I recently went through another headache with a dealer from B.C., who, when I asked for his total shipping cost, replied with, "4 flat rate"? I kindly asked him what that meant exactly but didn't get a reasonable reply so I walked. Lots of new ebay sellers so some shenanigans shouldn't be surprising from time to time I suppose but the guy from B.C. had a large feedback score so I'm not sure what he was up to? |

Had to get this one. Centering is very tough on this card.

As I dive back into collecting I want to fill out a couple of my favorite players from childhood. Plus I wanted to buy a PSA and KSA for a low price, hold them, and compare them with my own two eyes. These sure look good to me and very similar and they both came this week.
Excited to contribute to the site. Time to find some more cards. |

Just had to have eBay intervene and repay me due to another seller jerking me around by not sending me a card. I also received, today, yet another card that wasn't as described, or the same card that was in the sellers scans. It is a Pierre Turgeon RC. The scanned card was perfectly centered and had the obvious OPC rough cut. The card I received today was OC like 70/30 and had very clean cuts. At least in this case the seller is going to try to correct it as he said he had about 10 of these and said he likely just put the wrong card in the wrong mailer? (We'll see?) The seller of my Larry Robinson RC refunded me 50% of the total cost, including shipping, which I agreed with so at least that one didn't turn out too bad. Anyways, these arrived today on time, and without issue, so maybe things are looking up? :D Just a mishmash of cards with a bit of a lean towards Fleury who I have been purchasing lately. (more on the way) |
Look what showed up yesterday:
https://photos.imageevent.com/exhibi...20Orr%201.jpeg I can't seem to find the post now but I thought this was stolen out of my mailbox last year. It showed as delivered but I had nothing. Apparently it was delivered to a neighbor who marked it as wrong address and gave it back to the postal worker. Must've been kicking around the local post office for five months. Made my day. |

That card has increased nicely in value since your purchase so it's a double great day. |
Nicely centered 67 Orr with no white dot near his right knee pad and no white specs in the purple background (or whatever color that is).
I have a 67 Orr without the white dot or white specs also. It is a higher quality card in my opinion. Great pick up. Was it ebay ? Sorry I missed it. That's one I would have bought to get signed. |

Very nice sheet. Looks like Richard, Mahovlich, and Howe.
At first I was going to say "Howe" could they print a sheet with Gordie shooting left handed ? Then I remembered that Gordie would actually go to his left hand sometimes in games when he needed to. Looks like Geoffrion, Bower and Barilko round out the five hockey scenes. |
Nice sheet Jim, Adam sharp looking Orr my man awesome that it did indeed show up. Need to scratch my hockey itch.....ASAP !

I hope all is well. I believe those glasses were issued in 1984-85 and I know of at least 13. (Bell, Hunter, Gosselin, Goulet, Gillis, Bouchard, Savard, Marois, A Stastny, P Stastny, M Stastny, the Stastny brothers and one other) I could not tell you what constitutes a complete set though. Hope this info helps. |

That actually helps a lot. I was talking with Bobby and he was not familiar with the set so he could not help me with much information. TTYS and stay safe. |
I started putting together the '70-'71 OPC Deckle Edge set, and I've been enjoying the chase. I'm picking up the commons for between $2 and $5 which makes for some affordable fun.
I've also been trying for some of the '69-'70 OPC Mini Card Albums, but I keep getting outbid. I did purchase this low grade example for $7.92 with a slightly trimmed Bobby Orr. https://www.net54baseball.com/pictur...ictureid=30339 |
low grade 1955 Parkhurst #44 Jean Beliveau HOF four cards left for the complete set!

A couple arrivals today that I have wanted for a while now. (Both OPC)
They're not perfect but they're perfectly acceptable to me. |
Excellent pick ups. Love the Bruins team card.
|
interesting how there is a period after Phil on the Esposito Line card. As if an abbreviation for Phillip. I don’t ever recall seeing it done on any of his other issues, either Topps or OPC in years before or since. I wonder why they did just one card?

New arrival today.
Ebay told me I had to spend my eBay bucks so I decided to purchase this ORR OPC All Star card that I had in my watch list. Another fairly tough card to find centered so this one, although not perfect, fit the bill. :) |
Adam what is your opinion so far of CSG?

More of an accomplishment then a pickup

Good News: I picked up this '51 Parkhurst Ted Lindsay HOF RC!
Bad News: I discovered some mistakes on my wantlist and had to add back on about ten cards that for some reason I had marked off:mad: Now 1/2 way completed at 53 have and 52 need. Larry https://www.net54baseball.com/pictur...ictureid=30662https://www.net54baseball.com/pictur...ictureid=30663 |
This has to be one of the earliest hockey cards I’ve seen. It’s hammered but I love it.

That Plante pic brings back memories of the pics I seen of Sawchuk. |
Man, Sawchuk was awesome. And what a mug!
I believe the Plante picture was from the game in '59 where a puck broke his nose and he went to the locker room, grabbed a mask he used in practice, and wore it onto the ice. Although there had been a few leather fittings here and there over the year, it was essentially the birth of the mask in pro hockey. If I remember it correctly.... |
Quote:
The game also included a variant played on hard surfaces with roller skates. The sport slowly vanished in favour of the more popular game of ice hockey... |
An icy metal ball? That had to sting

Just back from PSA. Razor sharp corners and edges but a few small surface issues take it down to a PSA 2. Can't complain about this one as they are impossible to find and when you do they are in bad shape. Happy to add it to the PC.

Got this super underrated gem in today, Sidney Crosby's Fleer Ultra Gold Medallion RC:
https://i.imgur.com/vv7F3NP.jpg https://i.imgur.com/MgVENvm.jpg These were ridiculously tough to pull back in the day. The Gold Medallion versions of the short printed rookie cards only fell about one per case, and there were 21 different SP rookies. You can do the math on that and see how many cases it would take to pull one Crosby ;) Absolutely thrilled to add this to my collection. I know the Young Gun is far more popular but I think this card looks many times nicer - the gold of the card really compliments the Penguins colors perfectly, and it's one of the only Crosby rookies with an action shot featuring the black home jersey - and it is considerably more rare. Only a few hundred graded! I think it's time in the spotlight will come someday. Now to try and acquire an Ovechkin to match :D |
Quote:
I was watching the regular or base version of this card but never pulled the trigger on a couple that I am regretting now. I did, however, pick up a retail box but haven't cracked it open yet. With other Crosby RC's in UD, Parkhurst, McDonald's and Beehive, I'm in no hurry I guess but I likely will at some point this year? |

1958-59 Parkhurst #49 HOF Doug Harvey leaves me needing just one more card for my set!
What is most surprising about this card: a) I actually won a Greg Morris listing? 2) purchase price $2.52 https://www.net54baseball.com/pictur...ictureid=30881https://www.net54baseball.com/pictur...ictureid=30882 |

Yeah, those are spiffy.
I am replacing slabs with raw: https://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/p5MAA...r-/s-l1600.jpg https://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/m8sAA...r2/s-l1600.jpg Clarke looks soooo innocent. |
I attended the "Philly" baseball card show this past weekend. Dealer had these New York American cards in a binder for $100. Negotiations netted me the hockey cards and a needed baseball card for the asking price so about five bucks each for the matchbooks which I thought was a good price (even though I don't really collect them).

Nice pick, Larry. I can't see the silvers too well but the bottom row has at least one HOFer (Dutton).

Yzerman back from PSA, and the Trottier 2nd year was at a local card shop in Minneapolis.
Had to pick it up, as his son (Bryan Jr.) was a Junior Resident on the Internal Medicine service at the U of MN years ago. The LCS had a huge box of PSA-graded Trottier that was clearly a PSA Registry set at one time, as well as other Islanders players. |

Dale, how do you assess his potential? Are we looking at a top 5 all time player for example?
|
Quote:
When prior players like Gretzky, Lemieux and Orr all say the same thing about him and just shake their heads in amazement, it is undeniable he is an elite, one of kind, rare type of player. If he manages to win a few cups or manages to play on a better skilled, more deeper skilled team sometime, the potential for him to be in the top 2-3 all time is there, imo. With time marching on, however, and if the Oilers don't improve their squad significantly, we may all be denied to see what might have been, unfortunately. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=djjkz9ygbMw |
