Wow, Adam...

Those photos are all crazy-good images of those icons. Butkus looks just insane enough to rip your head off, and Wilt looks like he'd prevail, even if the entire defense isolated on him.

And that Cubbies "7 Dwarfs" Catalina shot is priceless. Love the Bill Russell and Joe Louis shots as well. Great stuff!

Regarding the Dempsey/Gehrig Photo.... It would be awesome to drive by 41 East 42nd Street (presumably in NYC) and see what resides there now!

Lucas00 08-11-2023 03:47 PM

I like to pick up photos that are obscure. Whether for my PC or not, I can't pass up this kind of image.

Chris Mahoney only played 3 Games ever in the Major League. In 1910 with the red sox he lost a start and threw a save. He got 1 hit and 1 run as a batter.

Beautiful name header and stamps.

Well, here is a view from the rooftop with Babe Ruth sparring McGovern; Ruth also trained there. From a Mutoscope reel:

I just found this among my father's items. He and my grandmother passed away close to two years ago. A photo album of my fathers time serving in Korea (approximately 1971) was among my grandmother's stuff. I don't know who the others are, but my father is kneeling bottom left. The gentleman in the middle is wearing a shirt that says Korea, 122 Signal Battalion, in which my father was an officer (ROTC Eastern WA University 1966 - 1970). I would love to find one of those flannels! The Bayonets. No writing on the back, sadly.https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...9a4a4c60cc.jpg

Found a scan of one of my favorite Baseball-related photos: Cleveland Groundskeeper Harold Bossard clearing snow from Municipal Stadium to get ready for opening day in 1978. Harold was son of Legendary Cleveland Groundskeeper Emil Bossard, and was a fine Groundskeeper in his own right. One of the many Bossard family members to prep the field for Cleveland over the years.

Is it baseball season yet???

This image is older than 1913. Based upon configuration of the ballpark it’s actually 1910 at the Polo Grounds. A fire burned down the grandstand after the second game of the 1911 season and the rebuilt structure looked very different.

I just added these two in the same week (crazy luck what can I say)
Reds 1949 Bowman and 1955 Robert Gould Card images alongside my cards of the two.

The Bowman is my first mainstream type 1 card image.

Bowman image by famous cardinals photographer George Dorrill and the Gould image of course done by the legend himself, Jacobellis.
This brings me to 4 type 1 original card images of Red.

if you held it in your hand you'd be able to see that it is a photo of a photo. On the front borders it appears like their is white tape. but if you run your finger over them it has no texture. additionally, the photo is kind of hazy, not extremely clear. If it is a type 1, the camera was out of focus.

crazing

This is an example of a photo being subjected to too much heat or dampness.

It's OLD.

When a photo crinkles up like this, it is called crazing. Look up Coyle Studios for an explanation of crazing.

The photo is a Type I.

Even though the the photo is old, which I'm not arguing against, it is not made from an original negative. It is a photo of a photo, and therefore cannot be type 1.

Foxx would technically be a type 3 as the original negative was not used to produce those. Chris posted the type 1 of that photo in the pickup thread, notice the difference of image clarity.

Still a great card/photo!

Here are a couple cool period wirephotos. First from Killer being signed to his bonus baby contract. Then Larry Doby in his Newark Eagles uniform from when he signed with Cleveland and integrated the American League. It's hard enough getting any of the earlier integraters in their negro league uniforms in an original print. This one is a very happy medium.Attachment 618907Attachment 618908

That Doby is awesome! I've been looking for a Doby from his time in the Negro Leagues and his time in the military for a long time with no success. I would very happily take a wire photo at this point for sure.

Big thanks to Jim Chapman for an excellent deal on this photo of Babe and Lou.

My hero as a young Nats fan. I seem to recall another teenager picked up by the Nationals playing semi-pro in Idaho about 50 years earlier...

Just realized I posted the Doby twice. For penance here is a great action shot of Miñoso safe at home on a wild pitch.Attachment 619247

I picked up a 1975 Cincinnati Reds original 3x5 photo set. Many of these were used for the SSPC set.

Awesome pickup... it was me that you outbid. If you want to sell Griffey, Morgan, Geronimo or Concepcion, please PM or let me know. Would love to own just one of these. Nice score!
