Ebay grandpa attic

I know alot of sellers on eBay sell cards that claim they received or had been found in grandpa attic and they are all reprints now but has anyone here actually bought any of these cards that turned out to be real? I bet early ebay this was possible and maybe once a year this really does happen but it would taken a keen eye and alot of time to find these hidden gems. So share your stories and if possible pictures.

I have told it many times but my best find ever started with a raw E90-2 Wagner on ebay. The guy had a -1 feedback (yes negative). He had his grandfather's originally collected collection. There were around 750? cards I bought from him. All new to the hobby and at least 1 uncategorized from a relatively popular, but obscure set, Texas Tommy's. It can happen but less so in current times. That episode was 17 years ago.

Here is a thread about it....post number 8

Yep..once on ebay about 7-8 years ago... I bought some exhibit cards... the seller said he had some more....it was his "Grandpa's" collection...ended up with about 50 more of them most 23-24 series including HOF's for a good price...

Once. Cleaned out a collection of 1925 Exhibit Champions.

My only find like this is a 1910-11 Philadelphia athletics cabinet photo with the president throwing out the pitch in the center and comes with a letter from the baseball hall of fame.

Over the years nothing from the attic, but from ebay I have purchased, on two separate occasions, vintage cards that were found while house remodeling (E253 Oxford of Bancroft and 1921 Exhibits of Cobb and Carl Mays), as well as a 1926 Spalding of Bancroft found inside an old book (evidently Dave liked to squirrel himself away), and a complete deck of Lajoie Game cards that the seller rescued from the dumpster. Most of these cards were in fairly low condition, especially the ones that were in the walls for decades.

The Lajoie playing card set reminds me of a card show I was at in Columbus and a gentleman brought in a deck of those and a dealer bought everyone i believe

Not WW2 or older, but I once found a Willie Mays 1951 bowman rookie labeled as a reprint in a collection of Yankee batting score cards (yes weird to be in that collection) and I won it for $30. I received the Willie Mays and it graded with PSA. :D

Don’t keep us hanging.......is it real or a reprint?

strange listing

Not exactly the same thing, but I once won an ebay auction for around $15 that contained a stack of 13 red ink-stained '83 Topps cards, a mid-grade fleer Ripken RC, and 2 1927 W560 two-colors: Walter Johnson and Rogers Hornsby.

The title of the auction was the '83s and the Ripken. It made so little sense that I almost didn't bid. The 83s were gargbage. Even in good condition they wouldn't be worth putting in an auction, no one would buy these. Add the red ink staining... The Ripken was listed, but I don't think it was referenced as a RC, and maybe not even by year. The W560s were throw-ins. Weirdest auction I ever bid on / won.

Anyway, the W60s were real. I sold the Ripken for $8. And I think I kept a clean Willie McGee RC from the 83 stack, the rest went into the bin.

I remember that truckerboy find like yesteday!! Dealing with the owner was a little challenging too as I recall as he had a few loose screws. Great score Leon and you also had a nice Pinkerton Cabinet find too as I learned the bottom part of the photo shouod not be glued to the cabinet.

I bought from an old lady a rare SF Hess that she really had in her cabinet. Rare but it can happen.
