pop report as close to accurate as possible |

I'm definitely all about doing what's best for collectors, so removing them from the pop report is a must do. This is for anyone out there that has VZ Braves cards and are looking to sell. This is what I need to complete my run... 1959 Topps Venezuelan 104 Del Rice -- Milwaukee Braves 126 Eddie Haas -- Milwaukee Braves 128 Bob Hartman -- Milwaukee Braves 157 Felix Mantilla -- Milwaukee Braves 165 Bill Bruton -- Milwaukee Braves 188 Juan Pizarro -- Milwaukee Braves 1962 Topps Venezuelan 30 Eddie Mathews – Milwaukee Braves 63 Tony Cloninger -- Milwaukee Braves 100 Warren Spahn -- Milwaukee Braves 158 Braves Team -- Milwaukee Braves 1968 Topps Venezuelan 110 Hank Aaron -- Atlanta Braves 221 Braves Team -- Atlanta Braves As always, condition doesn't matter, just as long as there is no paper loss in the front. :) |
1959 Spahn V
What is the DOB on the Spahn Venezuelan ? Does anyone know if it is always the same ?
|
I really like the '64 Venezuelans because the backs are so different (the cartoons are easier to see). Here are the Koufax's with original artwork. Also gotta love the '67 if you're a Koufax collector.

I'm 11 cards short for a complete Braves Venezuelan Topps Base card run. Here's what I've been able to collect so far...
|
Looks like you're skipping the 67's. I am too. I'm not convinced they were a Topps issue.
|
Ya I the they're sport graficos. I do have a Rico Carty and I notice a Torre is for sale right now on eBay, but ya I'm convinced they aren't topps.

Also I noticed a lot of my Venies haven't been shown here yet. Here are some more of my 64's.

Wow, there is some definite inconsistency in low grades with PSA. I love that the Scott is a 2, Bell is 2.5 and Williams is a 1.
|
Quote:
Edit to add: the Torrez RC, mccarver and cleon jones are all the first copy of each graded by PSA. The Amaro 1.5 is the highest graded ("pop 1, none higher"). I love the Hart. |

Hey, everyone. I'm still on the hunt for Braves Venezuelan cards. If you happen to have, or know anyone that might have, the cards listed below I am definitely a buyer. Just send me a PM. :)
1959 Topps Venezuelan 104 Del Rice -- Milwaukee Braves 126 Eddie Haas -- Milwaukee Braves 128 Bob Hartman -- Milwaukee Braves 157 Felix Mantilla -- Milwaukee Braves 165 Bill Bruton -- Milwaukee Braves 188 Juan Pizarro -- Milwaukee Braves 1962 Topps Venezuelan 30 Eddie Mathews – Milwaukee Braves 158 Braves Team -- Milwaukee Braves 1968 Topps Venezuelan 110 Hank Aaron -- Atlanta Braves |
I don't have any 59's or 62's (no Yaz) otherwise I'd help you out. Do you really have all the Aarons except one?? That's awesome!
Are you collecting the league leader cards? I know Aaron and Spahn share some Venz LL's with other HOFers |
I posted my 68 Venz bill white and O's rookies before, but just recently got them back in PSA slabs

I'm not collecting LL's. I'm specifically collecting only base cards. The addition of LL's would grow my list exponentially, not only in VZs, but also OPCs, and American Topps. I've already gone away from my original plan and have collected rookie cards of Braves that wouldn't be considered base cards, so adding LL's would just be too big a task to undertake at this time. Maybe after finishing my run I might look into LL's. |

Posted the same post on what I needed over at Yahoo and found someone who had the '62 Mathews and Braves Team card. Picked them up at a decent price, probably overpaid a little, but my '62 run is complete, so good day for that. :)
|
Congrats Ryan, would love to see them once they're in hand.

Those look great to me! Lately I've devoted time and funds to my John Hannah player collection, but me thinks I need to pick up a Venz or 2 here soon.

http://www.net54baseball.com/showthread.php?t=226925 I got a couple '59s in the cue that I need. The seller doesn't want to sell outside of eBay cause he's new to eBay and he's from Venezuela. Just waiting for him to list them and they're mine. Once I get them, I'll only need 6 more to complete my run of VZ Braves base cards. |
This is for all the VZ collectors out there. There's a guy on ebay selling two different '59s of Don McMahon. One he says is "carton clear" and the other "carton dark". I'm not sure what the difference is. Here's the links if anyone can shed light on this...

That's what I was thinking, but I wanted to make sure before I considered bidding on the item. If there's anyone who can second the opinion about it being a cream back I'd be very much appreciative.
|
Were there only back variations on the 59's, or in other Venz sets as well?
|
...

Ryan: looked at the examples shown in the links, and my first thought was "Google translator-esque", kinda like when jokes/phrases don't always translate (read: are not as funny/clear) when or if they're translated from one language to another, and that prompted me to do an English/Spanish internet search (Google IS my BFF - sometimes - and yes, I probably DO need to get a life), but I happened to have a few moments to kill, so the timing was good... anyway, here's what I came up with: "carton", Spanish English Dictionary (Granada University, Spain), 7.7 (n.) = cardboard ; pasteboard ; paperboard. cool stuff either way, and something I more than likely would've never noticed (or even looked for) when going thru a stack of 59's until now, although I'm certain I will in the future - I learn something new every day, and that's never a bad thing :) DS |

I think I'm just gonna skip variations all together. I can neither confirm nor deny that that the reasoning money related. :o

I just picked up some more 62's including #199 & 200 and a few HOFers. Not great condition but I'm working on both raw and graded sets.

Wow, Carlos, starting with some serious star power! I don't own any 62 Venz cards yet
|
Lots of '59s on eBay lately. I blame what's going on in Venezuela right now. It's a shame for those that live there.
|
Thank you and yes for sure 62 is my favorite year of the Venezuela I missed out on Aparicio hopefully one comes up.
And i saw that I was wondering have you guys bought cards from those individual before? |
Yes, he posts lots of nice oddball stuff. I have bought a lot of the 62's from him in the past but they are usually lower condition.
The Aparicio doesn't come up too often in any condition (but luckily still affordable). Quote:

Yeah I was thinking the same thing about the prices been kind high but thought that was normal especially since there isn't many seller out there.

How collectible are the stickers? I am looking to purchase a collection that has 3 of the 1974 bobby cox stickers and 1 1976 bobby cox sticker. Are these $1 stickers or considerably more. Trying to come up with a fair offer for the lot I am trying to buy including these. Thanks for any info.

Used my eBay bucks and some other hoarded funds to land this card for my Yaz master set and my 68 Venz set:
http://i1199.photobucket.com/albums/...AS%20front.jpg http://i1199.photobucket.com/albums/...0AS%20back.jpg This is my 5th Venz Yaz card, but my first one that's a "solo" card, without other players on it. Pretty rough, but happy to have it. Only 5 graded higher. Some paper loss on back, but not enough to obscure his face. I'm chipping away at a couple of the subsets within my 68 Venz registry. There are 7 Yaz cards in the set and I now have 3/7. And there are 10 All Star cards and I now have 3/10. |
Great card! Keep 'em coming.
I need to post the '59s I got. I'll do that tomorrow. |

I've had these for awhile, but I've been traveling a lot so I'm finally getting around to posting them. Just 4 to go and I've completed the entire base VZ run.
|
Wow, the Rice and Pizzarro are really sharp!!
|
I got them from a new guy just posting on eBay. All of his '59s are in great shape. There's another guy posting a bunch of '59s, but his prices are so high it feels more like he's just showing off his collection.
|
Cool. I don't collect 59's or 67's. I collect 64 and 68 mostly, but I sprinkle in 60, 62 and 66.
|
No Yaz's in those years? ;)
|
No Yaz in 59. He has a 67 but I hate that set.
|
As do I. I seriously question whether it's a Topps product. So much so that I've refused to collect the '67 set for my run.

Happy to say that last night I picked up a '59 Hartman and Mantilla and I have officially completed my '59 Topps Braves VZ run, unless you wanna count gray backs LOL.
Now all I need is the '68 Aaron and I will have completed my entire VZ base card Braves run! :D |
Wow, only one card from complete?? That's amazing!
