Thought that I would start off the new month with this one, a 1982 Pre-Rookie Type I Press Photo of the latest BB HOF inductee, Barry Larkin.........

Now you need to get a Griffey Jr. in his Moeller uniform :) Congrats!

I got these. Im an Army football Collector, so I thought they were pretty cool. Dont know too much about them, but I think they are pre-1940. The three piece probably much earlier.

I got pneumonia. I'll recover, but it's a crappy way to start.

On the other hand, I did get this beautiful 8x10 or thereabouts pic of Gehrig and Ruth.
It was taken winter of 1927 in Nebraska, by Photographer Nathaniel Dewell.
He was most famous for his aerospace pics of air mail pilots from the 1920's

Below the pics is a page from a book the seller sent me describing the event. You can see the book references Ruth being presented with an egg. I think this is what the picture is depicting.

Just picked up this Hal Chase. I compared the Hal and it matched up pretty well though the Chase is a bit weird. It has paperwork as being from a Robert Edwards auction with Mike Gutierrez COA and ex Halper but that name worries me a bit. Still, I am kind of throwing caution to the wind here as it matches up with my Hal Chase Sporting News items I just got last month almost like I was meant to get this one. It even comes with the Original Hal Chase sporting news issue ad.

Awesome photo! You may want to check out Ebbets Field Flannels, they have very nice looking repro versions of the Larrupin' Lou's and Bustin' Babes hats featured in that photo on sale. They'd look great displayed next to it!

Great Hal Chase display. I haven't seen the postcard size "whatever became of Hal Chase". Is it blanked back? I have a larger size (about 11 x 17) poster of the same.

Very interesting. When I was doing research in Iowa, I came across this in a small-town museum (Pella), describing a famous day in their town's history, when Ruth and Meusel led two town teams against each other in 1922:

david how can you tell? the hal matches very well with all "authenticated"ones and the only thing odd on the chase is the e at the end which is sort of capitalized. I know halper had a lot of forged items but this one seems an odd thing to forge. back in the 80s this wouldnt of had much value.

In my opinion, there's nothing right about that signature. If I were you, I'd get some other opinions.

there were two letter s I saw pre stroke where the h was like this one. he has such a generic signature I've mostly stayed away from the few examples I've seen. the questionable thing for me was the e in chase. I tried writing his name and realized I could accidentally make a capitol E if my pen skipped. that added on to the fact that its been so around awhile made me pull the trigger. however the skpeticism regarding this from you guys I had to a smaller extent so I think I'll get a psa quick opinion. not that I trust them more but at least a thumbs up from them and mike guitierrez will give me more confidence in the piece. I hVnt paid for it yet so hopefully the seller will understand if psa says no. I appreciate the feedback on it and I'll let ya know what I find out.

gosh.... I have to take some stuff out of the safety deposit boxes and start framing stuff. This is outstanding work. Very cool.

I really look forward to the monthly pick-up thread here but excuse me if I feel that the thread seems to be dominated by photos. Maybe we can have a seperate pick-up thread strictly for photos and another for everything else.

Perhaps it seems dominated by photos, because photos are
1) Photos seem to be part of many collectors field of interests. Even if it isn't their main focus, they still obtain some now and again.
2) Photos have become much more available to everyone, both in quantity and price, since the release of all the newspapers archives.
3) They are great display pieces.

Text is almost entirely in Japanese.

I was really happy to find a 1949 edition of the Indians Putnam book at the antique mall yesterday...and even happier when I opened the cover!

Twenty bucks...the price tag was resting atop the closed book, and I was happy to pay that for the book itself. A total surprise when I opened the cover. It was in a mall, so the seller wasn't present...but the string part of the tag was tucked inside the pages. I doubt they noticed the signatures.

Well Murph... :confused: If I make a comment on the seventh page of a thread, regarding the posting of a nice piece and story that a fellow member (for example, I'll use perezfan) had posted from the second page, how is anyone going to know what I, or anyone else for that matter, would be referring to without using the quote feature?

Of course the longer a thread goes, (it's now more frequent that threads go for several days or more) the more confusing it would be for everyone involved, if no one used the quote feature.

On another note, it's also the only way to hold someone to their word. So in my opinion, the board would be near chaotic without it.

1888 Harper's Weekly full page with Tim Keefe and Buck Ewing. Sure it's a little beat, and the stain doesn't help much. But I can't complain about adding career contemporary images of these two Hall of Famers for $10...And I'm thinking it still might display well...

Personally, I re-post the previous photo when I think it's appropriate. Others might not like that, but the vertical scroll bar is really easy to use. You can blink while you're scrolling and then you won't see the original quoted scan.

1936 AP. This AP stamp was used from around 1936-1950.
Image is reversed. It's not stamped reverse, but I can tell because the buttons on shirt and fly cover on pants open on his left in picture which is opposite of the way it should be.

Of course, the fact that Lou's got his glove on his left hand helps, too!

Actually, the reason I used those examples is because the face is not fully visible. The seller wasn't sure it was him as the player in the picture appears right handed.

yeah it came back not likely genuine. I told the seller and canceled purchase. The seller was a little angry as he said Gutierrez used to work for PSA or something like that. I was just glad i dodged a bullet there :)

A big 'thanks' to Rhys for making this terrific 1949 8x10 TYPE 1 photo of Marilyn available, and at a terrific price to boot! Rhys is, and always has been a class act, and the hobby could certainly use more like him. Thanks again Rhys.

Got this in yesterday. Back has some scuffs, but the front is great. Love the rivalry, Knute Rockne, and Old School Yankee Stadium referenced on the cover.

Purchased my first Type 1 or 2 photo! Special thanks to Jimmy in clarifying and teaching me the way :)

Below is a photo of Umpire Mike Stack of the National League... I have found a few references of him around 1905, but I have allot of research still to do. Hopefully I can find what this picture was published in.

Picked up a "Daily News" with Feller's Opening Day No Hitter Headline...It should look really nice with the "Sunday News" with photos of his return to Cleveland that I picked up a few weeks ago..

I have come to the conclusion that I will never have the nice green Gehrig day ticket like Mr. Atkatz(It is killer). Therefore, I decided to go all in on this Yankee Season pass ticket from 1939. It was most likely used on July 4th as well as Ted Williams debut game. It will look great framed with my Type 1 photos of the day.

I won this last night in Hunt's auction.

Gary, these have always been some of my favorite figurals. Mine do not have the bases and yours appears to be in excellent condition. Congrats on picking up the more difficult of the two. A batter will surely present itself soon.

Was given a Hall of Fame ball from Reds beat writer Hal McCoy. Awesome! Supposedly 1/500 made!

FYI, there is going to be another one in a PSA slab in the upcoming Heritage Catalog Auction ending on April 26-27.....

That's a final game of streak ticket (30 April 1939), Scott, not a Lou Gehrig Appreciation Day ticket (4 July 1939).

My apologies.
I did know that the one in Heritage's auction was the last game of the streak, but I had a brain fart about the significance of your ticket even though I've seen you post it before. BTW, I do love your ticket!!

Does anyone know how rare the July 4th, 1939 tickets are? Like I said, I haven't seen one before David's, but I don't always look at the auctions.
