today marks the 48th anniversary of Brooks retiring as an active player. He was on the roster (playing infrequently) however Rick Dempsey was coming off the DL and the club needed a roster spot (the announcement was made pregame and the Metropolitan Stadium crowd gave him a standing ovation)

Great photo! - I remember learning of his retiring as an active player that day in 1977. As a 9 year old kid, hearing my favorite player retired made me cry. I still have several scrapbook pages filled with newspaper reports about his retirement from the next day.

Great photo! I remember when Brooks retired and I was upset about the news. Of course we all knew it couldn’t last forever.

So sorry to hear this. Alan was a true treasure. His knowledge of all things Orioles was amazing. RIP Alan. You are greatly missed.

Brooks Team Nabisco Promotion??
 

Does anyone have any information on a promotion Brooks did with a "Team Nabisco All Stars"?

I went to the 2131 30th Anniversary Game a couple weeks ago (which ended up being a great one) and was able to pick one of the game used bases the next day at their Authentics store:

Added my third AL AS Star Pennant at Memorial Stadium in 1958. Still looking for a NL version. Newest variant pennant is the maroon one at the top. Not sure if other colors exist.

I'm not really sure on the year of this Old Timers Game. It has Team Nabisco on the jersey so it may not have been a fully sponsored event by Nabisco. I know I have a snapshot photo, but it's in a box somewhere in my closet (maybe) so I can't see if there's anything on the back of the photo. Possibly can narrow it down from the front of the snapshot.

Team Nabisco All-Stars
 

It's most likely from 2000. Nabisco held a nationwide competition among Wal-Marts to increase sales of Nabisco products and the store in Cheektowaga NY won. As a result they got to play the Team Nabisco All-Stars in a charity game at Dunn Tire Park on August 5, 2000 before the start of the Bisons game. The Nabisco All-Stars won, 22-6. Yogi Berra was the manager. Robinson didn't play third in the game - he was coming off knee replacement surgery which matches with the photo. Brooks played right field - where he allowed an inside-the-park home run.

Man, I didn’t know Brooks played any Old Timers Games in the 2000’s. I thought it would be late 90’s. I’m wondering if this was his last OT game as well.

I’m wondering if the above photo wearing a Nabisco jersey is a different game than the one I pictured. It appears he’s playing 3rd during the game, he’s wearing a light cap, where the above is a dark cap and definitely a different glove.

Good morning,

In 2020, Mark shared his copy of a 1957 The Good Word magazine with an Orioles team photo of the cover. The Good Word was a bi-monthly magazine put out by Gunther Beer.

I recently found a May 1958 The Good Word magazine that also had an Orioles team photo on the cover. Brooks is the bottom right of the photo.

Scott, most folks won’t appreciate your Bazooka box from 1965 is a complete box and how rare that is. I am not an expert but have a little experience and appreciate its significance. Congratulations.

Funny thing is when he saw it he commented "that's an antique!" lol

Mike - that Nabisco store display is super cool. I’m really about out of space in my small room so I only currently try to find smaller items, but that one would be an exception especially with the other greats pictured.

That’s the first time I’ve seen The Good Word magazine you’ve pictured. I used to try and keep up with all the publications with Brooks on the front/back cover, but gave up some time ago. It’s really neat and unusual to see something I haven’t seen or even knew existed before.

Bill - that is a great looking sign; very nice pickup. To me it seems like just yesterday the 2131 game occurred. I’m officially old (well have been technically).

I tried to pick up some of those RC unused/unrolled cans years ago, but never did. The auto makes it even better in my view.

John - great looking early autograph Brooksie postcard. Is there anything on the back? It doesn’t look like it was TTM, but checking. Neat to know what year it was signed.

Scott - that is an amazing pickup. While I’m seen numerous ‘65 cutouts with Brooks I have never seen a full box. Definitely rare.

Baltimore Orioles 1966 WS Bottle Opener
 

Thought to share a recent auction win. This bottle opener appears to be from 1966 or so celebrating the Baltimore Orioles World Series appearance. It measures 12 inches. Unique item. Not as exciting g as some of the other recent posts. Never saw it before.

That is NICE! I’ve never seen one of these as well. Great pickup.

The two Brooks Robinson cards I most covet are the Topps 1959 and 1960 ones.

To my knowledge the earliest known item from a martin family night. This program is to the 1962 Martin Family night, predating when they created special programs for the game. (See oriole gram)

And a 1965 Orioles score book with brooks on the front, I have seen a few but only a couple with Brooks, for some reason he is quite rare on the 1965 cover.

Picked up two 1958 NL All Star Pennants from Memorial Stadium. I have 3 of the AL versions. The NL versions included below.

Sort of OT, but fits into the overall Orioles theme. I'm reading Ron Luciano's book, Strike Two, and Earl Weaver comes up a good amount.
This paragraph (starting with "But") was a basic summation of their history together, and the highlighted line made me laugh...

Brooks Robinson Sports Illustrated 8 x 10 (Maybe 1964)
 

Has anyone ever seen this photo…Brooks Robinson Sports Illustrated 8 x 10 and appears to be 1964 based on the 1964 Team Issued Photos I have. Curious about the details. I see one on eBay of Reggie Jackson but he did not play in 1964. Perhaps they used a photo from 1964 for Brooks and this puts it in the late 1960s. Notice the different Sporrts Illustrated markings at bottom. Please let me know. Will post on FB, too.

I’ve seen the one where SI is kinda in a box, but have not seen the example where it is straight across with SI within. Guess it’s some type of promotional photo by SI, but unsure the specific year. Would think it’s around ‘64. Unsure why this photo was being used so much with a spot on the negative (on his nose). Have seen the photo without this blemish.

In anticipation of Game 7 of tonight's World Series, I thought I'd post the press box score sheet that Orioles Public Address announcer (Adrienne Roberson) used that night (and gifted me afterwards) from the infamous Dodgers/Orioles game on 09/06 (which was also the 30th anniversary of the Cal Ripken 2131 game) when Yamamoto was one out away from and a No Hitter.........

That is very cool; love items like these.

Bethlehem Steel Night Photo Packs
 

NFS - Last year our friend Alan Strout and I were going back and forth about Baltimore Orioles Bethlehem Steele Noght Photo Packs. He thought the packets were available from 1966 - 1970. He promised to research when he returned from his spring in Florida. Alan and I never had a follow as he passed away. Please look at attached, I am providing the front and back of Brooks Robinson photos from the pack as well as the pack. Each pack but the first one has a year on cover. I think the first one undated with Brooks is from 1965 given Robin Roberts’s is on team still. Aparicio, Powell, Blair and Brooks are also in pack. Anyone seen the first one without date before and know year?

Let’s call it a ‘65 since it’s undated and fits the one per year process for the Bethlehem Steel booklets. Who can argue with no date represented and the period Brooks photo used.

The buyer definitely got a deal on this ‘66 cardboard Memorial Stadium sign. There is a similar one on eBay, different direction, asking $9K or so. This is way too much, but definitely worth over 1K.

Here are my WS direction signs for the Orioles. I believe I am missing the 1969 version which is red. Always looking for that one. None of these are cheap. The City of Champion and 83 version are less expensive. The 1970 Yellow version is my favorite.

Mark, love the Brooks final game photo from 1977 (you're correct, it's very similar to mine)..

At the Philly Show yesterday, I finally was able to pick up one of the Brooks' HOF commemorative bats from 1983 (only 500 produced).

1983 was the first year they issued these bats and this one is harder to find that one would think......

Very nice looking bat. I picked up an ’83 example many years ago.
