Completing a set

1 Attachment(s)
for those of us who never stopped being set collectors it's nice to actually complete one once in a while. So many can't really be completed, at least not by me. Found this guy on ebay the other day and it "makes me whole" in Metropolitan Studios Cardinals. (If the seller is on N54 and sees this, thanks a million!)

Now what do I do, sell them all?:p

Congratulations, Tim. I had to look this set up on the prewarcards site. Interesting checklist. Gabby Street must have been the manager...Rob

Tough job, managing

Yep, Gabby was the manager - won the pennant by 13 games, won the World Series, and then won a ticket to the unemployment line two years later.

Tim,

Congratulations and enjoy the sense of accomplishment! I would definitely rate them a HOLD but that's just me as a fellow set collector.

Thanks for sharing them with us.

Nice job and congrats Tim! I bet you are half way through the Ullman PC set to!

Congrats, Tim. I would hold them for as long as they interest me. It would be one thing if the "thrill of the chase" was gone, but we both know there are plenty of chases remaining. Plus, every time you look at them you can recall how much "fun" it was tracking them down.

Congrats Tim, it is a thrill to complete something! Glad you are doing well.

Congrats, and I agree with Todd on this one, especially on sets that proved extra challenging to complete.

Congrats Tim, a tough set that covers a great team from a time period for which there are few options.

Stampsfan 04-21-2020 10:07 PM

Congrats. As a set collector myself I know the challenges I also find weight closer to the end I get more and more picky. That results in too many incomplete projects.
Well done to finish it off. Enjoy.

Thanks everyone for your good wishes

Maybe we could keep the thread going and whenever anybody completes a set could add to it and tell us what they finished off!

nolemmings 04-22-2020 12:42 AM

Sounds good. Look for my contribution in oh, I'd say about 7 more years :)

Farm_kid 04-22-2020 07:10 AM

Nice job! Do you have your sights set on the next Set Challenge yet?

Vintagecatcher 04-22-2020 07:22 AM

Congrats Tim!

Congrats Tim.

I have had the Gabby Street from the set for over 20 years.

I'm not a set collector per say.

I have enough trouble completing runs with just the catchers in the sets. I have many sets where I need a single item to complete my catcher runs...1911 zeenuts, 1912 zeenuts, 1912 HRK, E125 diecuts, E102, PE2 etc.

Always fun to complete a set!

Congratulations on completing the set Tim. As far as keep or sell, that totally depends on the enjoyment you get from looking at the set from time to time.

Congratulations Tim! Always great to finish a set.

Heck, I will start off. It is actually from January of this year, but it has a nice story to it. At the end of last year I sent Patrick on the board here one of the three remaining W572 cards he needed to get him that much closer to completion. In return he sent me this 1935 Goudey of Traynor which finished off my collector condition set.

Good luck on the final two W572 Patrick, and one of the two is actually a card that after numerous years still has not been confirmed (Barbare). So if he scores the Duncan he can come on here and we can all agree it is a completed set.
