Great episode, Mark!

Your mention of the flesh tone/no flesh tone on the White Sox pennant reminded me of a discussion Marc and I just had. It was like, “wow! I hadn’t noticed that” for both of us. I told him, “man, we are really into the minutiae.”

I hate to admit it, but I like the blue Dodgers “vendor pennant.” I can’t remember seeing a pennant with the same color body, spine and tassels before.

Seaver at the end was great (be sure to tell Bart). :p

How much time does it take you and Bart to produce an episode like that?

I really appreciate how well edited the whole production is. The computer graphics, music, sound effects even ... it's a top-notch product. :)

Even the jokes are good--although, I'm still not sure whether you write them in advance, or just ad-lib them as you move through each take....

Always wondered whether they made a premium (full size) "BF3" Brooklyn Dodgers pennant. Now I know!

I remember our boys went over the “production” in a recent episode but I couldn’t find it. I’m sure Mark can re-cap or re-post that episode.

Lots to address here...

1. Yes! That Dodgers pennant with the Batter in front of the Coliseum is super unique.

2. The "flesh tone" thing is something that's always fascinated me. In the case of the back-to-back White Sox, it doesn't pop out at first glance. But even I messed it up on the video... In addition to missing his face, the blue version left out the flesh tones on his hands, and even the infield dirt! So an entire screening step was missed when they omitted the beige colored paint.

3. I'll tell Bart that you liked the Tom Seaver part at the end. I actually lost sleep over this, and texted Bart that I blew it by saying the '69 Mets had no real star players. He came up with (and executed) this solution to end the video. If you watch a few of the other videos, you'll see he used similar animated techniques with Don Mossi, Babe Ruth and even the Willard Mullin NY Giant!

Yup, Bart is the master Editor/Director/Producer who makes it happen. He does this on a professional level with countless major companies and organizations. So TSOG is just something he does on the side... it is indeed lots of work, but something he enjoys doing and finds rewarding. While he doesn't really collect, he loves Baseball and we both agreed that the "stuff" was meant to be shared.

As for the jokes... most are just thought up on the spot. We ad-lib almost everything, but have gone to a format in which we do want a semi-formal opening and closing. Sometimes Bart comes in knowing exactly what he wants... The next episode will be an example of that. We are featuring vintage Ad Signs, and I suggested we open with a vintage TV Ad to introduce the video. Bart had one in mind that I didn't even remember, and will work great. But more often, we just ideate something right on the spot.

I come up with the themes for each segment, and always have to do some homework before we shoot, so I have the right names, dates, stats, etc. And of course I supply all the "stuff"... So it makes for a great collaborative effort.

Thanks, and gotta say I love your latest pennant creations. So beautiful and true to the originals. Infinitely superior to anything being made today!

I never answered your question about the length of time it takes Bart to edit and finalize each video. Usually it takes about a week to 10 days. But keep in mind he's busy earning a living, and mixing in TSOG when time allows.

In terms of hours, it depends upon the length and content of the video. But I think the typical video takes about 10 - 15 hours of editing. Regarding that last one, he had to locate and insert video clips of Hank Stram, Tommie Agee, Ron Swoboda, etc. Then he inserted still photos of the Braves Stanford Pottery Bank, Comiskey Park, both the LA and Roman Coliseums, and Tom Seaver at the end.

Add to that the editing out of "ums", coughs, sneezes, the rare instances of one of us getting tongue-tied, editing the video to the right length, cropping each of the pennant images and adding features like making the flags wave. So it's a LOT of work... And if we ever make it to 1,000 Subscribers, we might begin to make a few cents off of it! :rolleyes:

Mark, I have the same pennant and yours is the only other one I have ever seen. Below is a photo of it and a photo of Walter O'Malley at a press conference in 1958, where he is pushing for passage of a referendum to be voted on by LA voters that would allow him to build Dodger Stadium at Chavez Ravine (BTW, the referendum just barely passed). You can see the pennant hanging in the background.

Mark, pure speculation on my part, but I think the reason there are so few of these is that they were never available for purchase as they were made for special events. The construction of the pennant is unlike any others from that vintage (I believe wool, with the spine cut in an hourglass shape also made of the same wool-like material). I have a few other pennants from 1957-58 that were also clearly made for special 1957-58 Dodger events only.

Yes! Given that amazing info from Rick, I guess I should’ve doubled that value estimate. I knew it was uber-rare, but did not know its unique history.
