Just picked up a gamer of Giants' fan favorite Hunter Pence. A guy who deals in a lot of Giants gamers told me Pence and Brandon Crawford bats are very hard to find. My experience has borne that out. Other players from the Giants' 2010, 2012 and 2014 Championships are not nearly so scarce (e.g. Posey, Sandoval, Scutaro, Belt, Huff, etc). This bat has a production date of 1-18-2012...Hunter didn't get to the Giants until the trade deadline...but his autograph has an "8" with it (his Giants number) and there's an 8 in the cupped end, so I'm gonna say he didn't break this bat out until he got to SF. :p

Congrats on the Pence bat, very nice:

Awesome pick ups for me this month.
A Mike Piazza bat, and I got my Bob Fothergill bat back from PSA. Had Fothergill for a while, but finally got around to having it checked out. I wonder what the little scoring is? Maybe he was keeping track of his hits? |
nice
Sean
Nice couple of bats! Especially drawn to the Fothergill. You don't see one of those everyday. Is it from his days with the Tigers? Mark |
Fothergill
Hi Mark,
I believe that it is from his days with the Tigers. It has the baseline "1" in the "125", so I think I can narrow it down pretty good. Sean |

Picked this up recently to add to the Tiger (played 5 games in 1983) collection. He won a WS in 87 with the Twins. Not sure what happened to the registration?

A Barry Bonds gamer (same model as mine but without Bonds’ trademark criss-cross tape, post #333) sold last night at REA FOR $5250. I’m glad I got mine in the mid 90’s for 300 bucks. :p

I’m almost certain I’ll never own a bonafide McGwire gamer but I sorta like this broken fungo and the story that goes with it better, anyway.
The story goes that in 1997 at the Kingdome, McGwire was messing around with this fungo during batting practice, trying to see how far he could hit a ball with it. The bat broke. The guy I obtained it from was a child at the time and, with a friend, asked for and received the pieces of the bat. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...33bf3f5cb2.jpg https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...4458246989.jpg Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Let’s start a game used bat thread.
I’m also now the center of the collecting world for game used bats by former A’s 1B prospect Rob Nelson. Lol
No word on if the left bat was used by Donnie Hill too. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...946ab4e338.jpg https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...4254c2bd55.jpg Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

This caught my eye. Looks like someone bought it. It's more than I've ever paid for a bat but, given the current climate, it didn't seem like an outrageous price.

Here are some bats I picked up at the National. The Soriano has a ton of great use. I already owned the Sheffield but got him to sign on Thursday.
https://i.imgur.com/UOBeYiDh.jpg On Friday I went on to pick up these 3 bats. The Kemp shows great use and the Hamilton bat has light to moderate use. The Granderson 2006 World Series bat is issued. It actually used to be mine and I traded it away to the same dealer at the last Atlantic City show. I always regretted trading it and was happy to be able to buy it back. https://i.imgur.com/R0SoTO7h.jpg The Hamilton bat is one of the largest bats I've ever owned. It's 35 inches and 33 ounces, but the knob is so large. https://i.imgur.com/XMYOfgQh.jpg |

I’m pretty happy to add this Willie Stargell game used bat to my collection. It takes me one step closer to my goal of obtaining a bat from each position player on the 1971 Bucs roster who batted and played at least one inning in the field. I still need Carl Taylor and Bill Mazeroski.
|
Congrats!! You are almost done!

Thanks Mark and Jim! I have had a lot of help from some great sources. I found a Maz but won’t be able to add it until November. Carl Taylor is actually Steve Blass’ brother in law. I’m going to ask him to call Mr Taylor to see if he happens to have any of his old bats laying around the house. I figure it’s worth a shot.
|
I’ll be on the lookout for you…..very exciting! At one time I had the entire ‘61 Yankees ( position players ) and Whitey Ford as well - also had the ‘96 and ‘98 Yankee teams and the ‘77 and ‘78 Yankee teams including George Zeber….I was obsessed….sold all of that to buy my farm….miss them dearly….
But I am working on the ‘69 Mets currently…..just missing Ed Charles and Art Shamsky…. Collecting Game Used Bat team sets - It’s a sickness…..but love it… |
Thanks! Sounds like an epic collection you had but you can’t complain about using it to fund a purchase like that!

Always have loved team bat collectors!!! I completed the 1955 KC A's, 1967 KC A's, 1969 Royals, 1976 Royals, 1980 Royals, and 1985 Royals. Hurt me a little when I let them go but still have enough bats in my house to drive my girlfriend crazy :)

Ryan sounds like quite a collection. I’m curious do recall what surname was on the Vic Power bats?

Jim if I remember correctly you purchased my extra 1955 Enos Slaughter gamer years ago.
Mike, I had 2 Vic Powers. One with Powers and one with Pellot. |

I’m looking for some ideas. I completed my 1971 Pirates bat run. There are 18 total bats in my collection. I’m considering building a display case. Before I do I was curious as to how others display their bat collections.
|
I sold my bat collection to focus on flannels, but I kept one of my bat racks up. The plan is to limit my bats to no more than 10, and in time, have them be the 10 most meaningful, yet inexpensive, bats I can acquire.
I made this rack myself. It's simple, the tubes protect the bats, they are easy to pull out and put back (velcro stickers hold them in place,) and since 1967 was the first year I collected cards, I display them with the bats. You could build this for less than $25.00. By the way, Ryan helped me when I was collecting bats, he then helped me sell many of them for good prices, and earlier this year he (Crown) sold me one of my favorite flannels - a road NOB Etchebarren. Ryan, thanks yet again! http://vendiamo.com/X/b.jpg |
Thanks Mark I appreciate your response. I like that idea. However, I’m likely going to pay someone to construct something for me large enough to house all 18. I am terribly inept when it comes to using tools and I’d like to keep all of my fingers.
