Better late than never, Ted. Thanks for posting it. As I mentioned previously, I had not seen any of these before someone earlier (I think Al) posted some.

Also, here are my Irvins.

The Huggins and Scott Super set, link to it in post 102 in this thread, lists two BB variants to this card, dark brown versus tan background. I have not yet found two distinct enough differences to add to my set. My BB has the same coloring as the one Jay posted above. Does anyone have a BB with different background coloring ?

I have found out the hard way that differences in color backgrounds in ebay scans can be deceptive ( not talking about intentional) and different when in hand

So true. I also put together the 1956 Topps set with white and grey backs and also the 1949 Bowman set with light and dark backs, and there were a lot of listings where it was hard to tell the difference between them. It all depended on the picture and the lighting someone had when they took the picture.

ALR-bishop 02-09-2021 08:15 AM

Th H&S Super set lists no variant for Priddy, but the ebay seller Irishosta, who sells a lot of 52 variants, has been listing the red back variant in the link below for some time. I have been looking but not seen a second one yet. While looking I did pick up the red back in the scan below for my set. Have seen at least one other with that defect so far

Here are my Priddys. Doesn't look like I have any of the print defects Al mentioned. I'm not surprised the one available on eBay has been available for a while. $500 is a lot to pay for a little extra blue and red ink.

My Priddy. I hate that I seem to be a year too late to the 1952 set building party. With these prices its hard to find any affordable options to buy. Kicking myself for passing on a number of PSA 2 Mays cards in December when I thought 2300 was too much.

That almost/does look like just blue ink from a ballpoint pen rather than being an actual print defect, but with my eyes, I can't conclusively say one way or the other?

My Mr. Priddy.

ALR-bishop 02-09-2021 12:02 PM

Possible Irv, but believe that seller to be legitimate, albeit one who highly values his cards :). You can find most of the variants he lists yourself on eBay , COMC or Deans if you look over time. If they turn out to be non recurring then I lose interest, and that variant is not listed in the H&S super set.

However, defects like the Campos black star or missing front border can be recurring but pretty scarce

When I click on the link that Al posted, Norton gives me a warning that it is a known dangerous web page that I shouldn't go to. Is there really anything wrong with it?

ALR-bishop 02-12-2021 01:05 PM

When I click on it I get the article, which is from Bob Lemke's old blog. A great hobby resource. Been using it and Dave Hornish's Topps Archives blog for a lot of Topps and other sports cards info for years.

I know that is who you said it was from so I'm not sure why Norton considers it a dangerous site to visit. Maybe because it is a blog or because it is not a secure site. I'm not really sure how Norton decides what sites are dangerous.

Also, zernial was a good looking guy. After his acting gig, he introduced a young woman to Joe DiMaggio. That's right, it was marilyn monroe

In the picture you posted, the upper left corner looks ok to me. Either way, it's still probably better than all 8 corners on both of my Robinsons.

There was a glitch last night where the site was down briefly but when it came back up, all the current posts were missing from the 10th onward.
I seen after a bit that those posts eventually came back but something else may have happened that we're not aware of?
Here's my Elmer Valo card. Like you, all my pics are the same size so if this doesn't work either, then there is definitely a problem somewhere?
Edit: Nope, mine wouldn't work either.

jayshum 02-15-2021 08:50 AM

From Leon's thread about the site upgrade:

"Last night we did a server and software migration. It looks as though pictures are not automatically downsizing as they did before, when using this s/w to host them. A help ticket has been put in and I will update this thread as we figure it out. Please let me know of other technical glitches. If a function worked before it should work now.

And a random card This pic had to be downsized to 68k first in order to upload. It was around 500k and worked fine in the system before. The max size of hosting of pics, hosted in this system, is about 87k."

https://net54baseball.com/showthread.php?t=296783

So it looks like we may have to pause the daily card gallery until this issue is resolved unless everyone can find a way to shrink the size of their picture files.
