Thanks again to Sonny T. for helping out with my Hofman run! Just acquired this Blank Back...
|
I sure love all these player back runs! So many different ways to collect, that I had never thought of years ago.

Great looking Hofman run, Mike 😀. They look amazing together 🔥

Sonny T is a HOF member here. He has a world class collection and is always willing to help others out with their own collection needs if he can.

Awesome run Mike. Congrats on the pick-up.

Thanks guys! And Adam, I wholeheartedly agree, Sonny is top shelf!

Been awhile (2019) since I was able to add anything new to the run, but the cocoa makes 10. I believe I am now only missing a black croft candy.

Congrats on adding that to the run, DJ! |
When it comes to T206 backs, the line of demarcation between tough backs and truly scarce backs seems to start at Hindu. I have been building a Red Sox set with the goal of having a different back for each player in the set. I rolled through PB, Cycle, AB, EPDG, Sov, Tolstoi and Old Mill fairly smoothly within a year or so of starting the project. But since then I have hit a wall trying to find Hindu and Carolina Brights. There's a CB on EBay of Frank Arrelanes but it's for like 10x what I managed to get the other off backs for. Not gonna do that.
So purely anecdotal but the waters sure do seem to get deep once you hit Hindu. |

It's non sport but you can do some big back runs with the T59 flags.I have a couple of flags with 30 different backs and several with 25-29.
With the different colors and factories there are over 80 different backs this is most of them I think it's missing two or three. Attachment 663945 Attachment 663946 Attachment 663947 Attachment 663948 Attachment 663949 |

Nice to see one of the few Cocoas that I've owned and let go of over the years make its way into your collection. I'll have to give you the backstory on that card the next time we chat! Scott |

Thanks guys.
Val, I will never say they don't exist, but as far as I am aware, none of the other 3 backs have been found. I also believe our good friend Steve was on to something with this post from 2017 regarding the order that the backs were printed and that certain combinations would not exist. https://www.net54baseball.com/showpo...6&postcount=13. Given that Davis's career as a player was essentially over after the 1911 season (played 21 games total from 1912-1917), I see very little reason that they would continue to produce cards of him in the later printings, but would definitely love to see them if they do exist. |
:)
Yes, beautiful run, DJ! With further research since that post in 2017, I will more confidently state that Davis is only in the thin paper KNGO and VE. Good luck in the hunt for the black! (I need both blue and black, so if you find another blue, you know where to find me. :)) |
DJ and Steve, thanks for the education regarding Davis most likely not having been produced with the other two T216 Kotton backs and the T216 Mino back. Once again, the amazing, pre-War card knowledge of Net54 members comes through!
