NY Rangers puck collection
So I decided that I did not collect enough things and started a collection of NY Rangers signed pucks. I figured I would start with HOFers, members of the 1939-1940 team, and the 1993-1994 team. Some of the older players will likely be impossible on a puck or so ridiculously expensive as to make it cost prohibitive.
I think I am off to a credible start so far. Gadsby, Smith, Gilbert, Lafontaine https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4561/...3fb5e7b9_b.jpg Lundqvist, Worseley, Dionne, Bathgate Laprade, Giacomin, Leetch, Stanley, Park https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4559/...c23b8bfb_b.jpg Ratelle, LaFleur, Larmer, Anderson, Gartner, Kurri https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4543/...133a9e06_b.jpg Bower, Howell, Rayner, Bure, Francis, Hadfield, Beukeboom, Graves, Leswick, Marshall, St Louis, Messier https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4536/...ac0fe42c_b.jpg Nash, Tikkanen, Jagr, Larouche, Fleury, Shanahan, Sather, Gretzky, Nicholls, 2 extra Fleury pucks(That I got with the other and will be selling), Patrick https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4518/...29e0d5bc_b.jpg |
A credible start is an understatement. Ridiculous collection...You don't puck around...

Great group Mark!

As a Rangers fan since the mid 1960's, that is an awesome collection.
My Rod Gilbert signed puck. My favorite Ranger of all time. Number 2 is Nick Fotiu. Attachment 295930 |
Thanks guys.
I love Nick Fotiu as well.. Will add one of him sometime soon. Also loved Ed Johnstone. He took on Dave Hydra, one of the Flyer Bad Boys back in the late 70's - early 80's. |
My worst moment as a Rangers fan was watching Dale Rolfe get pummeled by Dave Shultz while his teammates did nothing.
It was embarrassing to watch. If Nicky was on that team it would have been a lot different. Shultz once said that Nicky is the one guy he never wanted to fight. |
Nicky was a tough guy. Just had that I don't give a crap way about himself, like he would take anything you could dish out and still keep coming.
|
on the good side, one of my most favorite moments was watching Terry O' Reilly and the Bruins go into the stands and fight with the fans

I was watching that as it happened on tv. WOR channel 9 in NY. Was pretty incredible to see as it occured

What a puck collection!
To see the Gumper and Eddie G brings back a lot of memories. The Rangers brought in a tough guy named Bert Wilson to deal with Shero's street gang. Somewhere on youtube there is a clip of him knocking one of the Flyer apes out cold with Bill Chadwick roaring about what a going over he'd given him. Was also watching the night O'Reilly went into the stands. Made a lifelong hockey fan out of my girlfriend's 10 year old brother who couldn't believe what he was seeing. I always thought marauding through the stands like that and taking on all comers was a real good way to get a hole put in you. Carol Vadnais: While he was in Boston Bill Chadwick used to say -"you don't have to take the puck from Vadnais, he'll give it to you." Think that was one of those trades that took the fans of both cities a long time to warm up to. Again, a great collection!! |

The Rangers never won the Cup during those years, but the hockey was great. And Bill Chadwick was a great announcer. |
Bill Chadwick and Jim Gordon were a great pair. Closely followed by Sam Rosen and John Davidson.
Not sure what was worse, seeing Ratelle in a Bruin uniform or seeing Giacomin in a Red Wing one. I think it's awesome that the Garden faithful still do the Potvin Sucks whistle chant even though probably a lot of them don't know it originated in 1979 when Denis Potvin hit Ulf Nilsson with a cheap shot in the Semi Finals that cost us any chance of beating Montreal in the Finals. I still hate that guy today. Sent from my SM-G955U using Tapatalk |
I also have to get a Barry Beck puck. Maybe I can get one signed "Shoot the puck Barry"

When he came to the Rangers he stopped hitting. |
Hey Mark,
all you're missing is arguably the Rangers' most interesting personality and the man most responsible for artistic mask design... Gilles Gratton. Oh, and Lester Patrick of course... which should be easy. :D If you'd like a Gratton puck, PM me, he's a good friend, and it's perfect timing as his book is now out with a signed copy also not a problem.... That is really cool. He is definitely on the list of one I will get. I will pm you shortly. Of the HOFers, hardest ones will be the Bently's, Boucher, Hextall, Harvey, Horton, and Patrick I think, especially on pucks. They are all available on flat items, just somewhat expensive for some. |
Great start, Mark! Nice also that they're on a bit of a hot streak now after the slow start.
|
I added a few more.
Art Coulter, John Davidson, Phil Esposito, Mike Richter, and a different Harry Howell. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...f502ed9557.jpg Sent from my SM-G955U using Tapatalk |
Added 2 more today and have at least one more on the way.
Sam Rosen and Sal "Red Light" Messina. Bith are in the HoF as announcers. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...798964a69d.jpg Sent from my SM-G955U using Tapatalk |
Awesome!

Rangers pucks
How can you not have Ratelle, Gilbert and Hatfield puck all next to each other???
Seriously, an awesome collection. I covered pro hockey for a while and the short stint of Ron Dugauy as coach. You have to have Mr. Style in the collection. |
Nice to see a) that wonderful collection and b) other NYR fans here. A week from tomorrow I’ll be in the Garden for just my second home game since 1970. I can’t wait!

Good ole days. |
Don't worry Chuck, they will be when they are hanging on the wall. Photos are just to post here. No way I would separate them.
I am def going to add Duguay at some point. I am going to expand my Rangers collection to include the 1978-1979 team as well. They lost to the Canadiens in the finals. It was one of the most exciting and improbable playoff runs that I experienced. They beat the Simmer/Taylor/Dionne powered Kings, in the Yellow shirts with Crowns. They then proceeded to beat the Flyers and Islanders before losing in the Finals to Montreal. Edit: Corrected the year |
Somehow you will need to find a John Amirante! Best singer of the national anthem bar none...

Rangers won the first game convincingly too. Love the hockey talk here, and the signed pucks. Very cool. A good trip down memory lane. |

You are correct about the Year. Not sure how I got that wrong, but thanks for the correction. Regardless of the year, it was a great run. I can still see that Potvin cheap shot on Nilsson. Every Rangers fan I know still thinks his injury cost us the cup. "Potvin Sucks" |

....so at what point did you get run out of town? :p |

I grew up in the east end of Montreal, as an English guy. It was a tough area. I was about a 20 minute walk to the Olympic Stadium, and eventually many people in the city wouldn't go to the stadium for a number of reasons, one being it was stuck so far in the East End of the city. As kids, many of us English kids cheered for teams other than the Canadiens, and many English did cheer for them. I grew up in the Bobby Orr era, and I knew a lot of Boston fans at that time. The English / French dynamic of that city and province are difficult to explain if you've not lived in "deux solitudes". Safe to say, I was a huge Expos and Alouettes fan, just not so much a Canadiens fan. |

So I ask him "When you're done playing in the NHL, are you gonna play afterwards?" He looks at me and said "When I'm done in the NHL, I'm throwing my equipment over a cliff." He then goes on to tell me how tired he is of all aspects of hockey and the NHL. I've often thought about that exchange that was over 25 years ago. I imagine he never did put his pads on again once he was done. And now me, I'm pushing 60 and still playing semi-competitive against 30-40 year olds. I love going out for 50 or more every winter with the guys, breaking a good sweat, and having a beer afterwards. I cannot imagine not having that out from life. |
It's been a while since I added to this thread, but just got a favorite of mine. The Big Whistle. Now if I could only find a Jim Gordon

Boom Boom. Getting close to a complete Ranger HOF run on pucks(not including the real old players like the Patricks, Bentleys, etc)https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...3bbe3bfc19.jpg Sent from my SM-G975U using Tapatalk |
So i am missing these
Howie Morenz Lester Patrick Bill Cook Frank Boucher Ching Johnson John Kilpatrick Babe Sibert Earl Seibert Doug Bentley Babe Pratt Neil Colville Bryan Hextall Terry Sawchuk Doug Harvey William Jennings Tim Horton Jacques Plante Lynn Patrick Harry Lumley Buddy O'Connor Bud Poile Fred 'Bun' Cook Craig Patrick Roger Neilson Herb Brooks John Haligan Fred Shero Eric Lindros Valclav Nedomasky Sergei Zubov Also plan to add a Marv Albert as well. Of those, i probably have a reasonable shot at about 10 of them on a puck. I have many of the others on flats, but still have some to go. Not sure ill ever get a Morenz. I figured out a way to out them up on the wall.
I took some 1 1/4in angle iron, with holes, and cut it into lengths. I painted them blue and hung them using the holes. The puck cubes fit perfectly and it allows me to take them down as i want. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...5c2f713b97.jpg https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...a55a796457.jpg https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...0108dbfef1.jpg https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...b635d53122.jpg Sent from my SM-G975U using Tapatalk |
If you lived in the Los Angeles area they would have all crashed to the ground a week or so ago at about 4:30 in the morning...

I created a mini frame for my Wayne Gretzky puck out of a hockey stick. Git the stick off ebay for $20.
I also added a Harry Lumley puck. This HOFer has a interesting Ranger connection. When he was 18, the Rangers had injuries to their goalies, so the Leafs "lent" him to tge Rangers for one game. It happened to be his NHL debut game. After the single game he returned to tge Leafs to complete his storied career. Couldn't find one of him one Ranger puck though. This will do for now. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...1ebf0e202b.jpg https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...e527505cd7.jpg Sent from my SM-G975U using Tapatalk |
