Beckett photo authentication

Just looking for some help

I have seen vintage type 1 photos at more and more dealer stands recently.

I really like some of these images and was looking into maybe picking up a few but I wasnt sure about those that are encapsulated by Beckett.

I am not questioning authenticity as I know beckett is very reputable - I was just wondering how the value is affected on a photo authenticated by beckett as opposed to one that is authenticated by PSA

I know that PSA is the authenticator of choice but I was also told they no longer encapsulate the photos and I think they display very well in the BVG holder

Any help would be appreciated

Thanks

To be honest ive seen alot of beckett authenticated photos that are labeled as type 1's but arent. Many are type 3's and are very obvious to point out. I dont think they fully understand what to look for or how to properly identify the characteristics of each type. Dont get me wrong they're not all bad but i personally wouldnt send any photos to them to authenticate. There's no argument that Henry Yee is the best in the business and youd be hard pressed to find anyone more knowledgeable than him

The holders beckett use are ridiculously bulky imo

What he said. I'm not sure why Beckett saw the need to jump into photo authentication without (apparently) proper training or knowledgeable staff. If you ask me, the obvious mistakes that were (are?) being made did nothing but tarnish their "brand" with respect to grading/authenticity.

I do not think their encapsulation would add any value for an experienced photo collector, though they might get a slight bump from a newbie/crossover card collector who recognizes the name from card grading. If you're the newbie, I think you'd be better served spending a little time learning the basics rather than putting blind faith in whoever they have authenticating photos.

P.S. I say all that having never submitted a photo for authentication. I have had photos encapsulated by both PSA and Beckett though, and found the Beckett photos a tough sell largely because of the inflated shipping cost required to mail those giant slabs :(
