Nice opener, Brian

lot better shape than I'm used to seeing in that issue.

Jersey City Giants 08-01-2016 11:55 AM

Not in yet but I picked up 11 PSA 6s in Heritage, a PSA 6 on eBay last night and one PSA 5 on eBay the other night. All commons, all were new to the set except for last night which was an upgrade from a 4.5.

August pick-ups

I got this last month (or was it June?), but finally got around to scanning it!

1926 Kut-Outs Yankees - Earle Combs (the rare, severed neck version):

Also grabbed this nice-lookin' 1939 Kansas City Team Photo Premium w/ Rizzuto:

Sweet Bender! I've always wanted to do just an SGC 55 collection. They are always "nice for the grade"...regardless of issue. David G. is definitely one of the good guys in this hobby!

1933 Worch Cigar "Mule" Haas and parent photo

http://imagehost.vendio.com/a/204295...ORCHPHOTO_.JPG

...George "Mule" Haas , wearing a Philadelphia Athletics uniform in the American League Service Bureau 5x7 original newspaper sports dept. file photo . By the time Worch Cigar used the image for its 1933 send-in premiums he was playing for Chicago.
Got the card last month but the photo just arrived . It looks like they spelled his las name "Hass" on the Worch but it's spelled correctly on the back of the file photo.

1933 Worch Cigar Mel Harder and parent photo

..Had the Worch card for a while but just received the 5x7 photo from which it was made.

1934 Gold Medal Foods Irving "Jack" Burns (Wheaties Premium) & original photo

http://imagehost.vendio.com/a/204295...SPHOTO_NEW.JPG

...had the St. Louis Browns card for several years but the 5x7 parent photo just arrived . Thank you " Fedex" on E-Bay.....astounding stuff you have.

...the Gold Medal premium has five pin-holes and fifty years of cigarette smoke protecting its glossy finish but the American League Service Bureau photograph has only four pin-holes and a lot of editors' penciling .

..I've seen that picture used on another Jack Burns card too...one of those annoying little "W" cards.

The newspaper photo isn't in the best shape but love that it's from the 1948 leaf card and the pre photoshop editing.

but can't find a hammer at work to facilitate that process.

Number 292 comes from Pete Gustafson who has found quite a few over the years. Thanks, Pete.

I bought this today. I looked at a higher rated one and just liked this one better. Could not find a high rated one that was affordable. Honestly, the prices have literally tripled for the higher rated 1934s since last year's national. I don't know how r why, but they have. Anyway, I like this one and it goes with my other 1934 yellow one.

Oh, and I admit I suck with the scans etc. not my specialty. But I did buy a cad at the preview night.

As an aside, I heard a lot of gasps and talk about how crazy prices have gotten. I heard some Koufax talk, some Clemente talk and some Mantle talk. Lots of bewildered people there. Not sure what to make of it.

I just picked this up, I have not seen a Jordan with this dark sky on it before. It is dark ink printed on the card, not just dirt on the card. I was wondering if anyone else has seen this before, it is very different from the normal Jordan.

Jobu 08-04-2016 09:07 AM

Nice one Ed, I was watching that. I have been picking up some of the same type of "dark sky" cards when I see one that catches my eye:

Regarding the dark sky that's curious. I do wonder, how this is caused in the lithographic process. Is the sky the only thing that's ever dark when you see these cards (as opposed to say, a dark bottom of card)? Do they all come from the same factory? Ah tobacco cards are cool..

I was looking to add a Lindstrom to my HOF collection and ended up acquiring two. And then I can't resist an inexpensive Butterfinger premium when I see one come up on a eBay auction.

Hi Ed,

This isn't as dark as yours but I had (traded it to a friend) this Rokenfeld
with a darker sky that also has an odd pink triangle in the upper right corner.

Found this Lone Jack Tobacco Tin in an Antique Shop in South Jersey.

My guess is it's vintage is circa 1888.

I wish I had some Lone Jack BB cards to display with it......but, I do have several colorful Non-Sports cards to show.

..was able to track down the original photo , well-worn and poorly-treated , for the 1937-1939 Orcajo Photo Art Cincinnati Reds Billy Meyers Postcard....showing both variations here , the 'plain' regular issue and the "Val Decker Meats"-sponsored ; nine of them are known to have the Val Decker Packing Co. , I'm still looking though...

..it's becoming more and more difficult to explain why I buy certain items to wifey....she still likes looking at "the pretty ones" though....

...back of the photo is dated "March 14 , 1935".....then "Steve O'Neil ,Cleveland Baseball , Manager"

...used for the R314 Goudey Wide Pen Premiums ; 1935 or 1936 is the year for the Type 3 ( borderless) ; 1936 is considered the year of issue for the Type 2 ;

...I've found four photos corresponding to baseball cards I own so far in 2016....sometimes I go years without seeing even one. Astounding.

...just received the hand-lettered 1932 photo ( taken by 'Schoolboy' Rowe's 'roomate' at Spring training at Tiger Field in Lakeland , Florida ( they were still there as of this past Spring )----it's a very very young Eldon Auker who is with one hand holding his rat terrier puppy and with his other pulling close " His Luck-Charm Tom Mix "

...I collect just about anything that's thirties Tigers but this is the oddest item I've found so far...fountain pen was used for the printing on the front; on the reverse , written in cursive pencil is :
Big Six Auker
His dog & good

Tom Mix

Here is a slight upgrade courtesy of the Arizona Find (Steve Hart at Baseball Card Exchange). Hoping the new PSA8 will cross over (the PSA slab insert leaves a strange shine on the scan that I can't seem to avoid).
