Does it really exist? Prove it!
The older I get, the more I start to wonder if certain cards REALLY exist. It's one thing to not find one or own one, but to never actually see a picture of one...now that's another story!
This thread is designed to provide hope. Post a request of what you'd like to see a picture of and maybe someone will find it for you. Good luck! |
I have never seen:
1968 Atlantic Oil Contest Card of Claude Osteen or Ron Fairly 1976 Hostess Ron Cey (reversed negative variation) |
Now had this thread popped up yesterday I'd have asked about the 1962 Sherriff Billy Pierce coin I've had on my wantlist for years and years and never seen.
But last night in another thread I was tipped that it was never issued. It's appeared on checklists at Trading Card Database and numerous other places but doing more digging last night I saw that those listings are incorrect. So a Net54 member has saved me more futile searching. ;) |

Anyone ever heard of a 1955 Topps stamps HOFer? I have seen posts about a Hank Aaron, but I haven't seen any proof for that. One day I'd like to try and put together a definitive checklist/gallery of the set.
Owen |
Have seen a scan of an Aaron. It was pretty beat up and the asking price was pretty high. I have one of the Stamps, unfortunately it is Mossi, ears and nose all over. There is a partial checklist in the SCD Standard Catalog. You might send a pm to Larry (sflayank) . I think he has some.
There is a earlier thread in here on this....somewhere |
Topps 1962 Stamp with Sievers as Athletic ?

I would love to confirm that a 1957 Jay Publishing of Billy Hoeft really exists, it is on my list. Have seen one on Dr. Google "purporting" to be Jay Publishing, it might be, but I have never seen one on Ebay or COMC. Don't even have any idea if it came in a photo pack, mail order, or what.

How many do you have Larry and which ones ( 55 Stamps) ?
And I remember when folks were saying the 68 Mays Plaq did not exist either....but then one showed up :) |
Thanks everyone for the info about the stamps. I'm glad to hear that there are some out there.

1978 Wiffle Ball bat/ball holder with Hrabosky and Bonds
I have been attempting to complete this set since it cam out and have never, ever even seen a picture of this one. I have been able to confirm all the rest of the 86 cards of the 88 listed. I can't even confirm 100% that these are the two players on it or that they are on a bat/ball holder. |
stamps
hi al

At least one stamp from each row and column is known so I think it highly likely all 40 were produced (U means unconfirmed) and possibly 50 if column 1 from the uncut sheet was also included. There is no correlation with the Sports Illustrated inserts either, which are much more random. The 4 stamp block is reproduced as well, it's intact on the schematic, so I think my theory is plausible. |
Great info Dave, thanks

I think you are right Shane. And also think Larry is right about the Sievers stamp.

How about the 1967 Topps Punchouts Bob Gibson? I have been under the impression for years that this card does NOT exist, even though it is listed in the SCD.
Edited to say that I found a thread that I started back in 2010 asking this question... Consensus says that it doesn't exist. |
Punch
Doesnt exist
|
Here are my two winners... (I wonder how many are actually out there, no more than a handful I'd guess)...
http://starsofthediamond.com/atlanticwinners.jpg Here is another winner but of a different Oil Companies contest, I can't recall ever seeing another panel with both halves of the Ruth... http://starsofthediamond.com/americanoilwinner.jpg |
That Ruth is bizarre. Unless it remained unopened until more recently, I can't imagine someone not immediately cashing that in for the prize. That's beyond cool.

This set is listed in the Standard Catalog of Baseball Cards. |

Holy smokes! I've been looking for this ever since the first time I saw it listed in the Standard Catalog. I know it's a proof but why is the photo reversed? Do you know how many exist? I haven't been this excited about Hostess cards since I was collecting them as a kid in the late 1970's while eating Twinkies.:D

The 1979 Hostess unissued Alan Trammell card is a reversed photo, which is pretty cool. ETA: two minutes late as usual.
|
For me there are two Mays items that I've never seen. They also happen to be two of two of the remaining five that I need to complete the master set:

I have always found Bob helpful, except in those instances when he wasn't

1958-1961 JAY PUBLISHING PHOTOS-TYPE 1 WILLIE MAYS PORTRAIT-POSE TO NECK: Guy in 1st RICKKENDALL1 has a PSA 4.5 (Highest Graded) and has the email symbol next to his name. Send him a message
1968 AMERICAN OIL WILLIE MAYS LEFT SIDE-$10: These are super rare since the few they made were probably redeemed for the prize. Pop Report 2 PSA 2s, 1 PSA 5. |
Thanks John.
I've contacted Rick already. No response for my request to see a picture. And yeah, I'm aware of the pop report for the American Oil. I've never seen one, and have reached out to those on the registry that are supposed to have them and also received no response on that one too. So am hoping someone here might have an ungraded sample, or at least a picture of one. Quote:

2002 Topps Kanebo Pujols back exists

I am certain that the Japanese version was produced long after the base set was produced. The same goes for Chrome, Refractors, Opening Day, etc. If the regular card was ever corrected, surely at least ONE would surface.
|
We ran an article in Beckett while I was there back in the day and Clay at Topps confirmed those cards existed and we even had an image back then. The 2002 Topps Pujols with a Pujols back exists. May be hard to find, really hard to find, but they do exist.

Okay - lots showing up so, why not!
I have never seen a 1960 Bazooka complete box with Roberto Clemente. To make it a tad "easier" I have also never seen a 1960 Bazooka box with Mickey Mantle or one with Willie Mays
|
How about 1960 Spic and Span Crandall reversed direction? I haven’t found anyone who has one, and never have seen one for sale.
|
Would love to see a scan of a 1954 Esskay Jehosie Heard
|
I recently bought a sealed 2002 Topps Factory Set (blue box). Mail has delivered and it is waiting on me when I get home. I am going to open it to see if the Pujols has been corrected. Please stand by..........
|
Are you sure you want to break the seal on it Shane. Sort of like driving that new car off the lot.
|
Risk vs reward. I already have sealed 2002 set (not blue). I got it on ebay for $44 so I figured it can't hurt.
|
Good luck Shane, I've never seen one and I searched for many years.
|
Well.....we are no closer to solving the Pujols corrected back mystery.
First of all, no corrected Pujols. Polanco is on the back. Secondly.....as soon as I opened it up, I realized that even if the Pujols in this set HAD the corrected back, it still would not solve the mystery in my mind. The reason is because the "blue box" factory set is the "Home Team Advatage" (HTA) Set. I did not realize this until I started looking at the cards. In my opinion, this is a parallel set and not the true base set because it has the HTA gold stamp on each card. Interestingly enough, I actually do not have this team set. My team set collection is missing a good portion of parallel Topps and oddball Topps sets from 1999 to 2005. Rich, if you see this........this statement is not meant to confrontational at all. I know you said that you talked to a Topps representative. Is it possible that the representative was mistaken? Might he have been considering the Opening Day Set or the Chrome set to be the corrected version? My Chrome and Refractor versions DO have the corrected back. But I have never seen nor heard of a corrected back on a base card. |
If you break the set up, keep me in mind for the Dodgers team set please.

It is my opinion that the "corrected" version on the pop report is actually all of the ones graded before the discovery. I am fairly sure of this because I actually sent one in to PSA early on and it did not say "corrected" or "Polanco back". I think after the discovery was made, they transferred all of the data from the cards graded before the discovery to the "corrected" back. Just a theory, but I really think that is what happened. As for the 10% run.....you would certainly think that one would surface. |
I have asked both here and on CU for some time for anyone who has one to post it. So far no one has. It was included in the last SCD Standard Catalog that included post 1980 listings which makes me think Lemke thought he saw one, or was told about it

Are these the Willie Mays photos you were looking for ? I found these on the internet listed as :1955 Jay Publishing New York Giants, ( same photo) listed as 1956 New York Giants, and the 3rd photo listed as 1958 Jay Publishing All Stars( listed as Mays, but that is not Mays ( photo error). Hope this helps, not sure if the listings I found are correct, any opinions ? |

The 3rd photo is that of Bill White. One of the finest gentleman in Baseball.

Speaking of White and whether certain cards exist, there used to be a hobby rumor that a version of his 59 card, a proof maybe, exists without the traded line
