Actually, according to a couple members in that thread, the card was an issue. But I hope they're wrong, and that you enjoy your new Cobb/ Lenox. I think that's a great card. :)

And I hope that we never have another carnival sideshow like that thread.

Ah yes, that's why I took the card to the National and had SGC check it out. They said there's absolutely nothing wrong with the card and they stand by their initial grade.

Aaron, great stuff man! Very cool.

AJ, that Aaron is extremely nice. Congrats! Tom (Redzone) has great stuff and is very reasonable.

Attachment 284289

As many others, Pelty is one of my favorite cards. I love hot weather, and he seems to be holding a ball on the surface of Mercury, ready to melt ...

.... fun stuff, Scott

calvindog 08-17-2017 12:41 PM

Real happy to have added this one. When I sell off my collection, I'll be keeping all the 1/1 PCs; this is one of them.

Sweet pickup, Jeff. A candidate for grading for sure.

orly57 08-17-2017 02:06 PM

It's a PSA 5. Just can't see it in the picture.

wow...perfect for your collection, Jeff. I feel like whenever I see a card from that set I'm seeing it for the first time...they are RARE!

Aaron, when we had our all-too-brief reunion at Tom's table, and I snagged a T206 Cobb bat on PSA3, a card which had become my National Quest, you quietly pulled the red bkg Lenox Tyrus out of your back pocket About all it lacked was a brown Lenox back, which probably is impossible anyway. Man, did Red Zone have some Cobbs and that set of '14 CJ's was tasty. When I thought you were going to buy the Jackson, I had to walk away. Keep in touch.

Here's a cool one. It's a 1944 Snapshot of Joe DiMaggio taken in Honolulu, Hawaii during WWII when he was playing for the 7th Army Air Force Baseball Team. Thanks Stephen!

That's an awesome photograph. My grandfather served in the AAF in the Pacific Theater but he couldn't hit as well as Joltin' Joe, so he saw a little more action. :D

Jumping in with Dan. Don't want to get left out of the potential Gehrig exhibit type run up on this one. Plus it's just a cool looking card with the white borders and b/w photo..not to mention the cool loaf of bread on the back. Jackie says: "I get a double play in Homogenized Bond. It tastes grand and packs plenty of energy."
Jackie most definitely never said that. lol

Gobucsmagic74 08-18-2017 08:46 PM

Decent card AJ!!! 😆. Seriously though, great pickup. Not sure about the Gehrig Exhibit style run but a '51 Bowman Mantle run in the short term seems fairly reasonable and if not you have the true RC of possibly the most influential athlete of all time. Win, win

ajjohnsonsoxfan 08-18-2017 08:50 PM

Well we all can't have SGC 4's. :-)

Had no idea this card existed until earlier this week. That's why I love reading these boards!

Great looking photo...and a Foxx for my Delong set.....about 1.5 generic letters on the back are missing from paper loss :)....

What a phenomenal card, Al. According to Old Cardboard's HOF Rookie Cards: "only one copy of the card is known to exist and it remains in uncut sheet form." How many of these have been authenticated & slabbed by the TPGs?

Scocs 08-24-2017 10:14 AM

Clearly that is incorrect information. A true Martin Dihigo rookie card graded by SGC exists outside of the uncut sheet:

Jason, I'm glad you got it. That auction had so many cards, I decided I would focus on the E104 & E94s above. It was really hard not to go after any T210s, so glad to see you with that one.

Jason 08-25-2017 10:58 AM

Mark, Ed thank you both! The auction did have quite the selection of types available. And after a quick glance at BR I agree, Viox was a very good hitter at all levels of pro ball. Hope everyone has a great weekend.

OK.... there was only one sheet known (and I own it)... BUT there is a single copy of the the Lloyd graded by SGC (none by PSA).... one DiHigo by SGC (none by PSA) and one Foster by SGC (none by PSA)... there are two Marcelles that I know of....

I own the DiHigo, Lloyd and Foster and the sheet. Still on the look out for the Marcelle. I do not believe that the Larry Brown or George Scales have been seen as singles (outside of the sheet).

By the way, I have the sheet listed on eBay now that I have the individual cards. Best, Al

Thanks Scott....

Unsure, but I would imagine so. It is the only company that has a holder that is big enough. I typically prefer SGC, but they did not have a holder and I was nervous that I would damage it if I did not protect it, so I went with Beckett.

Perhaps if there was an uncut sheet of a small issue that would fit in a holder for PSA and / or SGC they may do it, but I am unsure. I can't think of a sheet / issue that would fulfill those parameters, but perhaps someone else does.

Great Speaker, Greg

I've frequently seen a 1930's version of that, but have never been tempted because it wasn't 'career contemporary'. I assume yours is a lot more scarce.

Great additions to your Delong set, Leon.

Those are two of my three favorites from the set and the only two I also own...the third is the Gehrig which may as well be a '52 Mantle to me.

GregMitch34 08-26-2017 09:07 PM

Raymond, the other card with same image is a 1934 R.J. Hill or some such, so, yes, much later than this Susini one...
