One player collector
90% of my collection is Gehrig. Just focused on him early and find his life story so compelling. Not that I don't grab the random Ruth, Matty, Clemente or Jackie, but my focus is principally one guy.
Are there many other one player collectors on the board? (Using one player to be the 90% number?) If so, who do you got? |
Not Pre War but I have been a Wade Boggs collector since I started collecting in the 80s.
I have picked up a truck load of other stuff over the last 30+ years but Wade is still by far my main focus. |
I only collect items of Frank Miller (my great-grandfather).

I collect reprint sets. The only original cards I have are of Eddie Mathews, my favorite player.

Deaf players
Dummy Hoy and Dummy Taylor. My son is deaf and that got me started. I have most everything. Still seeking a Tolstoi and Broad Leaf Taylor and a N173 Hoy.
Realbigfatdog - That is a beautiful display. Bobby Orr too on the hockey side. |
Not 90% of collection, but

Well I can't say it's 90% of my cards but I do have several hundred New York Yankee (and Indians before that) pitcher Allie Reynolds. I started out as a 50's set collector and I still have a card each needed for 53T (Mays) and 49 Bowman (Campy) sets. But most of my focus has been on Allie Reynolds in the last 5 years.
This picture includes a sampling of my master set with some extras. Always looking for others, even doubles, triples, quadruples, and more. Tony |

That Chase collection is great. Ben, that Boggs shirt. I've never focused on one player, but Harry Wright would be my choice. Unfortunately, the pickings are slim.

Richie Ashburn
I have been collecting Richie Ashburn for over 40 years.
Have just about everything including toughies I NEVER thought I would find like: 1959 Dad's Cookies 1949 Lummis 1955 Exhibit PC back w/Mutoscope Line 1955 Exhibit PC back with plain line Three high Star Call Decal and many more. Last thing I know of that I need is an Ashburn Felin's Frank. This was never issued and when a "find" turned up at the printer's years ago Ashburn was not included. Although I do have a newspaper ad proof showing his card. Anyone have one? Help a guy out!! :) |

Ironically I was pulling together all of my Joe Tinkers for his bday and realized I had a pretty good collection going of his.

Were you the one who just purchased the Ashburn Dixie Lid salesman sample on EBay? If so, great pick up! I've never seen a Dixie Lid salesman sample before. |

After collecting all kinds of golf cards for the past 30+ years, I have settled on Ben Hogan cards. I currently have 125 of the 259 that I know exist.
If you have anything to offer, please let me know. |
Impressive collection of Chase. Wow!

I’ve got some oddball stuff from when I first started collecting but now stick pretty exclusively to Mickey Mantle, who’s cards make up roughly 95% of my collection.

Hi Mike: I assume you are talking about a Dixie PREMIUM Salesman Sample? If so, no I did not win it. I know who did, but I already had it. If you are talking about a Dixie LID Salesman Sample, I missed it. If so can you send me a link to it? Thanks, Fred |

I have a different kind of player collection. Both pre-war and modern cards. I collect any player from any sport with their first or last name of Hogan in any sport. I have quite a few different of Frank (Shanty) Hogan.

Wow, that Chase collection & display are awesome.
George Gibson makes up close to 90% of my collection for sure. Here's one I don't post often (rest of my collection linked to in my signature): <img width="500" src="https://www.collectorfocus.com/images/show/georgegibson/baseball-cards/12142/1913-voskamps-coffee" /> Cheers, Richard. |

If Steve is on board.....
In addition to "collection photos" - perhaps a card or 2 with a good back story?
Great collections everyone = thanks for sharing! Especially appreciated the Chase and Ruth collections. My player is Roberto Clemente. Currently have the #5 master PSA set and a collection that goes well beyond that including cards that PSA refuses to grade because they have never seen them before! Sub collections of newspapers, magazines with Clemente on the front or back cover, store model gloves, store model bats, display items, and more. |
I am a Sam Crawford collector. While I do also collect vintage golf, my Baseball card collection is just Crawford.
Always looking for Crawford cards I don't have! |
I’m a longtime boxing collector, specializing in 1960s heavyweights. Probably 75% of my collection focuses on Canadian contender George Chuvalo, who peaked at No. 2 in the world rankings and is the only man who fought the “holy trinity” of Muhammad Ali (twice), Joe Frazier and George Foreman. I have on-site posters from 40 of Chuvalo’s 97 bouts, including six of the nine he headlined at Madison Square Garden, as well as programs from 50 of his bouts, a dozen of his contracts and hundreds of wire photos. Tickets, media passes, cards and promotional issues round out the collection — but I’m always looking for more.

That Hal Chase display is unreal. Really amazing. And nothing wrong with the Ruth’s or Wajo; however, regarding Johnson, I bet Val hasn’t posted yet bc he is still putting together all his Wajo and Senators stuff.
I collect Wagner and Cobb. Links to each https://www.flickr.com/photos/156271...57703230513722 https://www.flickr.com/photos/156271...57678533234258 |

"I never had a bad day in baseball,” said the soft-spoken Colbert decades after retiring. “It was, I woke up, I wanted to go to the ballpark. I liked playing every day. I didn’t need an offday. I played with a bad back, broken toe, fractured wrist, and concussion. I played. I just played, because I figured I’m going to hurt anyway, so I might as well play.

Not a large collection, but some interesting pieces. Got the record and the bat at the same time about 10+ years ago. Got the auto about 5 years ago, and just added the Musial card. I'd like to add a Hartland statue eventually.

Stan the Man is great to collect from a card perspective, as neither of his rookies really break the bank. His 48 Leaf is usually priced a little bit higher, than his 48 Bowman, from what I've seen. Both available in lower grades for under $1000

Ted Williams.
Finished playing before I was born. Finished managing before I got into baseball. But has been my childhood baseball hero since age 10. Have over 300 different cards and 500-600 items. To my knowledge, only 1 card that I have not seen/owned/own now and that is the 1949 Baas Cheri-Cola Ted Williams--(7 5/8" x 9 1/2", B&W, red ad back) Someone make my 2020 year better and post a scan. Much like Steve, the OP, my collection centers on Lou Gehrig. I have all sorts of items, from cards, to original photos, autographs, and ither ephemera. He is even the reason i started to collect thev1934 Goudey set autographed. It is the "Lou Gehrig Says" set.
I collect other things as well, but he is the only individual player i focus on. The link below is to the flickr album with scans of most of my Gehrig collection. https://www.flickr.com/gp/96571220@N08/WZ1e4M Sent from my SM-G975U using Tapatalk |

Trying to sell the majority of my collection. Decided to focus on a few players with the 20% that's left. Kept the Entire Lombardi items. Not everything is in there, I need to display an Orbit Gum pin, and the SF nodder needs to be a NYG nodder, but all in due time.
Other players I can focus on are Barry Larkin, Frank Robinson, Joey Votto, Tris Speaker, Stan Musial, and Cal Ripken.https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...fc40987db4.jpg Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G930A using Tapatalk |
