I believed I've posted in the past, but here's a fairly unique item from the store.

Wow great items gentlemen!

One of the Orioles best items kids could find at Memorial Stadium or as a mail in offer was the 1973 Johnny Pro Set. The Push-Out, Stand-Up pictures including 24 different cards of Earl Weaver and the team. Brooks appeared on 2. Several players were not included due to when they signed with the Orioles. Included in this post are both of the Brooks cards. These are both part of the PSA Master Set. I upgraded the fielding card recently. The advertisement also served as the mail order form. On the front, it shows some of the cards punched out and on the back are the details about the set and how to order one for $2.00 or $2.50…anyone know the price so I can send mine in?

In the Zolotorow collection included a second binder with a bunch of miscellaneous items. The second binder has a drawing of Brooks and what I believe is a signature and his #5 sticker. In the binder was some baseball cards, personal letters from Brooks to Zolotorow, photos (more on those in the coming days), Brooks sporting goods letterhead and business card. Included today is the binder, letterhead, business card and some personal correspondence from Brooks to Zolotorow.

That drawing on the binder looks worse than his 58 Topps card !

Chstrite 05-14-2024 04:22 AM

Nice T-shirt, Mark.

I agree, Scott. Bad drawing.

Day 134 – 14 May 2024
Today’s posting is a Rawlings Staff Advisory photo in the Zolotorow binder of Brooks. This Staff Advisory photo is probably the most rare rawlings photo of Brooks with glove to chest. I actually have seen only one other copy of this photo and it is mine PSA graded and signed by Brooks. This photo is unsigned and in decent shape. I am debating to grade it or keep raw. This is a huge find if you collect Staff Advisory Photos. The binder also included this team issued 8 x 10 Tadder photo with Brooks as a 3b and CH for coach I believe. The binder included a lot of other team issued photos and Koolon photo.

BaltOrioles 05-14-2024 09:35 AM

Charlie,

Great photos. I love the advisory photos. Let me know if you ever want to sell it. :D

Chstrite 05-14-2024 05:26 PM

Will do, Alan.

There are some Orioles figures next to the binder in Post 3881. Does anyone have a full set and can post them for us?

Another interesting item from the Zolotorow collection is a Brooks Robinson Sporting Good store bag. The bag is similar to a bag you would get at Nike if you bought a few items. It is in perfect shape. It looks just like the binder cover.

Chstrite 05-15-2024 05:59 AM

Rob, do you mean Post 3876 Johnny Pro 1973?

ksfarmboy 05-15-2024 12:38 PM

I think he’s talking about the 1970 team statues on the base. You can see a couple of them in my binder post. I don’t have a picture of them handy or I’d share.

Sweet! Wish I had one of those! All things considered, including three 20-game winners, four HOF members (including Weaver), four gold-glovers, 108 victories, 1970 World Series winners, I believe this to be the best Orioles team of all-time.

I sure do wish I could find a set of those figurines somewhere. Any ideas, anybody?

Brooks Robinson Crown Decal

1 Attachment(s)
Day 136 – 16 May 2024
The collection from Zolotorow also included the iron on decal of Brooks that looks like one of his Crown Gasoline stickers placed on gas pumps back in the day. This iron on decal has one of Brooks most iconic pictures. I would love to find the actual color photo of Brooks with Crown back in his playing days that is very similar to the iron on.

Nice iron on; again never seen another. Of course that image of Brooks is used on a lot of ads along with the team issue photos.

What color photo are you referring? I believe Tadder took this image in B&W.

This is really cool, because although seemingly everyone knows about Baltimore having four 20-game winners in 1971, I didn't realize a trio of the same hurlers accomplished the 20-games won feat just the year before in 1970.

Love stuff like this!!

Brooks Robinson Photos

Day 137 – 17 May 2024
My final post on the Zolotorow collection is a few photos of Brooks in his personal life and a couple team issued items. The top right photo is a smaller version of one of his 1970s team issue 8 x 10. The top left photo is the 1971/74 team issue photo. This one is pretty rare and until a few weeks ago, I did not have one…now I have two…funny how that happens. The remaining photos are of Brooks and Connie and Brooks working hard at his desk. The other photo appears to be him speaking to a small group maybe after playing around of golf in the Fall. That is all from the Zolotorow collection.

1963 Post Cereal original artwork

4 Attachment(s)
Hi Gang:

Don't think I posted this before. This is the original artwork portfolio from the 1963 Post Cereal set. This is different from the Jello portfolio shown in another thread. As you will see this folio is for a 14 oz. Raisin Bran box and has Brooks on it.

There is a cover, a top sheet with players names etc a bottom sheet with just the over sized photos. Then the "final" with the overlay atop the photos

The "cards" are much larger than the ones issued as they used this for camera art.

Obviously one of a kind. Although ones were made for all the different size boxes and different cereals.

Brooks Robinson Bears

Day 138 – 18 May 2024
Today I am showing my 3 Cooperstown Bears of Brooks Robinson. These are not too expensive but can be hard to find. The one on the left is celebrating Brooks 1964 MVP season. I really enjoy the uniform. The middle bear is celebrating the 1966 WS. I am not sure if the glove was part of the package but enjoy it either way. The one on the right is celebrating the 1971 season and has a bat. I think the orange jersey looks especially nice.

Day 139 – 19 May 2024
The friends of the HoF receive a bear at their players induction ceremony is what I understand with this bear. The bear is a beanie baby. This particular bear is no one else but #5, Brooks Robinson. The Brooks bear is small and still in its original packaging. Saw one other one over the years. Hard to believe this one is 40 plus years old.

Baltimore Orioles Doll

2 Attachment(s)
Day 140 – 20 May 2024
I am not exactly sure about this doll but believe it is from the 1970s. It is a basic stuffed animal and measures about 12 inches. It is in its original packaging. It says I am a little Oriole on the front and the back has the old bird logo swinging a bat.

Day 141 – 21 May 2024
Like yesterday, today’s stuffed animal is from the 1970s but have seen it is from 1979. This bird is a little rough looking. The bird has oversized shoes and the old Oriole logo on the hat. The fur is a little dated. The bird is made by Russ Berrie measuring 12 inches.

Day 141 – 22 May 2024
Thought I would show some bobbleheads. My favorite is the 3-foot Cooperstown Collection Brooks Robinson. Certainly, this one has been shown before. Bringing this one home was quite the treat. I put it in a car seat. My wife thought I lost my mind. It is by far my favorite.

She’s very observant 😎

I’ve had a couple opportunities to pick up the 3’ Brooksie over the years, but passed each time. While I really like the bobblehead and it makes for a very nice display piece, but the reason I never picked one up is that “I know” I’d ultimately break the thing…

By the way as I’ve said before you have a great looking setup in your O’s room.

Day 142 – 23 May 2024
For the next few days, I will show you some of my Vintage Baltimore Oriole Bobbleheads. The mini bobble heads from 1961 are very tough to find. Here, I am showing you my 1961 boy face bobblehead. This one has the ball. I still need the boy face with a bat. These are very expensive and hard to find. The two mini bird face bobbleheads (with bat and ball) are hard to find and a bit expensive but not like the boy face, which are impossible to find. These are all three in great shape and display very nice.

Very nice minis! I’ve only seen two examples of the boy Nodder with the ball over the years so very scarce. Your example looks to be in very nice condition. Thanks for sharing these great items…

Another rare Baltimore Oriole Bobblehead are the two appearing below. These African American green base bobbleheads are similar but have some differences. I believe they are from 1962. The bird on the hat, ball on top of the hat, the eyes are oriented differently, different size lips and hat bill is oriented differently. These two are not so hard to find but they will cost you.

Mark, bad English and big fingers. I meant to say…I still need the mini nodder boy face with bat but too expensive. Sorry.

Baltimore Orioles 1960s bobblehead

Day 144 – 25 May 2024
Today I am showing you my two Baltimore Oriole Bird Face Bobbleheads with a green and white bases. The green base bobblehead is from 1960 or so. This version does not have a bird on the hat and the ball and glove are oriented differently. The white base is from 1961. Again, no bird on the hat. I go back and forth on the bobbleheads in terms of preference: boy/man or bird face. Regardless, these are very nice, not as rare and affordable.

Brooks Robinson Statue “The Legend Lives”

1 Attachment(s)
Day 146 – 27 May 2024
Today, I am showing you the pewter Brooks Robinson Michael Ricker statue from 1992. The statue says “The Legend Lives.” This is one of my favorites. The young boy looking at Brooks’ gold glove is very typical for a young lad meeting their hero for the first time. This statue is nicely done and is very heavy. They are not that easy to find but affordable.

Think that it’s cool that the gold glove was incorporated into the figure. Also, love that a kid is incorporated; gives the honest connection with young people and their hero. I know they did this with the statue in York, PA (which I have not visited yet).

While I don’t have many awards I do have one given to Brooks from the Boys Club shown with a young person.

Hope you all have a wonderful Memorial Day. Our fallen troops are well worth remembering.
