1965 topps push pull

Picked up a handful of these several years ago and they are pretty odd, to say the least. I was looking at eBay and one popped up, and it raised a few questions. First of all, what is the deal with the grade on this card? Did someone crack out a card and put this one in? SGC 6? Black borders and a card designed to be heavily handled make these pretty tough to find in decent shape, but...

But I guess my bigger question, with a set like this, is if you get a card graded, you are basically sealing off half of the card for all time, right? I mean with an issue like the '55 double headers when you can get it slabbed you at least could see both players. With this, poor Yogi is gone for good?

The grade does look generous. It’s a tough issue regarding condition though. It’s a shame you cannot grade the pieces separately.

If that's a 6 I would hate to see a 3 or a 4.

It is card number 6, so is it possible that somehow, in their computer system, the grade was transcribed wrongly due to that fact? Sort of like the ole switcheroo?
That's the only thing that comes close to making sense to me.

Here's the card in question (left) beside another SGC 6 I found on-line (right). No frickin' comparison...

I have no idea why they grade the shutters and not just the card. The shutters are interchangeable-it's like grading the piece of red cello or the black decoders Topps used to issue for cards with certain features.

I am wondering if they came in packs "assembled" or if you had to put them together. Agreed, Dave - anyone can switch the shutters pretty easily, and I would think the shutters contribute very little to the overall value. If issued unassembled, I would think they should grade that way. And if you graded a shutter and a card separately, you could line them up to see either image! Think I will have to dig mine out and take a look at them again. The Mantle/Berra in question also has pen ink and maybe marker markings on the back. Had to be a 1 mistakenly labeled a 6, maybe a transcription error as Elm posits?

Interestingly, I just saw this LBJ listed, and it looks really nice, but got an A grade I am assuming since no shutter was present.
