I started my Venz collection with a lot of 33 beaters on eBay. Wish I could stumble on another deal like that.

Down to 9 for my 1961 Topps set...not as clean as a Mantle as I would have liked, but early in the auction I put $45 on it and got it for $41. For the $$ a good deal and will look good in the binder...

Got this high # same auction...

I put a placeholder bid on this at Heritage yesterday and then decided not to go after it. Much to my surprise, no one else bid after me, so I guess I went after it!

KCRfan1 11-08-2016 07:30 PM

Tom,

Since the wrapper says " card " instead of " cards ", does this mean that for 1 cent, you got 1 card?

autograf 11-09-2016 02:03 PM

my understanding is that you got 1 card for 1 cent and like 6 for 5 cents.

ALR-bishop 11-09-2016 02:16 PM

2 recent pick ups.

Found Ken Holcombe, which had a very small E-Bay picture, but the price was very cheap so I took a chance. Glad I did as the card, other than being OC, is in really nice shape! :)

And, really happy to say I now own a Bob Feller card!
I had tried and tried to obtain a Spahn, Ashburn and Feller (in my price/condition range) but all 3 were eluding me.

Found my Spahn and Ashburn for great prices, especially since they were already slabbed, then happened upon this Feller, and seen that it was actually on sale! :D
I didn't hesitate to purchase it and found out, since I thought I recognized the name, it belonged to Smanzari, who is a member on here!

Thanks again, Stefan!

Pretty stoked to own this card! :)

...Just received the solo portrait card of Mickey...difficult to find centered , as is every other damn Topps from the fifties...

..starting to like this set but there's too many to attempt a "complete"...

Nice 52s Irv ! Love the 59s Mike the trills subset is probably my favorite vintage subset.

ALR-bishop 11-10-2016 06:48 AM

Feller

Irv-- since you are into 52 variants some 52 collectors and variant lists include the Feller as having two versions, one with the slats highly visible, and one with them gone or virtually missing

Thanks Al.

I have heard/read about the Feller variants but never really looked into them before.
I assume one isn't more rare/worth more than the other, or is that maybe the reason why I was getting waaay outbid on some of his cards?

As you should be!!

Congrats! :)

Unfortunately, for me, it is highly unlikely I'll ever finish my set due to the amount of cards I need and the associated cost.

Also, I have likely purchased my last card for a while due to the CDN dollar being in the tank!
I won just one card the other night, a $8.49 win but getting that card here to my door is going to cost me $32.00 dollars and change!

I will still continue to look for deals, but having recently picked up some 52's that I have wanted for a while now, I think it's time to take a break for a bit, unfortunately. :(

...why so much for a ten-dollar card ?....Is it because of E-Bay and Paypal ? Can we help you here on the BST section of 54 at more reasonable costs. many of us '52 fans would be glad to help a fellow collector....is your wantlist of '52's visible anywhere ?

..

Thanks, Mike.

Currently the CDN dollar is below .74c but the exchange rate is even less than than that ($1.3475) so a $8.49 dollar card plus $15.00 U.S. shipping totalling $23.49 turns into $32.66 CDN pretty quickly!

Knowing and accepting that shipping was $15.00 dollars, I was really hoping to win more cards the other night to help offset that, but it just didn't happen. When I won the one card and was in the process of paying, I seen what I was about to pay and said to myself, this is getting out of hand!

At the time, I was unaware the CDN dollar had slipped even further the last couple days, (my fault, of course) so I was pretty shocked when I seen the total.

I appreciate your offer very much, but I really think, (unless you or others are willing to accept CDN dollars :D) that I wait until things improve up here before I purchase anymore cards.

Like I mentioned, I will still be looking/watching for deals but those are far and few between considering 99% of deals/purchases and shipping are in U.S. dollars, sadly. :(

Thanks again, I appreciate it!

Thanks, Mike. :)

I need over 200 cards so my list will be very big, but I'll get working on a list of the cards I desire the most.

Off the top of my head, aside from the high numbers I need, I can think of Billy Martin, Yogi Berra, Duke Snider, Andy Pafko, Phil Rizzuto, Al Rosen, Monty Basgall, Johnny Pesky, Luke Easter, Gil Hodges, Pete Reiser, Joe Page, Johnny Sain, Robin Roberts, Preacher Roe and Eddie Stanky, but that is just touching on it.

I have a busy day ahead of me today and tomorrow but I will try and get a more thorough list together.

Again, I appreciate your compliments and help.

Thank you!

Got around to replacing the Nolan Ryan rookie card....the tale of PSA and damage woe is posted elsewhere on the forum. Happy to have a proper Ryan/Koosman (as opposed to the MB one I previously had and the subject of the aforementioned adventure) and a pretty nice one to boot back in my post-war rookie collection.

Some great cards being posted. Love the 53 bowman Musial and Clyde I agree with you on the Tommy Byrne card.

Landed this 53 Mantle and will hope to upgrade some day but this one will have to work for now. I have seen much worse looking PSA 1's for this card.

Gorgeous cards across the board this month. Ted Williams, Berra, Mantle, those sharp leader cards that look mint. That 53 Mantle is fantastic. (I am doing a Mantle set of all beauties just like that one; so hard to find that type of card.) Same goes for that 52B Musial. And the wrappers are so cool. Makes me wanna get them all framed for a wall, would really pop to the eye. That Dark Cap Matty is a beauty. If it was the one on ebay recently I remember thinking how strong it was.

Hey, no, it wasn't damaged at the National. It was damaged at their home office. I dropped it off at a public day in NJ. If you want to read the whole story, I posted it on the main pre WWII board here under the title "My PSA Damage Tale" a few months back. They eventually made me whole but it took awhile.

Happy to win this one:

http://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/kekAAO...WP/s-l1600.jpg

These AO cards are really difficult to find without damage from the glue that held the packets together and without creasing from when the packets were opened. I missed an 8 Aaron a while ago and was very happy to find a 6 at a fraction of the 8 price.

After reading the research here I also decided to add this to my collection:

Al, thanks for the information on the variation. I actually do have that variation and thought it was a flaw. Love these boards. Always learning something new.
Here is the variation.

Variants

I think most would say it is just a print defect rather than a true variation ( inentional change in card), although it is virtually impossible to tell if any particular print flaw was intentionally addressed. But there is no doubt there are two "versions" of the card, and the fact it is Mays makes it more interesting...to me anyway:)

Rookiemonster 11-15-2016 08:25 AM

jb67 11-16-2016 02:58 PM

KendallCat,

The Brett rookie is no joke. Finding a 75 mini with that centering is not easy. The Jordan speaks for itself. Congrats on landing two great cards.

Exhibitman,

That Koufax strikes out 15 is an epic in action card. Love everything about the card. The crowd in background, full stride with ball almost ready for release makes you feel like you are watching the game. Some nice additions.

DeanH3,

I am with you with the nostalgia of those years. 1977-79 cards are fun to collect. I just started working on the on those 3 sets. Great looking Carter card.
