Unless the back is missing, how can this be a 1? I just don't get this aspect of card grading--the relatively small degree of damage that can bump a card all the way down the scale. I guess the idea must be that this is the minimally acceptable condition for most collectors to consider, so it doesn't matter that 95% (or whatever) of examples of this card discovered will be in this condition or worse, so they should all get the same grade, allowing for much finer condition differences to account for the difference in grades of the other 5%. If this is the theory, I don't agree with it. It seems to me that grades should reflect the condition of the entire population of cards proportionately across the entire spectrum of the scale. Having said all this, I'm a memorabilia guy, so what do I know?

Guys thanks for the comments on the E98 Wagner...that's what I get for buying the card and not the holder;)

I added the back scan above too...its nice. The technical grade could be a SGC10, maybe a 20 if the grader is in a good mood. There is a slice lower right side that likely is the deciding flaw.

I don't see anything but BEAUTY when I look at the card.

Antique shop pickup. The interesting trivia part of this picture is who is missing. There is no Paul Waner in the photograph:

Brian, great Wagner! That small slit in the bottom right accounts for the 10. I bought it already in the holder, but it must go through the back of the card. Otherwise, it would be a solid 40. It's one of the nicest 10's I've ever seen with super color/image, and the nicest one I've owned.

That was a great card auction, I was an early underbidder, but turned towards some of the tougher high grade commons he had going at the same time. (wish he'd stagger his end times by a few minutes, so if you lose your #1 priority you can still get a different card.

Beautiful pickup

Also received almost 40 1964-65 Braves Scorecards, Scorecard inserts, Scorecard fronts including this beauty with the nicest Clemente full signature that I have seen in a long time! There are many deceased, HOFers, and cool rookie or early sigs like Rose, McGraw, and Perez rookie signatures. Over 250 in all! Here is the cover with Clemente:

Very excited to have received this tonight - from the SCP auction last month. It's my very first Cobb so it is somewhat of a moment for me! Pics I took aren't very good, but despite the back centering issue it is perfect for me - the colors are fantastic, the corners and edges are really nice, and the back is clean.
Crazy to think he only hit .385 in 1910 :D

I was looking for an upgrade to my bug hole Moore Billiken so I was pretty estatic when I won this a few days ago.:D
Usually I don't post my pick-ups but wanted to give props to Ryan Christoff for having another great CubanBaseballCards.com auction, as a fellow Cuban card collector, getting the chance to acquire these rare beauties are always a special treat for me. And anytime you can get them at below Hake's auction prices, thats even better;)

Picked up at an antique store. They thought they didn't have any baseball memorabilia, but I found these in an album containing mostly non-sports blankets.

Great pick-up, Steve!

I thought about bidding on that card as well but decided in the end to stick to my HOF-only theme.

rustywilly 06-12-2012 07:24 AM

Finally crossed off Barney from the wantlist

Got this back from SGC/JSA today. Of course, I'm happy that JSA authenticated the signature, but I couldn't convince SGC to put "Jeff Burdick Overstamp" on the flip. Apparently they don't want to get into the business of even suggesting the authentication of a stamp, which is more easily replicated. Still, an amazing and gorgeous card...
