Just to show I'm a sport about modern game-used.

Finally have all the photos for this ball display. The ball is photo-matched against all the pics except the punt and Seattle field goal, but because it's matched against kicking plays before and after these, it's the same ball. It was only used for kicking plays, but apparently was used for ALL kicking plays, at least well into the second half of the game. Unfortunately, I just got word from the photographer that I can't get a large print of the centerpiece photo (shown just above ball). I have a smaller one that will have to do.

Bryce Harper hit ball from today and it's his second of the season.

Hi Yes , its a 5 cent machine. You put money in a slot on the side and shoot it with the lever. The nickel than works its way down. If you are lucky it will go into the hits. Its amazing what we thought was hight tech. LOL

There are some real jewels at those stadium shops - last September I bought the ball James Paxton used to strike out Chris Young in Paxton's ML debut, for $45. Apparently he threw it in the dirt and Young went for it, so it got tossed over to the ball-handler-tagger lady.

Yeah. Every hit I was watching to see if they gave the ball to the mlb hologram guy. Because pretty much you can get any ball that is hologram the next inning. So after Harper got the hit, I went to the shop and asked for it.

That is a really great idea - I'll make a point of keeping my eyes open for special balls next time I go to a game.

Scott, I don't think they pay very close attention to the pieces they sell at Safeco. A couple of years ago I found this Mariners dugout line-up card in the clearance sale stack for a paltry amount. When I got home I looked up the game and found that it was from K-Rod's MLB record setting 62nd save. I will readily admit I had no idea that it was from that game prior to purchasing it. However you would think they would have looked it up prior to discounting it

Here are a couple of recent odd ball pick ups for my 1971 Pirates collection. The first is a line-up card and program from a three game pre-season series the Bucs played in Panama. I am currently kicking myself for missing the ticket stub that was listed with these. I cant imagine I will ever see another example.

Went to a minor league game last night and got this bat that big money Rockies prospect David Dahl broke in the first game of a doubleheader. I have both ends of the bat but it is missing a chunk around the handle. I'll probably get it signed at a later game.

Excited to get this. Carbon triplicate copy of Christy Mathewson Military ration voucher. This copy I guess went to the officer, in this case, CAPTAIN MATHEWSON

Hoping to mat it w a reprint, cant afford real one, Matty military photo, or w/e. just think its cool;)

My Ruth
 

This is my Ruth that I had posted a few months back in the prewar section and forgot to put up here. This is my center piece to my collection. :) It's a postcard of the Babe with Ruppert on the day of his signing in 1933. Thought you guys might enjoy it.

Here is a newspaper clip from that day as well. I know mine version of his signature is not worth $52K but maybe someday I hope! HA!

No I would like to pick up a Cobb Auto, Gehrig, Wagner etc.. I just got lucky and found my white whale so to speak as my first one.

What I love about the Ruth though is you never seem him sign his first name along with his nickname. That is what really drew me to the card.

I just picked up this great first generation photo of "Bobo" Holloman following his no-hitter on 5/6/53.

Holloman's background story was an interesting one. In 1953, the 27-year- old rookie, made the show with the St. Louis Browns, but was not getting much of an opportunity to pitch on the big club. Bobo Holloman was never short of confidence. In fact, he was his own #1 fan.

Up to this point in the 1953 season he was relegated to only eating up meaningless innings. The entire season he kept asking Brownies Mgr. Marty Marion to give him one start so that he could show him what he really could do.

Bobo finally got his chance on May 6th, 1953. In his first ML start, Holloman no-hit the light hitting Philadelphia A's 6-0 in front of only 2473 fans at home in St. Louis.

Holloman never recaptured the magic of his no-hitter game. In fact, he was back in the minors less than 3 months later, never to return again...

For some reason this was one of those items that has eluded me for years. I finally picked up this one to complete my collection of all eight of the 1937 and 1938 Dixie Lid Premiums. I think they are one of the most attractive issues of the 1930s.

After seeing all of the cool snapshots of hall of famers I decided to start looking for images of the 1971 Pirates in snapshots. These are the ones I have managed to pick up to date. The 1971 Pirate World Champs pin is new to me. It is the first time I have come across one like this. I am guessing it was a lapel or tie pin?

Here is a neat February, 1928 snapper that I just acquired of HOF Walter Johnson just as he was beginning his role as manager of the Newark Bears.

I'm always amazed at some of the terrific items offered for sale on net54.
Some of my favorite pieces in my collection originated in the BST. Thanks Jack!

My Giancarlo Stanton collection is getting bigger and bigger by the week. Here are 3 from this year that just came today.

1) Cracked on 4/10/14 against Strasburg. Was a foul ball.

2) Cracked on 4/11/14 off AJ Burnett. Cracked on a single.

3) Cracked on 4/9/14 off of Jordan Zimmerman. Cracked on an RBI single.

really unusual item I have never seen one before

I actually did a random search a few weeks back and came across the one with the Beltre on a website. Shocked no one had bought it.

This vintage 1941 autographed and personalized 8X10 of Satchel Paige arrived today. I acquired it via a trade here on Net54. Thanks Derek. I have always wanted a vintage original Satchel Paige Monarchs photo or a vintage Paige autograph. I am thrilled to have completed both goals at once. The collecting community here is amazing. This will most certainly be my favorite acquisition in 2014 and is now the cornerstone of my vintage baseball photography collection.

All due respect, Nate (TRULY)....why do you collect what you collect? re-sale? Investment?

I have a couple hundred Giants gamers, but I'm a Giants collector. You seem to pick up a lot of "lesser name" GU stuff and I wonder why (not that Beltre or Stanton are scrubs). Truly....I respect your collection....just curious. :confused:

I don't mind you asking at all.-- Believe it or not, I mostly collect vintage bats. I buy very little modern stuff because it really doesnt interest me much. I've recently been able to buy Beltre and Stanton bats which is why you've seen a lot from them. They are two of my favorite active players. I live in TX and get to see Beltre play everyday and it's an absolute treat. Stanton is a little different because I think he has such upside and is still very young. I'm also from the KC area so I'm a sucker for 80's Royals jerseys.

I don't buy for resale, because I sell very little of my items to begin with. I just buy what I like to collect, just for the fun of it.

That is really cool Nate. If I ever had the chance I actually would like a Stanton bat, just for the hell of it. That kid can swing

Beltre has been a stud but I yearn for the days when players stayed put (ala my Giants Mays, McCovey, Marichal. Hell, even Bonds.....cuz nobody else wanted him!).

Thanks Scott, that HoJo snapshot is beautiful as well. Although I spend much of my limited collecting dollars on 1971 Pirate trinkets meaningful only to me the opportunity to obtain this photo was irresistible. I have always been fascinated by Paige. My father watched him pitch for the Tribe and a very , very progressive great aunt watched him pitch in the negro leagues. Their stories really sparked my interest in Paige at a very young age. I'm beyond pleased to hang Satchel next to my Roberto:)

Glad we could work out a deal!!! I'd post my pick-ups from our trade, but then everybody would just be jealous ;)

Added this piece to my Federal League collection this month...been wanting one for a while, and finally found one at the right price.

Picked up a Giancarlo bat this week. Shows tons of use and was most likely used to hit a monster 3 run homerun off Strasburg last week.

Picked up a nice single player cabinet photo of a Nebraska Indians player (circa 1905)...first single player cabinet I've ever seen from this team.

I've said it before I think, but I'll say it again. I've always wondered if the subjects in these photos had any idea that over 100 years later someone would have such great appreciation for their photograph? That people would still enjoy seeing the image and that it would even still exist after all this time.

Absolutely love the Frisch/Delancey photo Jeff. Always felt that Delancey would've been one of the all time great catchers had TB not taken his life at a young age.

Nolan Ryan's last career win dugout card 8/15/93 @ CLE
 

I recently picked up this home dugout card (1/1) from Nolan Ryan's last career win # 324.

On 8/15/93 Nolan Ryan faced off against starting pitcher Jose' Mesa and the hometown Cleveland Indians.

This lineup card is an awesome complimentary piece to a number of items from Nolan's last win that I own in my advanced Ryan collection.

I own Nolan's complete uniform from his last win as well as a game used ball and signed ultra-scarce Indians loge box ticket and scored program to this game.
