November Pickups
2 Attachment(s)
Sorry for jumping the gun, I just wanted to rain on the Red Sox parade with a Yankees item to start off the month (a day early, apologies - also it hasn't arrived yet, so technically it will be a Nov. pickup).
I was unaware Gehrig was on the '23 Series roster, yet he did not play. The card is scored for Game 2. 2 Ruth Home Runs. |

Another Koufax
2 Attachment(s)
The Koufax is signed by Walter Looss on the back, it is 11" x 17" and is a type 1.
The Clemente is an Emmons. |
When I was 8 I had a poster with the artwork so I had to have the pin:
http://photos.imageevent.com/exhibit...0Hey%20Pin.JPG 1955 Bill and Bob PC. Is it signed? Damned if I know. As a PC it was a great deal, so I bought it. If the autograph is good, that's just icing on the cake. Anyone who knows the signature, please chime in. http://photos.imageevent.com/exhibit...athews%201.JPG http://photos.imageevent.com/exhibit...athews%202.JPG |
Won this the other day. Invitation to the Una Base Ball Club's Calico Party on February 6, 1868. My oldest piece of memorabilia. With original mailing envelope.

Although I already own these ticket stubs I could not resist purchasing this lot on eBay yesterday. The lot included a scored Game One Baltimore program, a scorecard, and tickets to all four games played in Baltimore. The tickets are all for same seat. On the back of each ticket the original owner(s?) wrote the line score, pitchers, homers, attendance, and the weather. There are also names written that I don’t recognize: Richard Phillips, Henry Jacobs, and Kenny Benner (games 6 and 7). Perhaps these are the names of the people who used the seat? Thankfully this writing served to keep the price down to an affordable $50.00. Nonetheless, I really love the story these stubs tell. I have never really enjoyed full unused tickets. In my opinion unused tickets document history but failed to witness it. Although much more valuable than a stub, a mint unused ticket to game seven of the 1971 series must be a terribly sad thing to behold:rolleyes:
|
In agreement w you. Cool story and lot for sure.
|
it might be possible richard phillips is richie phillips the umpire's union lawyer. he did not start that until 1978, but was involved in sports in the early 70's. i believe he was from the philadelphia area.

I picked this tie up last week. My understanding is that Iron City Beer was one of the sponsors of the 1971 Pirates. Members of the 1971 World Series team and front office staff were presented with these commemorative ties. This one came from Bob Moose’s estate. The only other one I have seen is on display at PNC.

Circa 1924, only one I've ever seen other than Dr. Mark Cooper's. Sorry for the grainy pic, it is SPECTACULAR in hand!!!
|
Fantastic pick-up, Greg -- where'd you find it?
More pictures, pleeeeeease... |
I'll post some hi-res pictures over the weekend. It is a gorgeous piece.
|
I know Dr. Mark Cooper sold many games a few years ago I believe through Heritage but does anyone know if he still collects and has that great collection?

Thanks Greg, wonderful piece! I wonder who came away with his copy of Cliff Van Beek's The National Pastime, the forerunner to APBA?
I lost a bidding war to Mark for that copy about 7-8 years ago. |
...
|
Greg, actually the most and best of Mark's collection was auctioned at Heritage just this (2013) spring and summer,
with many more highlights of his collection having been available in the Heritage auction of the week just past: http://sports.ha.com/c/item.zx?saleNo=7085&lotNo=82006 (lots 82006 through 82042). Mike, if you're referring to the sample of National Pastime that sold on eBay in May 2005, Mark wasn't the winner on that one. We know who was, but it's not up to us to say who (sure as heck wasn't us!). |
Quote:
If you EVER know of anyone that wants to part with a Zimmer game (you know, the high end one :D) please keep me in mind!!! I am a serious buyer. Greg |
Butch in around 2005 there was a rough but complete National Pastime that was listed on eBay.
My final bid was $545.00 which seems silly now but it was all I had, I was sniped in the end. I contacted the winner who was in fact Mark Cooper. The game parts were very rough but the cards appeared to be pretty nice. I printed and saved all the photos from the auction. This was before the reprints were issued. By the way the latest issue of Memories & Dreams, the bi-monthly magazine of the Baseball Hall of Fame has a photo of a complete game including the AL & NL card boxes. |

SUPER pennant Greg:D That has always been one of my favs.
|
Hi Mike, thanks for the info on that now-ancient auction of National Pastime. It's weird that we (at that time obsessively tracking eBay auctions of
tabletop baseball) and the entire membership of our games forum completely missed that one, since the eBay auction in May of that same year for a complete example of National Pastime in outstanding condition was the subject of much discussion in our forum. Do you recall the final price on the example on which you bid and Mark won? |

Butch I went to my files and found the pages I copies for the National Pastime auction that both went off in May 13,2003.
The game was listed by scatmansworld showing a Seattle-Tacoma location. My final bid was $507.77 and it was won with a $517.77 winning bid. There was also a copy of the game in what would appear to be wonderful condition that went off January 8, 2003 by heartofohioauctions. I did copy all the game part photos from eBay but did not copy a final bid page. If others have appeared on eBay I have just missed them. I usually search APBA but no other games. |
Got these two items today. The last Nebraska Indians card that I need (of the ones I know exist), The Sam Miley card is 4.25" x 5" and before today I did not know it existed...a customer of mine walked into my store today with these and sold them to me.

Mike, thanks again for the additional details on the National Pastime auctions.

Picked this up a few days ago. Most likely it is a 1918 piece since that is the year Chase and Archer were on the Reds together and the company is from Cincy as well:

Vandy pickups
3 Attachment(s)
Here are two original Johnny Vander Meer photos that I just picked up related to the game played on June 19, 1938 At Boston.
The significance of this game is that it immediately followed Vandy's record setting back-to-back no-hitters. The cool panoramic shot is from the 9th inning. In the 4th inning, light-hitting Debs Garms lined a single to end Vander Meer's consecutive no-hit innings streak at 21 2/3 innings. Vander Meer and the Reds did go on to win this game 14-1, with Vandy allowing only 4 hits. Recently I also found an interesting streetcar pass to Vander Meer's 1st career save on Sept. 29, 1940. The pass exhibits neat graphics and color, which I found unusual for the 1940's, FWIW. |
Scott,
I've never seen an original of the panoramic shot - congrats on landing one!!! Your Vandy collection continues to rule the roost. Graig |

Hi-
I picked up all of the items posted below at the Wilmington MA show a few weekends ago. The Dewitt's guide is rough, but the price was right at 50.00 for something so historic. The check is cool, as the person who signed it was one of the players referenced in the Mills commission report as playing in the "first" game in 1839 at Phinney's farm. This check is signed by Elihu Phinney, the son of the farm's owner at the time. The stereo view is labeled residence George S Mitchell Magnolia Mass. On the back is the name Chelsea Wattago? as well as the year 1879. Magnolia is part of Gloucester on the north shore of the state. There appears to be three people holding bats (they are also wearing uniforms but I cannot tell much about them). I also got a cool scored program from an 1889 game between Lowell and New Haven (Atlantic Association). It was a good show for nicely priced, oddball 19th century items in my opinion! Alan |
Great stuff Alan!

clarkson cigar box

Picked this up today. I would say very scarce. Cant seem to locate another. I collect baseball cigar boxes and I'm thrilled with this one.it appears clarkson ran his own cigar shop at the turn of the century in michigan. |
That box is AWESOME Kevin. Congrats:)

Thx scott. Dont think another exists.

Just got these two items so I can mat them together. Who can forget the great Jose Canseco mis-playing a fly ball into a homerun off his head? I found a full unused ticket from the game and then found this great signed photo of the event. I have searched for the ticket for a while now so I was excited to find one.
