WOW — some fantastic deals there! I’d be happy to give you 100x your investment on the 1500m:-)

Old Avery sure had it out for Jim over the next 40 years. That George S. Patton was also a competitor in the pentathlon is mind-blowing, with Jim also playing against Eisenhower soon thereafter.

There were two types of pentathlon - athletic and modern. The athletic pentathon was long jump, javelin, 200m, discus and 1500m. Thorpe and Brundage competed in this. This was held in 3 Olympics - 1912, 1920 and 1924.

The modern pentathlon, aka the military pentathlon consisted of rapid fire pistol shooting, épée fencing, 300m swim, equestrian cross country steeplechase and 4000m cross country run. Patton competed in this. I believe you had to be serving in the military to compete in the modern pentathlon as only men and military could compete in the equestrian events from the start in 1912 until 1948. This is still an event though the individual events have changed.

I am working on the 1912 Stockholm set. I currently have 71 of at least 295 in the set. One of mine has two different poses of an American shooter. I also just won one on ebay yesterday to make 72.

Best of luck on that pursuit, Michael -- that's an ambitious mission!
