Brian

Thank you Brian! Nice to get some of the toughies out of the way all at one.

This CdV appears to picture women in uniform circa 1865-69. The player in the middle of the bottom row is holding a bouquet. The player on the left in the bottom row appears to be wearing an earring. I have never seen a CdV picturing women players. This photo predates any other women and baseball image by more than a decade. Any thoughts?

Other than it's really cool, no comment. It's a fairly spectacular piece. I haven't studied early baseball cards of women so can't really comment on that aspect of it.

The two bats being held by players seated represent the long and short of it. Some of the caps worn by the players scream late 1880s or 1890s. They must be hand me downs.

Really cool card gary. Nice pick up!

I am having a good month adding to my Southern Leagues. Thanks to the board member that sold the Foster and Shag. Also a Zimmerman Sporting News Supplement in real low grade from the same board member. Nice buying from good guys on here. This Smith is really amazing, the scan doesn't do it justice, scanning through slabs never looks quite right to me, they always come out a little fuzzy.

Thanks! After chasing the proofs forever I've scored two this year.

Through research I was also able to pretty much verify that the subject is actually Thomas McCallum and not Thomas McCullum.

Brian, nice card! I have always loved the T207 Butcher as it as close as we get to a mainsteam tobacco (T205-T207) card of Joe Jackson*, mentioned on back as the "slugging wonder". Honestly they thought to mention him on the back of Butchers card and mentioned how good he was but didn't make a card of the guy? That has always puzzled me!

*(I don't want to get into the T202 card! :) )

Jobu 10-10-2014 09:45 PM

Does anyone else see what looks like an S on Butcher's jersey above his right hand? Is there supposed to be something there?

Brian Van Horn 10-10-2014 10:15 PM

Looks like a bit of dirt to me.

One of the many mysteries of the T207s along with no Mathewson or Cobb and the list goes on.

rhettyeakley 10-10-2014 10:30 PM

I've always thought of the T207 set as a kind of "addendum" to the already produced T205 and T206 sets they had already made as it included so many "new" players. Obviously they included players in T207 that were included in the other sets like Walter Johnson, John McGraw, Roger Bresnahan, etc but the fact that so many "young/future stars" were included it almost has the feel of a set like the Topps Traded sets from the 1980's. With that being said the lack of a Joe Jackson card always seemed like a glaring omission.

nice cards all

I've been unable to participate too much in the market of late due to financial reasons, and thus have spent more of my time doing research. I was very happy to win an entire run of March, 1916 Chicago Examiner newspapers, all bound in an oversized and heavy book. For those who recall, the Chicago Examiner put out an entire set of m101-5 in sheet form, as posted to this board some years back by David R. http://www.net54baseball.com/showthr...light=examiner This is the only known sponsor of this set to issue in complete sheet form, to my knowledge anyway. The ads for the set, which was also offered in card rather than sheet form (though none have ever surfaced with an Examiner back), ran several times in March and April, and this bound volume has more than a half dozen, including one with Matty-- many several inches squared in size. I will scan them eventually, once I figure out how to place this huge tome on my scanner bed to properly capture them. Here is a generic shot from the ebay auction:

Cool pictures and sold as what they are, reprints. Nothing wrong with them as long as you know what you are buying (as you did).
