Posted By: Dan Bretta
Al, it's not a pinback so it might not fit your description, but I believe I may never run across something this important to my collection ever again.

Posted By: andy
I agree Al. Many of you have seen this one but for those that haven't here it is. I think the writing on the back makes this one. This button had only one owner before me. Her sister thought she lived or worked right on the parade route. I'll help you with the back:

"I feeling fine - Will write soon - I want you to wear this everywhere you go. Waiting for the boys, I mean the Cardinals. There are so many people in front of our door, we can't get out."

Posted By: Mike H
Dan, Those are very nice pins and many are tough to find.

Andy, That is the one of the coolest pins I've seen. You are correct about them being out there, but the inscription makes it sooo much better!

Thanks for sharing, both of you.

Posted By: Al Simeone
Very nice pin Andy! So nice to see that little bit of history on the back. I truely think the cardinals put
out some of the nicest pins made!I also like the orioles pins. I remember when you picked up the one listed above!!

Posted By: andy
Thanks. That Oriole pin was one of the very few that I actually stepped up and spent a few bucks on. I was worried about the condition but on arrival it turned out to be a beauty.

The same lady that had 26 pin also had this common one. But with a very uncommon back. Have any of you seen this back-paper?

Posted By: Dan Bretta
Wow...sweet pin Andy. I'm sure you already know this, but Famous-Barr is one of the backs found on the M101 cards. It was a boys clothing store in St Louis.

Posted By: Greg Theberge
Great looking pins everyone. Thanks for posting them.

Aaron - that 1912 Red Sox pin is a great one (although I personally think it would look real good sitting next to those other Red Sox pins shown earlier in the thread if anyone happens to find one )

All the best and good luck with your quest.

Greg

Posted By: Rhett Yeakley
Just thought I would ressurect this trhead to show the 2 backs for the Stenzel's Pins (I finally got around to scanning them). I have only seen one card with the Petibone backing, and I bought it (It is on my Peitz, not Harper as stated earlier). Just wanted to add how delicate the pin mechanism is on these pins.
-Rhett

Posted By: David Keller
Rhett - Thanks for posting the Stenzel pin backs. Based on the info from your paper back, I believe this is the guy who had the pins made. Note the restaurant/bar across the street from the ballpark in Cincinnati.

From Baseball-Reference.com

"Jake Stenzel played at a time when the ball was the liveliest ever, so his statistics have a lot of air in them. Even so, he was a very good ballplayer.

His lifetime batting average is .339, over 9 seasons. He ranks # 18 on the all-time list with that average, right under Lou Gehrig. However, Stenzel never was higher than 9th in the league in batting in any one season. His lifetime on-base percentage is .408, ranking # 41 on the all-time list. However, he was never higher than 7th in the league in any one season.

In spite of that, he was a good ballplayer, with an Adjusted OPS+ of 135. His best years were all clustered in the period 1893-1897. His best year was 1894, when he posted the line of .374/.447/.539, and while he dominated his own team with those stats, none of those stats were in the top five in the league.

He began his professional baseball career as a catcher in 1887.

After his playing days, he opened up a restaurant and bar across from the ballfield in Cincinnati. However, when the U.S. joined World War I, business slowed and Stenzel was forced to sell the business and become a night watchman. He died in 1919, from what is said to have been the influenza."

Here are a couple more common Reds pins, but I like them....

,
