Ending Tonight!! (5/31/2014) Open For Bidding - Love of the Game Auctions
Hi Everyone:
Just a quick note to let you all know that the Love of the Game Spring, 2014 auction is live and open for bidding. The closing date is Saturday, May 31. This is the biggest and best LOTG auction yet. There are great cards and memorabilia items scattered throughout the auction, but some of the key items that might interest you: • The fastest baseballs ever thrown - record-breaking fastballs thrown in 1946 by Bob Feller and in 1974 by Nolan Ryan. In my opinion, even though the LOTG auctions lean heavily prewar, this is the coolest item I've ever offered. • 1914 Cracker Jack Christy Mathewson, SGC VG 40 • 1928 Ticket Stub from Ty Cobb's Final Game • Super scarce 1924-25 Aguilitas Segundas "Pop" Lloyd - SGC VG 40 • A fantastic group of 44 T206 Hall of Famers, all graded SGC VG 40 • A stunning JKA cabinet of Zach Wheat • A host of great tickets, season passes and memorabilia • More T206s than we've ever had before, including high-grade examples, HOFers, tough backs, print anomalies • Lots of Old Judges, tough postcards, cabinet photos, Ramlys, Colgan's Red Borders, E cards, and more • A nice run of complete sets and near sets from 1952 through 1962 • Tons of autographs, including plenty of prewar Hall of Famers Thanks, and good luck bidding! Al, Love of the Game Auctions |
Lot #79 currently has the wrong picture (Gilmore instead of Long) and lot #320 is a 1915 CJ, not 1914, of Austin.
I've placed around 30 bids so far, very nice auction! Rob :) |
Wow, some great items here. Nice auction.
|
You have some great stuff in there. Look forward to bidding.
|
Al's description of Lot #1 has to be one of the best I have ever seen lending credence to the provenance of the balls and providing the technical education as well, with references. Using the current speed gun and seeing Nolan Ryan hit 108 mph in the 8th inning must have been awesome (except for the batter).
I stopped reading to write this note. Now I am ready to move on to Lot #2. |
woo-hoo
very excited to see this today as both a bidder and consignor! Bid early and often everyone!
|
Bidding is off and running. Another fabulous auction Al.
|
Always a top notch auction Al, best of luck. I already threw in some bids.
|
Thanks for putting together another great auction!

The correct term is total war. Bidding on more than 20 lots is carpet bombing, and placing a top all bids on more than ten lots is fire bombing.
Yes, I just made up all these terms. But now that they're written down you have to use them. (c) 2014. All rights reserved. |
Bi-war, trans-war and questioning-war........education is the key!
Henry......love your avatar photo....that's when you worked at Fridays with all your flair.....right? Als descriptions are great. Hard to write something that's good that skirts the hounds of the puffery that we get so much of now...... |
Henry...you are the man! Thanks for throwing me a BONE! I can't wait to see it at your table at future nationals for multiples of the price!!!!!
|
Wow, another great auction, Al! Looking forward to bidding.

I rarely set up at the national

I've never been to Friday's but I have seen the festooned workers at the Hardrock sporting some. |
Fantastic auction!

Good luck to everyone going for anything this evening. It's a great looking auction with something for just about everyone!! http://loveofthegameauctions.com/catalog.aspx . |
You suck, Al.

Is it safe?

Almost into extended bidding. In on several items. Always find the next hour or two fun to participate in and watch the action. Don't have staying power to watch into the wee hours of the morning anymore (EDT)......
|
Jump in chat if you're waiting around for awhile
|
I hope this one closes before too late this time!
|
Still going.....reached the point of passing on a couple of items, but am still in on several......not likely getting any bargains but potentially acquiring some interesting items.
|
A few of us are in the Chatroom watching this one countdown tonight. Anyone interested in talking cards is welcome to join us
|
Let's just all put in max bids & get some sleep...
|
CJ 14 prices getting crazier by the day. Slim Sallee SGC 4.5 for $1700 plus juice? Joe Wood SGC 40 for $1200 plus? Also t206 HOFers at 5 or better likewise continuing hot...
|
Man, this thing's like the Energizer Bunny!
Steve |
let it roll!!!
|
I take it the auction has ended, as the website kicked me off and appears to have crashed for the last 10 minutes or so...
Cheers, Blair |

And, it's over!
Steve |
Boy, glad that I was outbid on the Pop Lloyd card that I wanted before extended bidding even started and was able to get some sleep. Nearly 5:00am for auction closing???
|
Love to see the why of the $200 Slim Sallee CJ SGC 55 card....a few others graded higher at both PSA and SGC etc....Foxx exhibit and Matty Pinkerton went beyond what previous sales would suggest (the Matty SGC 40 went for far more than a 50 recently went for). Also high prices, though not much to compare with, on only graded red Colgans for Evers and Tinker. I thought some of the SLs could have gone higher....
Meanwhile, over at ebay, probably noticing surge in CJ 14 prices, someone paid $350 for an SGC 40 common and $800 for an SGC 45 Bender....the SGC for CJ 14s seem to be finally (almost) catching up with the PSAs....maybe lot of new collectors, or afterglow of their decision to change flip.... Got outbid x4 on OJ cabinet common SGC 10 that went for ....$4250 plus juice... |
Nice job Al!

A crazy good auction!
|
Great auction Al. The best one yet!
|
Won below my max bid. Strictly an impulse buy. I was too lazy to research past prices so I just looked up SMR.:eek::eek:
Hub Perdue was a really interesting guy, and one year he won 16 games pitching for the Braves. Google him. :D:D:D http://photos.imageevent.com/rgold/ebay/image_18.jpg |

Won the 1930 & 31 Shibe Park World Series Employee Passes which I'm really happy about. Bid on the 1906 V. O. Hammon Chicago White Sox Team Postcard because i forgot that I got one off of here a few weeks ago when I bid but the price wasn't bad. Just realized the only things I've purchased in the past 6 months have been postcards and tickets so maybe my interests are changing. Anyway, great auction! My favorite.
