Hey Joe

My dad is in town from Florida and we will stop by Saturday. I guess you know JR will want to go to Hooters for lunch...:D

Chantilly

I am sure hoping to go. I was planning on going Friday because I like the laid-back vibe...but a darn business obligation got in my way (just kidding, in today's climate I am very happy to have a shot at a big new account, but wish it could have hit on a different day). Might run up Sunday. I would love to upgrade a couple of my Ashland Oil Marshall cards, but that is a tough one to come up with.

Chantilly Show

How many tables are at the show? What percentage of dealers are vintage? Is it worth a ten hour round trip? Thanks, in advance, for the info!
Jim

PSA Clemente

I am thinking of going but really my only reason is to pick up a PSA 5-6 Clemente--what are the chances there would be one at the show? Other than that, I will just be a spectator as prices will likely be around 110% of Beckett HBV :(

t213 10-26-2009 03:41 PM

There are typically about 18 good vintage tables at the show, and several more tables that have some vintage. It's the best vintage show in the DC area. In recent shows I've been able to pick up T209 B&Ws, E270s, T213-2s and T210s I needed, plus I've seen a good selection of E cards in the room.

Andy

jrog007 10-26-2009 03:45 PM

Thanks Andy!

How are the prices for e cards & t cards at this show recently?

TT40391 10-26-2009 04:07 PM

If there are T210-6's I may make the trip.

Have you seen T210 series 6 cards at the show? If you have I may make the trip because that is what I collect and I am usually restricited to fighting for anything that comes up on ebay. If anyone is setting up at the show that has any you can message me on the board or at wacturner@hotmail.com and I will definietly come to your table. Thanks

Tony

One of oue best!

We will be set up in our usual location! We find the Chantilly Show to be the best (South of Philly) to both buy and sell vintage. We will have a good selection of T205s, T206s (commons and HOFers) as well as other tobacco cards. Stop by and say hello. Larrie Dean

I've had some luck at Chantilly. Picked up a nice vintage Carl Hubbell a couple of shows ago...I always like digging through Chandy Greenholt's cacophany of paper stuff...picked up some 50's APBA cards that were interesting to me. And lest I forget...last show I was able to get a slabbed 1978 Dave Parker graded PSA 1...not many of those floating around. Dollar well spent.

kcohen 10-27-2009 09:05 AM

I'll be set up with a selection of pre-war cards. My table is more or less in the front center of the room. Hope to see some of you.

If dealing with Ken in person is even half as good as the transaction I had with him via the B/S/T, I highly recommend stopping by his table.

ValKehl 10-27-2009 10:48 AM

I picked up a N403 Yum Yum Tobacco card for my type collection at the March 2009 Chantilly Show. While the dealer tables are not teeming with vintage, scarce items of this magnitude, there is always some nice, vintage stuff available. I always attend because I live only a few miles from this show. And, the opportunity to B.S. in person with Joe "Potomac Yank" P. and hear his card-collecting "war stories" is worth the price of admission by itself! BTW, there is NO admission fee to this show on Friday.

Jewish-collector 10-27-2009 12:11 PM

I plan to attend the show on Friday. Always a pleasure seeing and/or meeting Net54 members. Just look for a short, puny looking slob searching thru the bargin bins. :D

I'm going to make it sometime this weekend, hopefully Friday though possibly Saturday.

All the way from PR .....

Folks, some of you have asked about:

How many tables?
How many vintage tables?
About prices at the show?
About a certain graded card?
About T210 - 6?

All good questions, and to some of them, there's no guarantee.
This might be an answer to some of the others.

I just received a message from Larrie Dean, that one of his customers might be coming back to the show from PR.
Folks, I'm not talking PR, like in Public Relations, I'm talking PR like in Puerto Rico.
I'm looking forward to meeting up with the collector from PR again.
Also, I may have some T210's for trade, four of which are are T210-6.
Always remember, whatever the grade, they fill an empty slot.

t213 10-27-2009 02:40 PM

I always love digging through Chandy's bargain boxes. I've found some great stuff in there.

For those that asked about tables, vintage etc,etc .....

Here's a list of the dealers ... you be the judge:

Enough tables for you? :)

For those interested in autographs, here's a list:

Anyone you're looking for?

See ya Friday - Saturday. :)

Zach - You found a ride ?

Jewish-collector 10-29-2009 06:37 PM

Zach - Email sent.

Folks, Not good for me, but good for you .....

As much as I wanted to see you guys on Friday, or Saturday ... an unexpected medical issue has popped up, therefore, I don't think I'll be making this one.
On the brighter side, let's look it this way.
One less competing collector.
So you guys fill me in on some of the goodies that I missed out on.

Get there early, hit those tables, and work it out with the dealers. :)

I saw those 1921 Baltimore cards, including Lefty Grove, at the show today at the Huggins & Scott table. Very cool stuff.

About the tables at the Chantilly show .....

Just heard from Larrie Dean, and Don Otto.

Not only were all the scheduled tables sold out ... they had to add more. :)

mintacular 10-31-2009 07:44 PM

Ken

I went to the show this weekend and really wasn't planning on buying pre-war. But I bumped into a real solid guy named Ken (I hope the same person on this board or else this post is a moot point). Anyway, I bought a couple T1909-1911 gold border Pirates cards at what I believe was a fair price. He also took the time to explain to me how to spot fakes, which I appreciated. In short, a real good guy who put up with me questions+ knocked a few bucks off the final price. Thanks Ken!

Sorry for the thread drift, but this is fascinating to me...what person took the time and money to send a poor condition '78 Dave Parker to PSA for grading .???

Potomac Yank 11-04-2009 05:43 PM

Folks ... This is what dreams are made of .....

This is what this thread is all about .....

Due to illness, I was not able to go to the show that I was telling you about.

Because of Larrie's kindness, I have now added an O'Rourke T217 Mono to my collection. ..... from another dealer at the Chantilly show.

If you check out the E92 Nadja thread, you'll see the Chantilly show mentioned favorally, with appreciations.

Folks, I wasn't kidding you guys. :)

mark evans 11-04-2009 05:51 PM

I hope you've recovered speedily, Joe.

Mark

ValKehl 11-05-2009 11:15 PM

Joe, I missed seeing you and chatting with you at the Chantilly Show - hope you are now recovered. I, too, picked up a T217 Mono (of Wm. Stein) and an E222 A.W.H. Caramel (of Smith) at the show (from the same dealer, I assume) for my type collection. Even after picking up a N403 Yum Yum Tobacco at this Show last March, I was very surprised to find such scarce cards this time.

Potomac Yank 11-06-2009 09:18 PM

First of all .....

I want to thank Mark, and Val for the kind words.
Val, it sounds like you did real well, I'm willing to bet that the newbies have no idea of the magnitude of your finds.
You make my answers to some of the questions sound meek.
If it were not for Larrie Dean's alert, I would not have added to my Mono set.
This would not be complete without the mention of Don Otto.
He's the one that challenges me to be around for another day. :)
I'm still taking my cuts at the plate, but I would have loved being at that show.

Any other finds at the show?
