Two old time favorites and the Ruth that I got in the mail today thanks to a great board member. The CdV is of Walter Avery of the original New York Knickerbocker's.

I somehow missed your post the other day, but just now caught it as I scrolled through again and want to second t206hound - that's an amazing Boilermaker card! I don't have access to a scanner currently, but need to show you my autographed Ray Schalk B/W photo in a Purdue uniform (from when he was a baseball coach there in the 1950s). Go Boilers! Purdue '92 |
More Boilers here than I thought! Awesome!
Here is a link to my Purdue QB card collection. (Only posting a link because it is off topic...) Purdue QBs |

Sorry, had to go with FOUR! Vaughn is my favorite E98 pose.
|
Thanks everyone, all of these post display cards that are cherished by their owners. Each poster has a special interest that drives their collecting and should be applauded.
And yes Jim it is a SC 150, the bluest and best registered one I was ever able to find. It is even more impressive in person. As you well know all 150 series are much sharper registered and bolder colored than their 350 counterparts. I once had a known dealer doubt me on this until I picked about 20 in a row from the front only in a binder of T206's he had. I would also like to show a couple of Walter Johnson cards and some Buck Weavers, but I'll hold off for a while. Scott |
Three Favorite Signed Cards

Scott no need to hold off great cards. Thanks for sharing.
John P.S. Scott is that the same Plank from SCP years ago curious? |

John, yes that is one of many SCP Planks I have landed over the years.
At your request I shall share two W. Johnson's one of which I feel fairly certain is the only one known, the tough TTT back. If not the only one extant, certainly the nicest. Scott |
Oh wow Scott those are just breath taking! Amazing cards Scott thanks for sharing. Currently chasing the Goodwin Johnson now, and after seeing these makes me want to change my mind :) these two are just dead centered and perfect!
Thanks again for the post. Cheers, John |
Wow !
All I can says amazing !! Maybe after the National I will have a few to share.
|
Beautiful cards Scott. Thank you for the share!!
|
Thanks again everyone
Perhaps one day we should play "post your _____(insert player name)cards" game like we used to. I have scanned many more cards since those days.
Scott |
Scott,
My jaw is on the ground!!! Not that your Planks and Wagners sucked, but that TTT Johnson is out of this world!!! JimB |
enjoyed everyone's posts but just awesome stuff from scott! didn't think i'd see the day where you can make 2 hobby heavyweights like wonka and jimb jaw's drop and take their breath away in back to back posts. WOW
|
This thread just keeps on delivering. Thanks, everyone, for posting your scans!
If anyone out there is feeling a little humbled or hesitant to post their 3 faves, please don't be. It's more than just the dollar amount or rarity of the cards you choose, it's all about your favorites and everyone else getting a glimpse into your collection. Scott, regarding the cards you posted... not only are they iconic and legendary by themselves, but your Wagner & Plank have to be two of the best looking versions within their assigned grades. And the E107 Plank... even though a "3" is considered somewhat high grade for that set, that's a gorgeous VG 3! Just incredible! |
The other three

A couple favorite E cards.
|
Come on, Jeff, it's all part of my master plan. Board members will feel sorry for me that I don't have enough money to buy a decent scanner and in turn, I will get better deals on B/S/T transactions.
However, since you offered, I'll take you up on the new scanner, please ship to: XXXXXXXXXX Thanks again! |

Nice 53 Musial, Todd; my 2nd favorite issue of his. I got mine when I was a kid; had him sign it in the late 1980s at a card show in SF.

Great Pics of Walter Johnson.

Open question on Walter Johnson
Perhaps I should ask Hank, but why in the world was Walter not included in the W600 Sporting Life cabinet series?
There are a myriad of guys that only played a few games and Walter started way early enough to be included in the last 3 years of production. Anyone?? |
Thanks for the tip on the thumbtacks, Jim. Think I'll just have it laminated ;)
Adam nice sig on that '53. Stan just exudes class. |
maybe he was Scott and the card has just yet to be found.

nice Clint!

Echoing what others haver said - just amazing cards from end to end, and certainly one of the most enjoyable threads of the year so far.
Here are my three faves today Don't think we've seen any T207's so far (what a surprise) ... someone has to stand up for that, right? http://i186.photobucket.com/albums/x...7/73bd82b2.jpg and Pirates because that's the only other collecting I do ... http://i186.photobucket.com/albums/x...r/02a89217.jpghttp://i186.photobucket.com/albums/x...e/83ff3e37.jpg |

W600s
Walter Johnson, Tris Speaker, Joe Jackson, Joe Wood, and Rube Marquard all started their major league career in either 1907 or 1908. They were not included in the SLC series. However only Johnson and Speaker became established regular players by 1910; the last year SL tried to revive their give-away cabinet card program by adding 57 new player names to the availability list. Johnson, Speaker and surely many other newer players were overlooked. We will never know how SL chose the players to be included in this series.
In researching the Sporting Life Publishing Company I contacted the Philadelphia Historical Society, the City Directories and the museums and libraries. Their only help was to furnish the Company's address changes through the years of its existence and the names and titles of the senior officers of the Company. Some of the original content for my 2006 OC article was removed by the editor due to space limitations. |
