Virtual Set: T213-3 Factory 8 Overprints, a collective effort
1 Attachment(s)
Sean thought that the group could "fill up a thread" with T213-3 Overprints -- let's see how close we can get to a virtual, collective set!
Post your T213-3 Factory 8 Overprints, and I will update the checklist below as we check them off. I'll start with the WaJo. I just love threads like this, even though this thread makes me regret that in 25-30 years of collecting vintage type cards, I never picked up one of these T213-3 overprints. Sadly, it just never became a high enough priority. :(

Hey Pete, it's funny that Donlin doesn't have a team listed in the caption. Is he the only one without one?
I know that he had been retired for six or seven years. On his 1914 Type-2 card they wrote ".300 hitter for 7 years" instead of listing a team. Maybe in 1919 they decided that leaving it blank was better. Perhaps the fact that they included him at all so long after he retired is a testament to what a popular player he was back then. |
Hey Sean,
A number of retired players were included without team captions, including Chance, Crawford, Lajoie, and Wiltse. |

Trobba
This sounds like a thread for Trobba.....Steve here is a list of cards I no longer own and don't have scans for....
Bender--no trees Chase portrait Eddie Collins Jean Dubuc Evers Magee Speaker |
I can also confirm Gandil with overprint, but I can't find the image (Not my card)
|
Thanks, guys! In the interest of building a "virtual set" in the thread, I'll reserve checking off the cards when people post from their collection...I have scans of some (of cards that I don't own), but I figured it'd be fun if I don't jump ahead. :)
I'll be thoroughly impressed if we make it to 50% complete on this one. :) |

Fun thread, and it is quite ambitious to get half of the set on this thread. From my own research, I haven't seen (or heard of) that many. I can share my list when the experiment is over and see how we did....here is my first pass at posting some pics, more will follow later.
I know my "picture to post" strategy is quite average in terms of quality but I think you can see enough. |
|
Great cards, guys!
|
Awesome. Rob, I said it once and will say it again, you are a t213 stud

Rob, you have an amazing group of cards! You really need a scanner to do them justice! :D
|
I prefer the time tested strategy of:
nice cards + bad scans = minimized sale price |
Agreed
I can agree with that Rob....Jerry

SGC pop report
I count 17 SGC slabs that say "overprint" or "Factory 8". The SGC pop report shows 282 Type 3's graded, but only 1 card that says "Factory No 8 Overprint".
You would think that if it is listed on the slab it would show up in the pop report. |

Hey, a Chris Browne sighting! Nice to hear from you again Chris. It's nice to know that you still stop by the Board from time to time. I hope that you come back full-time some time soon. :)

I'm up to 20/70 on T213-3. I was up to about 15 when I sold them all about 20 years ago. I only have 1 dupe, a Hoblitzel I recently bought by accident...

Nice
Nice ones Robert...like that Doyle.....Jerry

T213-3 overprints
Thanks, Jerry, yeah I don't remember having any overprints in my first set run. These are hard to find. Cheers
|
There is a Miller Huggins in the Huggins and Scott auction tonight. I'm hoping that one of us got it. I can tell you that it wasn't me, though. :(
|
That one sure is a beauty too!
|
I forgot to update with the Doyle batting... We're now up to 30% complete!

Jennings
That is a cool Jennings, Ron...Jerry
|
Any more?
We seem to be stuck at 21 different. Does anyone have any that aren't listed?
Thanks, Rick |
I know of others but don't own them or have scans, so don't think those counted towards your list?
|
Der Commisar
Rob, if I remember correctly Steve only wanted scans from cards people owned:D...Jerry
|
Great cards
Great cards, guys. Thanks for sharing. I wish I had kept a few of these I had.
|
I was hoping that we could work on the virtual set as collective owners of the cards, but I'm not above changing the scope of the goals of this thread if it makes it more interesting for everyone. :)
|
Steve
That's the Christmas spirit Steve!!..Jerry
|
I have the Doolan Fielding T213-3 Overprint in an SGC 45 holder. I have not been as active here over the past few years so it may be difficult to send scans.

Hi Steve,
Thanks for pointing me to this thread so that I could contribute. Here is Bender (with foliage). |
Nice, thanks, Scott -- we're now a third of the way there!
|
Bump for attention.

Collins
I see that the Collins that is currently posted in the BST is not the same Collins that is listed in post 16 of this thread.

I think Hoblitzell might be the most common. There are a few in this thread and I think a few others out there.

I found this thread earlier and wanted to post an update. Rob was gracious enough to let me acquire the Hal Chase throwing from him over the weekend. Happy to add it to my Chase collection and happy to be a part of this exclusive owners club.https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...e6b5dcbeed.jpg

Nice Chase!!...Jerry

a very stupid question..... Are these overprints very rare?

I believe roughly half the type 3 set have no known examples...many of those remaining have only 1 known example.
The handful of those left have up to 3 or 4 known examples. So, quite rare. Rob |
Double Prints
Especially ones with double overprints...Jerry
